Success has come out saying that Ineanacho is the best player he's played with. Played all through Nigerias youth teams together and have a great connection on the pitch.

We should do everything we can, loan or perm to try and convince him to come here. Could be an impossible task, but at the same time could kill 2 birds with 1 stone if we then let Success replace Amrabat on the right wing

I'd take Lucas Leiva on a free, not my favourite player but can do a good job and knows the league. Contract runs out at the end of the season. Apparently Galatasary, Celtic and Brighton are interested so he could be a reasonable option. Straight replacement for Behrami

In the prem there will be teams we should dominate and have a lot of possession, and there will be teams that dominate us and we have little possession

A 4231 is a good compromise between the 2 scenarios imo

We missed out on a ton of cash by finishing 17th the budget is way smaller than it could have been; we've got to get bargains and work with our own back catalogue if not first choice then squad players (Kums, Suarez, Wague, Penaranda, Agbo, Mally etc) I don't see anyone giving us a heap of cash for our old tat, Deeney maybe.

I would build the side around a double pivot of Cleverley and Ducoure . This would give Pereyra more freedom to go and create things further forward. Each side of Pereyra I'd go with Berghuis and Success.

After that we start to run into problems: Deeney isn't mobile and Okaka is a bit hit and miss and never been prolific anyway. We need a new striker, a smaller faster natural finisher. That's going to cost big bucks.

Janmaat is made of glass, Holebas is a nutter. Both are offensive but quite poor defensive. We need an alternate pair of new full backs.

None of our centre backs will pull up trees but we have partnerships that are at least functional. Prodl - Kaboul, Prodl - Cathcart etc.

Gomes I'd keep for another year, Pants maybe also. But wasting 3 non HG spots on keepers is stupid.

So my core 11 playing a possession pass and move game

    ............................New.........................
    .....Success.......Pereyra.....Berghuis....
    ...........Cleverly...........Ducoure...........
    New.........Prodl......Kaboul..........New
    ........................Gomes.........................

    In:
1 x big money signing striker
    2 x full backs

Good post. I do think we have money to spend (well we need to at least) as we have Ighalo's money, plus whatever was earmarked for Niang. The Pozzo's will probably boost that will many small sales here and there for players like Parades, Suarez, even Britos.

I like the formation. My main issue is that Success and Berghuis seem asymmetrical. One likes to run at people while the other doesn't really have the pace or power. Berghuis always seemed to favour cutting in and crossing, but maybe he's changed after his loan. I think it's better to have pace on both wings to stretch the opposition.

Janmaat has been glass this season, but was he like that for Newcastle? I'm hoping that a preseason and improvement in training will sort this issue out--he's definitely good enough. With Dje Dje I think RB is low priority, whereas LB is high priority as we only really have Holebas.

Centerback's are good enough as you say. I still have hopes for Kabasele (for no good reason), and think Prodl/Kabasele would be a good pairing. We certainly have enough options, but if a younger player that is good on the ball became available, I'd be happy with that. Think we are still chasing Tisserand.

Definitely agree we need a new striker of the type you describe, have no idea who though.

    - Goalkeeper. I'd still play Gomes, but he's not getting any younger. I'd want a goalkeeper who would actually challenge him for his position, rather than merely be a 'No. 2 Goalkeeper'.

    - Defensive full-back(s). I think Janmaat and Holebas are great, but there are times when we need someone whose instinct isn't to bomb forward all the time. Mind you, the four centre-back system that we used a couple of times this season seemed agreeable.

    - Defensive Midfielder. One who sits in front of the defenders but can also dictate play and hold the ball up well.

    - Attacking Midfielder. Not necessarily a #10, but someone who is naturally more advanced on the pitch, rather than simply putting Capoue up there. I believe this is Pereyra's role, more or less, but it would be good to have more than one.

    - An advanced winger. Like Niang, but with more about him.

    - A striker. And one who is ready to compete. I get it that we sign players for the future, but we want someone who can come straight in and impact. I'm not expecting 20 goals, but I'd like to see something.

On the whole, I'd like to see improvements that make the team more offensive and constantly on-the-go, and much, much less inclined to pass the ball back to Gomes from a free kick on the edge of the other team's box.

