Article in The Athletic highlighting how our 4 new signings on the pitch on Saturday cost 3 mill and Villas cost about 90 mil
He took my criticism of not coming off his line to heart on the penalty. He could have shuffled along the line
He will never be played as one of the 3 midfield surely ? I can only see him playing as one of the 2 wide players upfront. But we’ll see …
Ours cost that much? Wow. We are really splashing out compared to last season. We're back in the big time, baby!
Just a reminder of this link to John Marks' commentary of the goals... http://www.wfc.net/21-22/highlights/ "Oh...my...word..."
Ah ok, it's the fact you'd said "playing behind" that threw me. You mean as part of a fluid mobile front 3 - yes agree.
Late to the party with my thoughts and being extra lazy cutting and pasting stuff I put in an email to friend who couldn’t make it…. It was a good game for sure. He seems to have got them well organised straight away with a mix of no nonsense long balls when required but also playing through the middle when the game is stretched. All the new signings were very good. Etebo settled into the holding role expertly, Kucka is a monster but has some great touches. There is a red card waiting to happen though to be honest. And Dennis, what a joy to see a forward causing all sorts of problems, nicking the ball of some poor unsuspecting holding midfielder time and time again. Plus he gets into good places most of the time and showed some great touches. Goal was a little fortunate but just what you need to kick off the season. Cucho’s introduction wasn’t bad either. Lol. Right behind that beauty! Obviously it was just the first game and Villa were genuinely very poor. It did show the value of getting your transfer business done early as they did look like a team who hadn’t played together. I’m sure some tough times lay ahead, but bear in mind that team had no Kiko, no sieralta, no chalobah, no Hughes (likely out the door), no Pedro, and with King and Louza to come it’s a promising start. Hell even Deeney looked fit for a change. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not sure if it was mentioned before, last Saturdays result was only our second opening day win in the Premier League, the first coming August 2018 home against Brighton! when we won our first 4 games!
Looking increasingly like we caught Villa at a good time, plus, you know, one of the best Watford debuts for a long time from a 34 year old who probably can't be trusted to stay fit all season
