Didn't see what was happening but it looked like Kabasele was winding up the QPR fans only for him to go AWOL for their winner a few minutes later. Classic Kaba.
Cathcart has had a mistake in him this season, but I still think Kabasele was lucky to retain his place today, I don't know if we'll stick to a back 4, but if we do, I wonder if he keeps his place? His place in the team is probably a bit safer if we revert to a back 3
He was an uncapped member of their Euro 2016 squad just before he arrived here, earned his first cap soon after he arrived, earned his second and last cap a year later, was called up to the provisional Belgium squad for the 2018 World Cup and was an unused substitute on two more occasions the next season. Even that is hard to believe because apart from possibly the first few games of 18/19 when we were on fire, I don't remember him ever being particularly good for us! I guess even in their golden generation, Belgium have never had great strength in depth!
The problem with him has always been the same. He grew up as a striker, and got converted to centre back. He lacks positional awareness, and his only redeeming quality is that he will make the occasional flash sliding tackle. Should have been jettisoned years ago, but not to be
Funny comment on his post game interview on the clubs twitter. "should have asked him to give the interview lying down on the floor to give that authentic match feel" Hahaha!
He’s killing me. Always try and defend him for the overreaction that most have about him, however he hasn’t done himself any favours recently. The problem is the back up options are Ekong or Cathcart. So Cathcart is our only option.
Why is it that Troost-Ekong was ahead of Kabasele 2 seasons ago, but 2 years old, Kabasele (now 31, compared with Troost-Ekong who is still 28, ostensibly in his prime) is preferred? Troost-Ekong hardly put a foot wrong defensively, and it can't be their ability with the ball, as Kabasele also has two left feet
I know it's easy to big up the guy sitting on the bench, but I'd seriously consider playing Cathcart at RCB going forward, I don't think there's much difference defensively, but Cathcart is definitely better with the ball at his feet (not that he's great at it)
Aside from the obvious, I did also hear a few ironic cheers at Kabasele heading the ball out under seemingly little pressure, when I didn't hear that from the other two centre backs
The guy in the middle of the back three just has to head the ball away and keep it simple, he can't even do that. Sell him to some Belgian team before their window closes.
He did get a whack in the face to be fair but it did give me PTSD-style flashbacks to his Bournemouth lie-down
Leading by example again. No surprise that our most solid defensive period of the last few years was when Kabasele was injured.
This thread goes back five years and it’s full of mistakes he’s made. Why is he still here? How is this man captain of our club? Why did he get a contract extension???
Even the Blackpool fans saw how rubbish he was. https://avftt.co.uk/index.php?threads/christian-kabasele.36372/
His lack of attempt to stop the cross for their 2nd was basically confirming that he didn’t care. As appalling a lapse as I have seen for some time.
Hard to believe we once signed Ake, Holebas, Britos, Prodl and Nyom in one transfer window. Nothing but neglect for the back line since.
Completely unacceptable. Totally agree with not caring! I showed more heart playing Sunday league footy.
I haven't seen the game so can't comment but it is clear, especially given SB's comments that our players are living in the past and past performances. In any sport you're only as good as your last game. By my reckoning CK hasn't been fit or fit for purpose for a good few years. Lamentable that Bilic feels the necessity to pick him and scandalous that he is the best option as captain. The deafening sound is that of chickens coming home...
There was a time I respected and liked Kabasele - he is now one of the worst players in the history of the club.
The way he just let that man go for the cross for their second, man, he just doesnt give a **** anymore, doesnt care if he plays or not probably as he gets paid well either way.