My plan would be a new goalie new left back new right back a new central defender a couple of goalscoring midfielders and a proven striker.
And get rid of the dead wood.

Couldn't find the Sven Kums thread but lots of chatter from Belgium that Anderlecht have made an approach for him. If they get him, he will go down in history with Juanfran as one of our greatest players never to have played for us or even set foot in London Colney.

As for Agbo, Penaranda and Malle, I think they'd all struggle for work permits. None are regulars for their country and Agbo aside, they've not even been club regulars. Suarez will be back and we'll be lucky to find someone to take him off our hands with three years left on his contract and a pretty disastrous spell at Valencia following an unsuccessful spell with us, which in turn followed a rubbish spell in Fiorentina. Cheers for lumbering us with that one, Quique.

Is the forum now cool with us buying 8-10 players this summer now? I know this was a bugbear for many in the past.

    Manager - Marco Silva

GK - Begovic (but he'll go elsewhere)
LB - Fernando Mar*al from Benfica
CB - Ranocchia if we get Silva, although I'd love to see Kabasele get fit enough for a run in the side.
    CB - Prodl
    RB - Janmaat
    CM - Lemina from Juve
    CM - Doucoure
    AMC - Pereyra
LW - Success (I'm sure he's good enough and fit enough)
    CF - Destro?
RW - I'd love to say Berghuis but he'll be off. Lazar Markovic from Liverpool, even on loan.

I doubt we'll sign Niang. He ultimately helped save us from relegation with bits of quality but he doesn't look like a player that wants to improve, he'd rather sing on Instagram.

I've been wondering this, can’t quite gage the mood. Think there’s a split of those who think we need to sell everyone and rebuild and those that think we just need a few quality additions.

It’ll ultimately come down to the new manager and if he thinks the players we have can play the way he hopes to, which may seem obvious of course!
I am just hoping for some youth and energy personally, which should in turn mean going forward there would be less need for loads of signings in the summer.

i wouldn't be confident that we'd match the wages of most other premier league clubs. But we know Success and ineanacho have a good friendship and connection on the field as they've played together for years. Hopefully we could use this to our favour

Alfie Mawson for £3m? Absolutely no chance.

Imbula is also apparently awful, even Stoke fans say that he only seems to play well against Watford!

I rate him. Was very good for Boro in the championship and in his 20 games for Boro in the Prem, looked solid most games. Only down side is he is 29 so unless we manage to get him £5mil or less, he's not worth having here.

Personally I hope we really give Mason some more game time this season. Definitely raw, but looks like he could become a solid LB one day with pace. Similar to a Bertrand type player.

Maybe Ake or Chalobah- doubt it though.
Maybe Grosecki depending on what's happening with amrabat.
We need a deep lying technical midfielder.

We need a centre half , previously linked with vermalaen who I would take.

    Allan wouldn't mind either way

We need a striker who will bang in the goals. Does that mean shipping off Deeney to Brom ?? £30 million I'd bite your hand off.
    Potential strikers
    Steve mounie ( previous linked)
Personally with the system Silva would play, I'd look to snatch Lucas Perez or Oumar niasse.
I'd like more home grown talent , somehow I don't see much of that coming..
    Outs
    Britos
    Brahami
Dje da dejede (forgive me please)
    Maybe zuniga (love him)
    Watson(needs regular footie)
    Okaka????
Burghuis?? I like him ,should stay!!
    Oulare
    Pantilmon (crap)

We shall see soon enough what comings and goings happen

Obviously that's a lot of upheaval and I honestly only expect us to sign 3/4 players this summer, quality over quantity. But that's the type of pool of players I'd be aiming for.

I'd also bring back Berghuis - won the league and in the Dutch squad and never been given a fair crack and I hope that changes. I also expect a big season from Success.

Penaranda, I would keep hold of if he gets a work permit.

Obviously a few of these signings would be major coups, but I feel all the players mentioned are reasonably realistic. Not 100% on squad rules, but fairly sure u21s don't towards the 25 man squad (correct me if im wrong).
