http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/p/plymouth_argyle/8632434.stm Why on earth do clubs bother with these things? Serious question, has anyone who has implemented such a thing actually reached the Premiership in the fifth year? Sometimes they might stumble up there or at least get close, but it is never in the 'schedule'. Some clubs will never be able to make it up there and make it stick, especially to the schedule of a five year plan.
Because they enable clubs to sell a dream to the fans, thereby earning them money. The end goal doesn't even have to be reached and you can always move the goalposts back a bit if you're struggling.
but without a club showing signs of ambition comes stagnation and disillusioned fans vote with their feet. not unlike our situation. it simply puts an image in fans heads of a future when many wont be able to seen hope beyond the dark trap-door to league one. purely publicity but just trying to build confidence i guess.
The way Sky have directed football what hope is there for those down the pyramid ? All clubs will find a glass ceiling imposed on them beyond which it will be very hard to get past. Forget any miraculous ascents up the divisions unless backed by billionaires. And more and more kids swamped with the Sky experience turning their back on their local teams. A horrible future.
They do it so that it draws attention away from what is actually happening to them in real life. As for Plymouth ever being in the Premier League, (especially in the next 5 years) I think they can seriously dream on!
The 2018 World Cup will have a massive impact on Plymouth City. They are building a 45,000 staduim at Home Park .I think you`ll find that Argyle will become quite ambitious. The Premier League has got smaller clubs at present. Its good to have dreams. Sadly it seems we havent got any at the moment.
