So today's the big day. Does anyone think we'll get the 2018 World Cup Finals?

This is still a hard one to call. My gut says we will narrowly miss out, it feels like when we bidding for 2006 all over again. I just have a fancy for the Spain/Portugal bid. It's ashame, because as much as there are things wrong with this country, I believe it is about time we hosted the competition again.

We have been made favourites by sky bet, but it would not surprise me if we dont get it.

Russia will get it. Strong presentation and a massive new market.

Its strange that we are suddenly favourites considering Russia were odds on yesterday and Spain were second faves. Definitely think we should win the bid as genuinely believe that we are the best equipt country to host it. Could possibly understand if Russia got it though, as they have never hosted it before. It would take the p**s if Spain got it though!

Bookies odds change because of the amount of money placed on the bet so in this country it is obvious more money will go on England to win.

I think we will miss out and it will be Spain and Portugal however, I do not think that more than one country should be able to host it. If Spain / Portugal do win it they should both have to qualify.

We deserve it and have the best set up to host it but that does not mean we will win it.

I cant see spain getting it. This Russian bid is very very strong. Lots of attractive women in the videos as well.

From my perspective England is perfect due to the size of the country. The travel from one end to the other is so quick and easy an as much as we moan about public transport shifting fans around on trains is also very quick.

The grounds are roughly on a par as, I am sure, are the training facilities.

Apart from anything else Spain had the world cup in 82.

I didnt say Spain would get it , others keep stating we are better equpiied , i want to know why , all three countries have the infrastructure and stadia already , and Spain at least has a better rail and road network than the UK....

because once you get to the 2nd round you could, for example, be playing in Newcastle on day and then London 2 or 3 days later. From a fans perspective they would rather do that on a train / plane than Lisbon to Barcelona.

They wouldn’t plan Lisbon to Barcelona though, that’s ridiculous

Not necessarily, I would have thought that Lisbon would be a 1/4 final stadium and Barcelona would be a semi final stadium (although this is just a guess).

I was just using this as an example of why quick transport from one end to other could be an advantage.

I just dont agree mate that its a major factor , when you are comparing the two bids , i think Spain having it in 82 would more likley be the deciding factor ....

Newer stadia. Less racism. Faster travelling times.

Plus it hasn't really been that long since Spain last hosted a World Cup and portugal hosted the Euro's very recently.

It wont matter in the end as i suspect that Spain and Portugal are more likely to win the bid anyway.

I don't understand the betting, as 2 nights ago Russia were odds on favorites. Has something been leaked?

We've gone from 3-1 to 10/11 in the last few days, Spain have gone from evens to 6-1 in some bookies. The Russians have been floating around 4/6 to evens.

    Should be tight.

Interesting but as said above the odds are just indicative of more people becoming aware of it and backing the England bid, literally.

...and I've backed Russia with my hard earned, for 2 reasons.

    1. If we win it then I don't mind losing a few £.
    2. Whatever I back NEVER wins, so I'm doing my bit for the cause.

Which would eliminate Russia, and leave us neck and neck with Spain. So it looks like it comes down to the Russia voters and where they are going.
