Someone actually gets paid to tweet that ****. Then people, presumably with jobs, mortgages, kids, bills, pets etc actually feel the need to respond. Deliberately interacting with social media is like constructing a network of pipes to blast sewage directly into your eyeballs.
Good lord. I'm failing to obtain a words from my vocabulary to illustrate how epically **** that all is. So I may have to make a few up. Crudtastically, masspathetically, laughmongously sad.
There's a geordie rumour that Mike Ashley, once he got his wonga back has set his sights on Palace...
Let’s hope so. But given that he grew up in S Bucks & lives in Totteridge, his boyhood club may not be in S London.
If he goes there, that will be a hell of a signing. He is one of the genuine few top quality players outside of a top 6 club. His preference is Arsenal though, so hopefully he'll go there. We usually lose to Arsenal so them improving wont affect our results against them too much.
Arsenal really are a mess at the moment though. Wouldn't be surprised to see Everton replace them in the top 6 this season. 2 decent strikers and the rest are mid-table tat, and no money is being spent to strengthen.
Arsenal have all the hallmarks of going crazy on deadline day overspending like mad. I still think they might spend a huge amount on Pepe and Zaha. I also have a sneaking idea that they might cause a stir and go for Bale.
But publicly they've said they have nothing to spend which is why they are struggling to land Zaha. If they had the cash it would be a done deal - he's said he wants to go there.
Have they said they have nothing to spend? Just seems to be a rumour so far. Emery definitely said they were interested in ‘very talented and very expensive’ players. Weird comment for a manager of a club with no money to spend to make?
I know what has been rumoured about what they have to spend and has those clowns on AFTV up in arms. But I don’t think I’ve seen anything from the club themselves about them saying what they have to spend - seems like that would be a very odd move? And it doesn’t ring true if they bid £40m for Zaha and £25m for Tierney - that’s £65m already?
I imagine the £50m budget would be "amortized" - so for instance if they pay £25m for Zaha upfront (rest over installments) and say £10m (against rest as installments) or so for Tierney upfront then that still fits within the 50m budget. It's easy to see where Arsenal have been going wrong looking at their recent transfer dealings - they simply don't sell players for decent value - here's how much money they've sold players for (not net - so not including incoming transfers) 18/19: 7.5m 17/18: 140m 16/17: 9.3m 15/16: 2.25m 14/15: 25m 13/14: 11m Bar the 17/18 season (in which they also bought 137m worth of players) - they don't get good fees for players. This obviously limits the budget somewhat. Chelsea, Liverpool + City all get fantastic fees for fringe or youth players which helps them invest more into the first team.
Just a to draw a line under this, I’m not particularly debating what Arsenal do or do not have to spend. I’m questioning where anything official about their spending power has been said by the club themselves? The only comments I can see about spending have come from Emery, who has said they are looking at 2,3,4 players and they are very good players who are ‘very expensive’. I can’t see why any club would openly say what they have to spend?
You made a point about them bidding for 2 players. That doesn’t mean they are willing to complete both transfers. Zaha bid had a zero chance of acceptance so is frankly irrelevant. The Tierney deal is off. Not sure why you have such an issue about the widely reported view that Arsenal have a somewhat restricted transfer budget (if circa 50m can be considered restricted).
I’m sure they have never quoted an exact figure themselves. Telegraph quote their budget at 50m and they probably have better contacts than you. Even if it’s only ballpark it’s hardly a revelation that a club whose owners state that there is a concern they have a champions league wage bill with only europa league involvement will be somewhat circumspect about transfer investment.
I don’t have an issue. That’s a strange thing to say. People are stating that Arsenal themselves have publicly stated what they have to spend. I’ve just said I haven’t seen that anywhere and can’t find it. And both Palace and Celtic have both said they have received bids from Arsenal for those players. And they okay in different positions so it would be plausible to suggest they intended to complete both deals had the selling club accepted. It’s can’t be seen as the same as Watford with Sarr and ASM as they play in the same position and Nice have made no comment about us even bidding for ASM.
The latest from SSN is that Everton have offered £60m plus a player for Zaha. The player has not been named though.
I think it's getting g close now. Zaha wants to go, £60m plus player (depending on who) has to be tempting. Palace will probably have to cash in. They have already sold Wan-Bissaka for £50m, so money is not a problem for them. Palace's big problem is getting good replacements, which I'd say is unlikely. Hopefully this will be the season they either go down, or are battling all season against the drop. Without Zaha, Wan-Bissaka and Batshuayi they are done for I'd say.
If he goes maybe Palace fans will finally realise it’s Zaha we have the problem with, not necessarily them. Does take the hatred of Everton up a notch though.
Yes, of course, that would make sense. Everton have been trying to move him on for a while. Everton will probably big him up as a £20m player, seeing as that is what they paid for him, but in reality he's worth around £10m....IMO. I think Tosun is a bit crap, but would probably fit in well at Palace.
Is getting out of Palace good enough for Zaha? He has said he wants to play in the Champions' League and believes he is good enough, but he will be 27 in the autumn and Everton are unlikely to be in the CL for at least another two or three years, if ever. So he might think he is 'wasting' the next couple of years by moving to only a slightly higher placed club. Even Arsenal, if they ever came up with the money, are not in the CL at the moment; perhaps he should look abroad.
Arsenal buying Nicolas Pepe for somewhere between £70m-£80m. Not bad for a team with only £50m to spend who have already spent £25m on Saliba, €13m on loaning Ceballos and are still trying to get Tierney for £25m.
“The fee is to be paid in instalments to fit Arsenal’s summer budget which is thought to be just £40 million” This does seem like spin though to make it not contradict the widely reported budget.
