Disgusting stuff. Though it seems like the scam was put in motion ages ago. As always, I'd say the anger aimed at the EFL is misdirected and needs to be aimed at the government. It makes the laws about business ownership in this country and makes things like this possible. Old Dave Whelan seemed happy as larry selling to these clowns a couple of years ago so it's hardly the EFL's job to look beyond that.
One thing that doesn't make much sense in that - what would be the benefit of the owner of Wigan placing a huge bet on Wigan to get relegated with the betting company that happened to sponsor Wigan's shirts, and when they would know the directors of the betting company?! Why would the club owner want the company paying advertising at Wigan to lose a lot of money to him? Why not just place the bet(s) with other, unrelated betting companies? Some tax avoidance scam?
