Assuming all the current professional English football players were available for selection, what would be your 22 man squad and starting line up? I'm off to give it some thought, I'll be back in the morning.

    G'night all :yawn1:

    My Squad

    GK: -
Cudicinni (he is eligible to play for England though I know he has refused)
    Robinson
    Foster

    DEF: -
    A Cole
    M Richards (RB/CB)
    G Neville
    Barry (LB/LM/CM)
    Terry (Capt)
    Woodgate
    L King (CB/CM)
    R Ferdinand

    MF:-
    Gerrard
    J Cole
    Lennon
    Lampard
    Wright-Phillips
    Hargreaves (CM/RB/L&RM)

    ST: -
    Scholes (ST/AM)
    Rooney
    Owen
    Defoe
    Crouch

    1STEleven: -
    GK Cudiccini
RB M Richards (Utility CB if needed)
    CB Terry
    CB Woodgate
    LB A Cole
    (Diamond MF)
CM L King (Utility CB if needed)
    RM Lennon (ST if needed)
LM J Cole (ST if needed)
    AM Gerrard
    ST Rooney
    ST Owen

    Bench: -
    Robinson
    Hargreaves (Utility Player)
    Wright-Phillips (ST/RM)
    Lampard
    Scholes (ST/AM)

NB: I know Cudiccini is a real wild card, but if he would agree to play for England, for which he is now eligible, I would take him like a shot, despite the fact he is only 2nd choice at Chelsea.

I cannot believe you would have Robinson ahead of Ben Foster?

Thats just insane. How can you excluse Jamie Carragher if we're talking about all players being available.

    ..............OWEN..............

    ROONEY.......LAMPARD........GERRARD

    ....BARRY.................HARGREAVES

    COLE......TERRY...WOODGATE....RICHARDS

    ...................FOSTER..............

SUBS - ROBINSON, G. NEVILLE, J COLE, BENT, YOUNG, PENNENT, JOHNSON

The rest of the squad ( as you can have 23 now )
    - Carson, D. Ashton, Beckham, SWP, Baines or Shorey

No place for Defoe, Lennon, P Neville, Heskey ( although he did a good job at the weekend) Brown or Crouch, I don't believe any are international quality

Tis amazing how far English football has come despite the foreigners. Not one of those players would make the current first XI.

we have crap centre forwards except for owen so i say drop them and play classic dutch style without any recognised out and out striker. just loads of midfielders who can float around.

Not for me mate. I rate some of our players that highly that Beardsley would just miss out. See your point though.

Can you? Are you spying on me?:]]

I think Beardsley would be a good replacement for Rooney and a foil for Owen...I actually would go as far to say Rooney isn't a good a player as Beardsley was in his day!

I think with two good holding mids - Hargreaves more defensive minded than Barry I think - Gerra can concentrate on attacking play and with Ash and Rooney as wing attackers - each pulling in centrally when the play builds up on the other side of the pitch.

Only thing missing is a target man and I don't know if England can play without one?!
