As we all know with Bachmann, a loan to a Scottish team means absolutely nothing in terms of ability. Hopefully we can get him back in Jan and get him a loan to a smaller Prem team or Barcelona.
Only 1 goal (from a set-piece) and 1 assist from 900 minutes in the SPL so far is pretty disappointing though.
He's only started 3 games (and come off the bench for 4 games) so far. Ross County have often played a 3 at the back which doesn't really suit him that well and so he's often on the bench for those games. They seem to change system quite frequently mid-game back to a 4 at the back and then bring him off the bench when they do so. Although for the last 4 games (with Hungbo starting in 3 of those) they've started with a 4 at the back so think they might've settled upon a system which will get him more game-time.
Was always a stupid looking loan. Surely a club in League 1 would have taken him ? Playing here is the equivalent to playing for a non league club vs Man Utd one week and then vs Borehamwood the next.
F*ck sake. We’ll get him back next summer and Hungbo will be terrified to even leave his own 6yd box - apparently.
A scout I know was at the Ross County game last night and had the following to say about Hungbo: "One of the best on the park mate, good intensity and very effective in tight spaces, spins well and he’s small but robust, looks like if you can get him in space he is dangerous" "So he definitely faded in this one mate, I’d say he needs to go to a heavy transitional team, someone that’s gonna look to let him cheat and be the out ball rather than constantly tracking back I’d say now he’s top end L1 and maybe bottom end champ with a chance to get better"
I always thought he'd do well at somewhere like Wycombe to replace Onyedinma. Type of manager he would thrive under.
Seems very keen to comeback and make an impression. Wonder if he will be allowed to ? https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/20170250.joseph-hungbo-wants-make-impact-watford/
Well Edwards doesn't usually play with wingers so i'd be surprised if he does make an impression (unless he's converted to wing-back)!
Well he was given a gilt-edged chance to get out there and impress yesterday but instead absolutely stunk out the place. It's not like he was asked to play an unfamiliar position either but he simply didn't look Championship level. Couldn't get the beating of his opponent, poor passing, too many times running the ball straight out. The ignominy of being subbed off as a sub was deserved based on that showing.
Can't find where I said it, but his data wasn't amazing last year in the SPL, but people just saw the goals scored (mostly from penalties or FKs) and had assumed he'd had a good season and was ready for a starting spot in the Championship, whereas the reality was that his data showed he was pretty much an average winger in the SPL - which is League 1 quality at best. His radar from last season at Ross County below..
He's also not our academy prospect lol, came to us as a 18/19 year old Palace reject who had already had an underwhelming loan spell in the Conference
He lasted longer than the Hull player who came on just before him. Difficult to judge any of the fringe players in such a poor game.
Disagree. He had a massive opportunity to show what he's about and did absolutely nothing. Where as TDB used his opportunity to impress with a decent showing.
Hmmm. For me in some ways those are the best games to judge fringe players on. It's easy to look good on a sunny day when the team's winning and crowd's buzzing and everything's all rosy. The real measure of a player is usually better seen on days like yesterday. We needed a difference-maker and he convinced no one (including presumably his manager) that he was it.
Yeah, although a stint with our U23s has led to some calling for him to have more minutes as he is 'one of our own'. I'd be surprised if he has a L1 career.
Now I have thawed out and the depression of sitting watching that terrible game has gone I was trying to be positive. You are probably right it was an opportunity wasted to show what he could do
Disappointing from Hungbo again today, he's really failed to impress in his last couple of appearances when we could have done with him stepping up. He looked more naive out there today than some of the debutants. I really wanted him to do well, he has the physical attributes but he's just not sharp enough upstairs. Like Pollock I think League One will probably be his ceiling.
Awful today and didn’t seem up for it. Watched him jog bag when we’re defending in the first half. Very half arsed performance
Yeah he needs to be told to find a new club this window. Zero point in keeping him around. Not good enough at this level. He’s about to turn 23, right now his level is definitely SPL, League 1. The fact that he was a passenger in today’s game showed every fan that he doesn’t have the mental desire to improve and progress. We already have enough passengers, we don’t need more. Get rid and hopefully that will give him the kick up the backside he needs if he still wants to be playing professional football in 4-5 years time. If not, he will drop down to National League and stay there. 10 years from now he will be one of those, “what ever happened to…?” A quick google search will show he retired at the age of 28 while playing for non league side Bromley.
Seems to me like he's put on a fair amount of timber after his injury at the end of the 2021 season. Zero pace and can barely get around the pitch. It's actually painful to watch him play
That's a great loan for him to be fair. Hasn't taken the chances given to him this season but if he can show he's capable at Championship level then he might have a future here. I won't hold my breath though.
