Six weeks before the GE in 1997, the Sun switched it's support from the Tories to Tony Blair's "New Labour". The Sun claims to support the party which best reflects the interests of it's core readership.

I know this publication is toxic to many (and I have never bought or read it), but given........
    • The Sun's opportunistic history
    • Labour's lead in the polls
    • Brexit is "done"
    • The Tories economic strategy of favouring the highest earners
is a switch to support Labour sometime over the next two years inconceivable?

The Sun only claims to support the best interest of its readership, but really it supports the best interests of its owners. That’s why it campaigns on idiotic patriotism and flag waving rather than higher wages or worker’s rights.

Some significant barriers this time in the shape of the nutters who obsess about ‘wokes’. The Sun and others have built up such hysteria over this politics how would they explain the change?

Darren Grimes finding out he's been sacked from GB News on Twitter, before deleting all his previous tweets is a delightful story for a Monday morning.

This week's 'Private Eye' had a bit in mentioning that the 'money' was moving out of GBN and evangelical Christians were moving in to replace it...

Sometimes the lack of any self-examination is excruciating. Those ‘city slickers’ have consistently financed the Conservative Party and have always had people in key positions. Kwarteng himself was a hedge fund analyst.

The headline here was ‘Now BBC Comic Mocks Liz Truss’

Surely they need a new one, like Now Everyone Mocks Liz Truss.

Newsnight last night took the welcome step of turning down the audio feed of that dreadful Polish MP Daniel Krzykrzywzki (or something) for persistently trying to answer another question to that which was asked. Bravo.

The number of famously leftie (!) media outlets that are pointing out the huge flaws in Liz Dross and Krazy Kwarteng's plans is interesting. The FT and Spectator are coruscating in their criticism and they are usually right-of-centre and pretty right, respectively.

Only The Sun could be said to be firmly onside, giving Truss a column to spell out her half-baked ideas, in which she explains there'll be a bonfire of red tape. Listed as one of the big wins is the idea of cutting childcare 'red tape', which basically means cutting regulations and increasing the number of children one childcare worker is responsible for. That, in turn, will no doubt enable them to reduce the childcare tax credits and other associated benefits. They're always, always forcing the public to take the risks for them.

The lack of any actual real ideas is really quite startling.

The Mail has found a few historic stories to plaster on its front pages this week. Two days on the Stephen Lawrence case (just watch Dacre's appearance in the very fine documentary a couple of years back to see the cynicism and hypocrisy oozing out of The Mail on that one); and yesterday on the search for one of the Moors Murderer victims. While both are undoubtedly important stories it's extraordinary that whenever there's a genuine reason to shine the spotlight as brightly as possible on the Government's actions the Mail finds a reason to look the other way.

The actual story behind this shows Fleet Street at its finest. The Daily Heil was originally reporting the 'investigation' of Stephen's murder with all the tact and sensitivity you would expect from such a fine exemplar of journalistic integrity in multicultural Britain. The editor was on TV pointing the waste of police resources that re-opening the case would cause (or something) which was (un)fortunately watched by Stephen's parents Stephen's mother turned to his father and asked "Is that the same 'nice' Mr Dacre who you did that plastering job for?"

Given a member of the last Labour government infamously left a note saying there's no money left, this lot could easily do something similar in 2024 but add 'no ideas' to 'no money'.

It's not that startling - they can't be desperately digging for dirt on shadow cabinet members and thinking up new ideas at the same time.......

Two things in play for the Fail. One, that the owner, editor and senior hacks have missed out on a nice tax windfall (they were ****-a-hoop when it was announced) and two, bring back Boris.

More left wing gammons who think some people all look the same...

Didn't know whether to wet my pants, or succumb to the indignant anger (usually employed by... a member on here in such circumstances) at the racism displayed by such a bigotry revealing mistake. Literally, "a black man in a suit at Conservative conference. It must be Kwasi!"

Not sure what they will be most surprised about. The realisation of their ignorantly casual racism, or the the realisation that there are at least two black elitist far right wing fascist men in the Conservative party.

The Daily Heil, showing that it's ahead of the pack for investigative journalism, is going to be in the dock for alleged breaches/invasions of privacy by installing listening devices in various 'persons of interest' vehicles/homes. The list of litigants is as expected: SEJ, Sadie Frost, Prince Harry etc. but one name stands out:

Now the inclusion of Baroness Lawrence's name raises the interesting question of when did these alleged events occur - specifically the 'bugging'? Before the Daily Hate launched its campaign for prosecution of Stephen's killers which is far more 'comfortable', as they were very vociferous in claiming it would be a waste of taxpayers' (sic) money or afterwards which raises the levels of s**thousery to insane levels.
