I'm still in the "he's gash" column. Not yet convinced that he's anything but all fur coat and no knickers. Any other haters sticking to their guns on this one?
Had we made this change of formation before the end of the transfer window, wonder whether he would have stayed. He was never getting into a midfield two but could've been useful in a three.
Was it Zinckernagel playing as a #10 yesterday off the bench? Of course he'd have more of a chance of getting in the team, but there's no guarantee that he would tbf
Was in the process of writing this exact thing in the Transfers section before deciding to check here. Four senior central midfielders into three doesn't leave much flexibility, especially when we get the inevitable injuries. Quina could do a job, particularly later on in games or against weaker opposition.
I don’t think any of the lockdown lads are held in a particularly good light. Quina offloaded, the door was open for Chalobah and nobody would have stood in the way had there been an exit opportunity for Gray.
Scored a cracker on his first start for Granada. https://twitter.com/LoanWatford/status/1363545160324419584?s=19
3 decent games. Someone will be digging out some old posts and suggesting he could become our Fox in the box next.
Excellent. This is what he needs. Minutes. He has the pace for the Premiership. If he can improve his knowledge of the game, position, spacing and where he passes the ball, he could be a big asset for us in the future.
Has 1 year left on his contract. He’ll be gone in the summer if he looks in any way capable of playing in La Liga.
Probably, but we may still be skint, so if he'll re-sign we might have to go that route. Remember, a big reason that we brought in managers like QSF early on was to help recruit players who were good enough to play in the Prem but who otherwise might not have come here - even if we overpaid. I doubt that Xisco will have that kind of ability (although he was well respected in his day as a player). So until he proves himself, we may not be getting too many even moderately expensive players in. Now, if we win another 8 in a row, then 2/3 of the rest and sail to the League title, who knows? "Mini Marcelo Bielsa" may be born.....
He wouldn’t want to re-sign with us. Why would he if he has any other options esp in La Liga ? Lack of game time here and a reduced package, he’d have to be pretty desperate to commit to more time with us.
It's a fair point that with 1 year left, we'll want to either sign him up for longer or sell him on. No doubt that figured into the decision to loan him. *If* we are promoted and Xisco is still manager, I think it's plausible that the conversation runs along the lines of: "I think you're good enough to take minutes off of Chalobah's knee and Old Man Cleverley... do you agree mate? Come on then, take your place here and be a star in the biggest league in the world. If you don't think you're good enough, then you're not...". If he says, "No, I'd rather play closer to home..." or "I need to be guaranteed a starting place" then sell him.
He’s done it again. He was so clearly an incredibly talented player but we wasted him for years then shoehorned him into a weird position in a defensive team. I’m not surprised he’s thriving elsewhere. To loan him out while we play a 4-3-3 and only have four central midfielders is brain dead and now we’re going to lose him for a fraction of his value because we let his contract run down. When did the Pozzos get so bad at turning profits on youngsters?
I'm reliably informed that in the Championship, where all you need to be is a pashun merchant, that Quina was too lightweight. Which seems to be the current go-to reasoning for badly utilised players.
Someone on Twitter seems to be under the impression that neither of the goals he's scored for Granada so far would've happened because he'd instantly be tackled over here. I forgot it's common knowledge that nobody actually ever has a shot in the Championship because within a second of receiving the ball they are clattered by some clogger.
Totally agree. No way should he been loaned out this season. A full Championship would have been perfect for Quina, just as it has been for Pedro. We only have 4 viable midfielders and are using 3 in every match under the current formation. One more injury or suspension and we're screwed. We'll have to start using non-midfielders like Wilmot or Zinckernagel, use the rookie Philips, or change the formation because we don't have the players. Sheer madness and another example of those at the top acting like clueless idiots. Same situation as we had with the LB situation earlier in the season.
Our fans! The Pozzos sign Britos, Prodl, Janmaat, Dawson, Deeney and Gray to long, expensive contracts, well into their 30s and they get criticised. The Pozzos don't sign a talented 20 year old to more than 1 year and they get criticised. They can't win with you lot!
Heard suggestions he was sent on loan to get away from certain bad influences at the club who were getting him into trouble..
