    Hodgson hadnt even crossed my mind when thinking about the next manager, I didnt see him mentioned in the next head coach thread until it became a rumour either, out of the blue this one.

    Old, but likeable and kept some utterly awful Palace sides up comfortably. As short term appointments go we would struggle to do better in our situation.

    Sami Mokbel (Daily Mail) appears to have an inside source at the club. He has written an article claiming that Ranieri's heart was not really in the job (giving some specific examples) and suggested that Watford should have spoken with Fulham (where there were similar problems) before appointing him.

    Well we're only getting a Diego Martinez type if we stay up, if we're going down that line of thinking, I still think we should have gone for someone who'd have been happy to stick around in the Championship

    Yeah, I read that but not sure how true that was. He claimed Ranieri was hardly ever at the training ground. But in all the video clips the club puts out he’s always training with the players, plus I know Gino would never tolerate that as he’s always at the training ground himself.

    I think it’s fairly nailed on…

    But a few outlets, including Leventhal, saying he’s ‘under consideration’. Perhaps not the done deal a few of us have been lead to believe.

    You could be right, although I read that Diego Martinez wouldn't mind coaching in a lower league, and he's been linked with Las Palmas recently. Can only assume he's insane.

    Diego Martinez was in talks with Las Palmas who are in the Spanish second division. I don’t think being in the Championship rules him out or relegation would have seen him sacked - I think it’s more about the project.

    I think it’s extremely ambitious for us to think we would be going from ultra-short-termism in Hodgson to a project under Martinez in the summer. Palace only managed it in the summer because they got a ton of money from an investor to back Vieira with.

    If we wanted a project coach - now was the time.

    Having just read this article, it makes The Stability look even worse - this is insane!

    They're desperate to retain Premier League status this season, so to replace the competition-winning PE teacher they let in the deep end without his floaties, they hired a dilettante septuagenarian family-friend who everyone else knew was mentally checked-out except them because they didn't do their proper due diligence?!?

    Roy Hodgson has agreed to become new Watford manager. Just final paperwork to be signed off tomorrow. Barring any really late glitches, the deal is done. Players and current staff already aware of Hodgson’s (and Ray Lewington’s) arrival. Update on @MailSport
