Hi Fan, quite a few posts were lost during the change over to the new hosts, you will have to PM the guy if you want to get the info mate. I think it was Toronto Tim, or something like that?
ta for that VoR. i'm currently in the process of securing a ****** place to live near where PYA recommended (east hastings.) for anyone other that PYA who knows what east hastings is like, you'll surely agree, i'm a ****ing idiot. in all my travels i have never seen anywhere more poverty stricken nor so teeming with trolley pushing junkies as this area. unless i go for kitsano beach. which is actually very nice
well. its been almost two weeks now and i've just landed my second job which should last me two months on 10 dollars an hour (i think i'm working for a pharaoh). I should also have a house by the end of the day which is nice. However i've had a job before and almost had a house before on the same day and I got fired after 6 hours and made homeless again in 20 minutes the last time round so i'm sitting on happiness for now. In other news, Vancouver seems to buy all its food direct from Zimbabwe (either that or they inject gold into everything) and tipping really takes the edge off getting pissed. However, as is apparent by now, I'm basically amazing so i've been able to get by with nothing more than a cheeky smile and an exaggerated accent most of the time. I'm a massive canucks fan now to the point where wfc is nothing more than a distant memory. Canadians remain the politest, nicest and least funny people i've ever had the pleasure of meeting.
after an hour and a half, the guy who hired me quit. 4 and a half hours after that i was sacked. apparently she went to the same business school as steve mcclaren. Canucks are doing well, but it seems as though its luongo doing it all by himself (note until a week ago i'd never watched an ice hockey game). Everyone outfield is too wildly inconsistent to the point where they lost to the worst team in the division yesterday
When you have the 'Hockey Night in Canada' theme running through your head at random times, you have truly arrived in North America's second most populous English speaking nation.
Luongo is a man-god. But seeing as the Sedin brothers are the most consistent performers on ice now Naslund has left, I think you're right regarding the outside lines. Not that I have any idea what I just said. Keep living the dream, friend.
the **** one. i don't really know. all i know is a vaguely homeless man told me that they were paying him 5 million dollars and he doesn't score
If only I knew what he looked like. I've just got an empty can of specialbrew and a supermarket pair of varifocals on a plinth. for that is all the physical information i can gleam from such a fantastic mind.
its almost been a month so i'd thought i'd write a small update. basically, in 4 weeks i've managed to come across 2 jobs and been fired from both. Since saturday though i've been offered 4 more jobs one of which is a full on salaried position. the lesson? england has an ok system where you get a job and basically keep it for as long as you want providing you don't line up a rack on your keyboard at lunchtime. canada has a better system though where every week you're in fear of your financial future and dazzled by new faces every few days. i'd recommend working abroad to anyone. except iain duncan smith
i've had the same job now since april. it involves me phoning people up and extracting money from them. i have a natural flair for lying and not worrying about the consequences so i make a very healthy amount of money in exchange for about 3 hours of concentrated effort a day. the rest of the time i spend wowing my collegues with my accent. in terms of general canada v england observations, they don't have a football or pub culture, which is a shame. but on the other hand, they don't have a football or pub culture, which is really ****ing great! i spend my time experiencing really polite people giving me free stuff! on the other hand healthcare is very unfree which isn't cool in the slightest. on one particulary drunk weekend i racked up a 700 dollar medical bill which i won't be repatriated with until i return to england which is the worst case scenario for me at this point. but, on the whole, vancouver still edges anything london or manchester offered me. once again, everybody, hit up canada sharpish!
Thanks, fan. I doubt there is anything like British & Irish pub culture, with the possible exception of Aussie (dunno). How long do you intend to stay in Vancouver? FYI, my Vancouverite friend just moved to T'ronno for good.
oi'm staying here till march for sure. if i continue to be employed, have a bird and a have decent place to live beyond that i'll stay. your friend might be the only person i know of to move from vancouver to toronto. its usually a westward journey
unfortunately, my efforts in san fran, new york and shortly, seattle mean i'm unlikely to be able to afford a trip to la any time soon. sometime before march though i'll certainly be heading down so i fully expect a tour through some nice local brews
sure shows like the wire and the shield are good. but quality police based television is monk. and to a lesser extent psych
