Yup but we were brilliant for 70 minutes against villa who just beat Manure away so I dont think that logic works. Newcastle is clearly not a happy club and it wouldnt take much for them to implode

The Villa game was one of those where we caught them by surprise. They didn’t know our team. It was a one off as subsequent results and performances have proved.

I remember Norwich beat Man City 3-2 in their opening match a couple of seasons ago. It shouldn’t be seen as anything more than one of those odd results you get before teams really hit their stride. It was certainly not an indicator as to how good we are.

Even in that Villa game they nearly took a point after we struggled once they worked us out.

Pretty sure I read Villa were only back for 10 days before that game at ours?

No idea. I thought you were saying that because we beat Villa, we’ll be ok? If that wasn’t your point then you’d need to clarify.

Only one team in this and Harry Kane must be wondering why he stayed.

Football is random, but when you start playing well with some sort of plan, you can take some of that randomness away. We played quite well against an undercooked Villa team and against one of the worst teams in Premier League history, played OK against Tottenham (though that result and performance haven't aged well), but other than that we've been dreadful, barely even competing. Newcastle are bad, but they're not so bad that we can finish ahead of them without even playing well

My god. How did we lose to Spurs. 34 mins and it’s 3-0 to Arsenal.

Was totally pointless keeping Kane, Spurs are an absolute shambles. Realistically they got lucky with one managerial appointment who took them to a level above where they usually are. Their managerial appointments pre and post that era have largely been awful.

I suspect Nuno will be out of a job soon. I’d be happy if Watford approached him.

No way would he come here HB1. Can you generally see Gino giving him the amount of control he would like?

Over the 6 games I don’t think we’ve shown enough to suggest we’d stay up. Not just the Newcastle game, it’s a collection of matches which tells me we’re not progressing as a team.

An apparent fall out with Sierralta. A clear rap on the knuckles from Giaretta in a Twitter post.

I’ve seen enough football to see the signs and I just think we’re heading for relegation unless something, which is different from what I’ve seen to date, changes.

It was out of his hands I think. Daniel Levy blocked the move as he wanted more money from City.

“The problem is, most of us believe Newcastle will be in the bottom three, or certainly a contender. That’s thesame Newcastle who should have thrashed us at home.”

i get what you are saying but your OP was about newcastle - one game, one performance, one opposition. Their fans are convinced they are going down too not least because of the same evidence yesterday

So City forked out 100M for Grealish instead. I cannot see Kane being there for much longer to be fair. He is a good striker, and surely he will almost certainly want to play for a club he connects to. To his credit he has been at Spuds a while
and a good servant to them. If he feels it's time for him to move on (ala Deeney), Levy should not stand in his way.

I know we have not shown great form over the 6 games. But there are still 8 teams below us, surely they also have problems and are not playing well enough to be sure they will not be in trouble.

Isn't Spurs the club he connects to, having been born in Walthamstow which is not that far from Tottenham? And he's been there since he was a kid although he was at Arsenal briefly before that.

We have had some good moments and bad, with some "not sure whats going on" moments thrown in for good measure, we're also still learning.

I've seen enough to say we have a chance thia season. Whilst there may not be 3 sides worse, there could be a couple other than Norwich who are no better than us, and less lucky.

If we're hacked off at signing Louza for £9m to keep certain agents sweet, imagine how pissed off we'd have been had we signed anyone like Fabio Silva for £35m!

The positives are that we have some good players who can come up with moments of magic, but we're gonna need a bit of luck with injuries, and a manager who isn't (to put it charitably) learning on the job

I'm certainly not sgguesting that NC will continually bounce back every time they are promoted, merely that we will be impacted more than them. Very difficult to see any of our new prem players brought in on loan staying, King will only stay if he has been unsuccessful with us and can't find a prem move, Dennis ditto, Foster and Kuka will be even more ancient. Just didn't think it was fair to poke fun at the difficulty NC will have without pointing out the mess we will be in. I guess we'd get Dele-Bashiru back, Zinkernagel too ?

We were pretty lucky to bounce back ourselves, a bit like the reverse of our relegation season, there are a number of events that could’ve gone slightly differently and we wouldn’t have got promoted.

As long as we keep the debt down and Udinese remain a Serie A team, then we’ll still be able to maintain a squad better than most championship teams, especially with FFP keeping them more in check over time. Still no guarantees we’ll always go straight back up though, just like when the Pozzos first took over.

A bigger risk might be if the distribution of funds change, like parachute payments, but as long as it was replaced by something merit base then Gino should still be able to use that to his advantage.

Kucka may be ancient and barely Prem level now, but Sanchez I think was even more washed than Kucka, and he could do a job in the Championship in fairness, him, Sissoko and maybe Etebo (but clearly not Tufan), as well as TDB and possibly Quina and Zinckernagel (depending on where he would play) plus any new signings would be our options in midfield. Mind you, if Quina comes back, that'd probably be because he's not done well at Fulham!

I can't see Sissoko being happy to play for us in the Championship for a second, to be honest, and the Stoke fans were generally of the opinion that Etebo wasn't interested in playing for them at that level either, hence his failure there, so that's another we can add to the 'unlikely to be retained/useful' list if we are relegated. Sanchez was useful for those few moments he played, but they were indeed few, and that's basically the point - even if Kucka himself stayed, there's absolutely no way he'd get anywhere near featuring heavily as a starter over a 46 game Championship season.

Basically, we'd have to recruit a new midfield again, or decide that Gosling and Cleverley are the answer

And that's without the possibility of, say, TDB having a successful season at Reading and deciding as a result that he reckons he deserves an opportunity to 'test himself at the next level'. I'm not saying that would actually be the smartest choice for him, but it's very much a scenario you could see playing itself out.
