It was a genuine question. Just wondering whether James Garner's loan has put them off loaning to us.

I just don't get it, sure, we'd have to had to pay at least a portion of Laird's wages just for him to stay for a year, but I doubt Gaspar is on pennies here, and he's certainly not a long-term option. Think they were starstruck by a former Spain international and Europa League winning captain, even though he didn't play much last season and probably never was suitable to what Edwards wants us to do

I didn't take it any other way! I was then making the point that whatever the reasons, there seems to be little urgency in bringing in someone to fill an essential role.

Burnley have relatively new owners; I imagine they wacked a whole load of money in to make that happen.
Whereas, Watford clearly don't have much money in comparison. Why they don't is a separate question on its own, of course....

Gaspar is just classic Pozzo “we can so we should” behaviour. Same thing with Fletcher, they don’t think, is this player actually any good? Will he fit our manages system? The opportunity itself seems to be the only reason for the signing.

Well, I think there is a further shift in this trend: The problem with using football as a business is you have to make a profit. Man U with the Glazers is a case in point: Their players are mostly good, but not world class. Whereas we now have clubs bought for political/image-building reasons. Man City and Newcastle are clubs run for ego/sportswashing, almost without heed to the cost. Real Madrid and Barcelona (and PSG?) might well be considered to be the role-models. As Liverpool are showing, it is still not impossible to compete with them, but the signs are there and it is, anyway, a gradual process.

James Garner wasn't good enough, despite a load of hype from the Man U PR dept. Maybe the mistrust should go the other way.

I think QSF, Walt and Silva (to an extent) were backed. After that they pulled up the drawbridge and just chucked random players at managers. As time has gone by, the percentage of crap has increased.

I think Silva broken Gino's heart and he can't bring himself to stump us the cash anymore (also, we haven't got any).

Wasn’t Silva annoyed because we sold Amrabat without his permission? If it wasn’t him it was another player.

That might have irritated him, but I bet the final straw was Zeegelar showing up at the end of the window after he’d been begging for a LB.

A really good game? OK, there were a lot of goals but goals aren't everything. One-dimensional play by Watford with excruciating midfield play. I came home angry.

It’s hilarious to me that we all said we needed to replace Cathcart and Kabasele in that summer window - we bought in Molla Wague.

And we still have those other 2 as regulars.

The maddest thing is that the start of that window felt like a step in the right direction with Chalobah and Hughes coming in. Both were young English talent, with plenty of scope to develop and improve. Richarlison was an exciting addition, and Cleverley was a relatively proven performer. There was also Gray, which obviously didn’t work out, but I was happy at the time with us signing what should have been a either a proper alternative to Deeney, or proven goal scorer to complement him up top.

It’s a shame we weren’t able to get Ake that summer, as he’d have probably been perfect to provide cover on the left if needed, or start every week in the middle.

Like you say, here we are today with a couple of players Silva wanted upgrades for, still starting most weeks.

If Leventhal is to be believed we also turned our noses up at Maguire and Andrew Robertson around that time too.

We did go in properly for Robertson who, sanely, chose Liverpool. Maguire, I think, we didn't go for.

We are well run under Gino because we still have a football club...?

Sam and the WD18 lads are welcome to their view and I fully respect it, but I am sorry as I fully disagree here. Gino has not got the foggiest idea of how to run a football club. He was handed the keys to the porshe' but is still wating for his driving test. If we were well run, we would have a stable hungry and youthful squad, very little or no debt (it was more or less cleared when they bought us), no dodgy agents and full communication with the fans'. That is not really asking much for a club of our size. I understand no owner can ever turn us into Manchester City (thank god), but these last few years have been truly awful. Nothing is ever spoken by him or the other leaders of the club about where we are and where we are going. We may still be a football club at the moment, but we certainly do not operate like one anymore.

It's just a very poor argument that we're well run because of our sustainability (has he seen the accounts??) and the fact we still have a football club. It's a shambles on and off the pitch, hopefully the club sort it out but there's nothing wrong with admitting that it's a steaming pile of todd at the moment.

I see that Wendover bloke is fully behind the Pozzos still. Apologist No. 1.

Brighton are well run. Palarse seem to be doing the right things. Brentford different approach but seem to be well run. We’re falling behind these clubs where we once made it to be on par or slightly ahead.
Udinese seem to be well run now at least and have had a decent start to their season. Pozzo true love are starting to benefit from their savvy idea of buying an English club, one way of getting the riches from the premier league into an Italian football.

Only way it changes is with a massive protest. That’s exactly what the Udinese fans did and it’s paid off. Pozzo listened to the fans and made changes. Only way we see any positive changes at Watford is when the fans start doing something about it instead of laying down, being shafted and enjoying it.

Could really do with Elton doubling down on his summer involvement message and getting these clowns out of our club.

Obviously hit a ceiling a couple of years ago and now they’re so far in the sh*t they haven’t got a clue how to get out of it.

Rancid recruitment of both playing and non-playing staff and a clear inability to learn from their mistakes. A quite frankly down right dodgy relationship with Mogi who continuously peddles us useless duds at an extortionate price. Absolute crooks.

They remind me of Arsene Wenger somewhat, all the really good things they did for the club are at risk of being seriously tainted.

Thanks for the memories, time do the right thing and sell up!
