Really dropped the ball losing to those football terrorists! I give them credit, they have a great defence, I'd love us to take Guehi alongside Sierralta, but when you score so few, you're putting them under pressure

The Otter has started playing for Burnley again and has done half decent, I'm sure he'd have done a job had we signed him...mind you, he could have gone to Muff!

Did a job as a bit part player for United (scored some handy goals for them, though I'm not sure any of them were in the Prem), would he be a useful signing for us? I'm sure there'd be better value elsewhere, but still

Iggy could only be a back up, fourth choice or something, we need an actual PL striker to stay up next season, if that’s what Gino wants us to do.

We had to leave as needed to eat and sleep and he was unconscious with his lungs still pumping away. He was in and out of consciousness due to the morphine before then anyway but we left a message which the nurse wrote down to read out to him in his next moment of consciousness "Watford beat Norwich 1-0. The horns are definitely going up!". I don't think she had a clue what it meant but promised to read it to him and we will reinforce that if/when he's conscious this morning. A nice way to bow out today....

Fairly sure there will be some loud shouts regarding parachute payments etc from the wider football fraternity - more so if Bournemouth win the playoffs - and that they are making the Championship an increasingly unfair playing field. That 3 clubs can be relegated, sell some of their best players, not really sign anyone, and still bounce straight back up.

Not saying I agree. But it’s inevitable that the point will be raised.

Yes but we all know we won't be buying a proven 15 goals a season prem striker (other than Iggy who will only be 32 next season).
Hopefully we unearth a promising young striker who we believe can make the step up but might only be another W.I.P like Pedro. We won't be spending £40m on a proven goalscorer.

Probably already started but we have had it far from easy this season particularly away from home.

Just hit a great patch of form whilst others have blown up and struggled.

I know we won’t, but if we don’t we’ll go down. 1 player in double figures this season and that’s the championship, more games and all easier.

Agreed but the parachute payments are essential for smaller relegated clubs survival if they don't get promoted. Just think of the mess we would have been in without them if we didn't go up. Very rare for all 3 to go back up and I don't think 2 do that frequently ? Reduce the parachute payments and we would have to insist on massive pay reductions relegation clauses which would reduce the chances of smaller clubs being able to sign better players to compete in the prem.

I’ve seen enough of Watford ‘sprinting’ down the home straight to know that the first part of your equation is eminently possible. It’s the second part where I think it becomes impossible.

Clubs like Brentford can’t have their cake and eat it. I’m assuming they want promotion one day, and when they do finally get it without parachute payments they’d be back down in a year with sod all.

Oh I know. We have very few players of prem quality and it will be tough to get the squad up to prem standard without taking on more financial risk this summer. I think we may spend £25m on a striker who we believe can step up but strikers are so damn expensive not sure what we would get for that ? Maybe the collapse of the transfer market may help us pick up a relative bargain ?

If Bournemouth don’t come up, I wouldn’t be entirely surprised to see us try and take Danjuma from them.

I think someone like Mitrovic wouldn’t be a bad shout, he’s younger than you think (27 maybe?) and I don’t think he’d cost a lot at all, maybe even a loan.

Yep. Parachute payments are a symptom, not the disease.

The flip side is there are probably as many former Prem sides that have been relegated and then gone on a spiral and been in financial meltdown.

The issue is the gap between the Champ and the Premier league. Blaming parachute payments is misdirected.

Yeah, I won’t start that debate again but the answer is get rid of parachute payments but close the gap financially between 20th place and 21st place. Until that happens parachute payments are an entirely necessary evil for all clubs, Brentford included.

But how good is he ? In and out of the Fulham side ? Watching the likes of Brighton, Newcastle, Burnley, C Palace live, they are poor in prem terms but looked light years ahead of our current 11 despite our 11 playing with confidence after a great run rather than doubt after a 5 game losing streak in the prem.... These are the clubs we need to be able to compete with next season.

    Agreed.

The fact that the 3 relegated clubs look like bouncing back at the first attempt owes far more to Covid (other clubs not being able to spend) and the lack of crowds if you ask me. A fervent support at the lesser sides in the league can be a leveller. Take them away and the better players rise to the top in matches far more often.

I agree but, to be fair, he was utter dog***** last season. He and Chalobah the two most improved players this season I would suggest. (Chalobah obviously a slightly different case because of the injury)

He's had his bad games of course, but overall he's been good since coming into the team. That said, he's not in the same category as the likes of Rico Henry, it isn't as much him that's inspired this upturn in form, but just the fact we have any half decent LB there, we'd need an upgrade for the Prem
