He's been partially or wholly responsible for too many goals conceded lately, including all three on Saturday.
You seem to be a nice person, able to remember the positives that are so easily forgotten. Just glad you’re not picking the team.
I don’t see how a player can get so much credit from some for a handful of performances, when the direction of travel is abundantly clear. It would make sense if he’d started out badly and his better performances had been recently, but he’s gone drastically downhill and his performances are getting worse. It’s all about context surely, how do a couple of good performances months ago help us now? Clearly him being overweight was tolerated at the start of the season with presumably the assumption he would get fitter as the season went on, but that hasn’t happened which explains his absence in the team for someone as useless as Masina. It’s not like this didn’t happen at his last two clubs, so it’s bizarre how some people are trying to rationalise something that is just pretty obviously explained.
Yes Sema, he isn't fit at the moment, but you are correct could probably do a job at left back against the next three type of fixtures clubs, but against the top 6 we are struggling!
Did you watch Saturday's game? He made mistakes in all three goals and, had it not been for Bachmann, he would have cost us another 3 or 3.
Yes but his early part in the 2nd goal was worth it. Grealish falls over if you breath next to him, so a good clatter was a good bit of play.
Unfortunately as good as Man City were we made it very easy for them, with a better left back performance we will never know if the score would have been closer, I think its a case of hindsight and a questions of if they hadn't been helped by Mr Rose they would have picked up a couple of goals elsewhere!
All the club needs to do is look on Transfermarkt to see there isn't a single free agent left back that looks anywhere near the required level. Not that they seem to care about whether players are actually good enough or not half the time. The only player I've even heard of in about the first 50 on the list is Coentrao, who is now 33. Oh, and that Fanchone bloke that used to play for us. Bring him home!
Good news! The puff piece that Adam has dropped this morning out of nowhere suggests it's rather possible that Gino and his crew are already laying the groundwork to row back on what was previously reported and pretend we don't need a left back in January:
Haha: Expect similar propaganda on the centre back front by end of December as “key players return to fitness leaving the squad well stocked in the centre back department”. We know where this ends with Pozzo.
I hope AL realises we sold Wilmot, and that he want be able to suggest him as viable option for every position on the pitch this time around.
Stop wetting the bed. Gino and Scott won’t do bad business in January. I’m hearing that WD18 Fans have been approached to shill tat on a Hornets Hive show coming soon!
To be fair, this is taken from an interview that Rose did weeks ago - to give Leventhal some credit for once, he has reported we want another LB for a number of weeks since this interview. (For what it’s worth, I’m not convinced the club do want a LB)
‘Stories around recalling Mattie Pollock have been gathering around London Colney due to his versatility’ reports Leventhal.
Yeah, I'm not actually meaning to emphasise that particular quote - it's just the most compact part of the article to provide some illustration of the general tone and reason for existing, added to the hoary old 'determined to prove people wrong' cliche that Leventhal has chosen to trot out for the seven millionth time and that we all know what is meant by.
I'm glad that he has that determination and he certainly has the talent to do it if he can get properly fit. In one or two of the games he played, we saw some exquisite passes forward - better than any Watford full back I've seen for some time. I don't think he's ever going to be king of sprinting back though, so he will need covering occasionally. We definitely need a No.1 left back in January, but I'd be happier with a fit Rose on the bench or perhaps occasionally starting than poor old Masina, who has never been much more than average to poor.
Latest update: He’s still fat. Not as fat as he was, but still too fat to play. Good news though, he’s an important part of the dressing room. Just the sort of professional leadership we need.
$ky are currently showing the 2015 League Cup between Chelsea and Spurs. Oddly enough there's a player named Rose playing in white. He looks lean and committed. I wonder if he is in any way related to our one?!
Yet another expensive lesson for Gino. If it looks like a turd, and smells like a turd, 99.9% of the time it’s a turd, a fat turd at that.
Updated to say he will leave during this window. Sky also reporting Samir is close to being announced.
Can we just stop having overweight players in the squad? Deeney was rubbish for the years he was overweight and we finally get rid of him and bring in Tufat and Danny Rose. How about a policy of signing players that are actually fit.
Well a few on here did call it. A real wasted opportunity for him. Offered the chance to resurrect his career but failed miserably.
Shame as I think he still has the quality. I don't think his heart is in it anymore though, I can't see him ever regaining the fitness needed.
I think the club need to rethink their whole policy. I think it’s one thing picking up players like Dennis who obviously have the talent, but the attitude is questionable, it’s another entirely when the question marks are around fitness and motivation.
