Fair enough if we're some relegation haunted no-hopers, but we aren't. This season is our best chance of winning it in 30 years, if not ever. How can 3 points be prioritised over a trophy win among supporters? I find it baffling.
One thing is for certain - the team will be stronger than the norm in previous years! And Silva will want to see those who come in impress and show what they can do - in previous years I think we have just fielded players for the sake of it to rest others.
Not sure about the little chance. A worse team than this got to the semi final. Lower league teams have been in the last 4 in both cups in numerous previous seasons. We don't have as much chance as the top 6 do but I wouldn't say its a poor chance, and each round this increases. On our day we can beat anyone in this competition. It might not even be a choice between 3 points and winning the cup game. We might do both. But if it was a straight like for like swap Ill take the cup over a higher mid table place. Which is what it will be this season. We probably wont be relegated and probably wont get a European slot. In 25 years time who will really care about the time we finished slightly higher in the league. We will care about the cup we won though
And we would care a lot. That shambles up the road always have their poxy cup win to laud over us until we get one ourselves.
But only one team can win it. So by that token, every single club has little chance of winning it. Given the top clubs propensity to play weakened teams unless they get to Q/Finals at least, I'd say we stand as good, if not a better chance, than most. With the squad we currentky have, there is really no excuse to not treat this cup as something winnable.
Average Premier League teams like Swansea, Wigan, Birmingham and Liverpool have all won domestic cups in the last six years. No reason why we can't be added to that list.
Quite amazing, the fortunes of our two clubs since we battled for promotion from the old div 3. I remember being really pessimistic every time we played them and being really envious of their striker(can't remember who he was now - powerful and lethal anyway). Now their forum is just hoping for anything bar a proper humiliation.
I think it will all come down to squad Injuries if we give this a go or not. However I think Marco has a win every game approach so we may do well.
Usually I think positively about our chances, but then get brought back to earth as a team which is unfit and have not gelled play turgid uninspiring football. Still, this year might be the exception. Pants; Mason Britos Prodl Kabasele; Success Capoue Watson; Hughes Deeney, Okaka
We always lose these games. It'll bring us back down to Earth after beating those scummy w****** from the s***hole British seaside. Pantilimon; Femenia, Kabasele, Britos, Mason; Doucoure, Capoue; Amrabat, Hughes, Success; Gray.
For the pessimists: we have two years of negative managers grinding us and the squad into the ground. 4-1 to the horns. Now is our time
It's a very low level cup game, they probably won't release it on the site. His next one will be in the build up to Brighton probably.
1997-98 season - will go down as one of my most memorable. That final day out at Fulham was immense. 3 points behind City I think and we pipped them to the title as we won and they lost. It was a scorching hot day. I said to the guy beside me "I'm getting really drunk tonight". His reply "I'm gonna really nail my bird tonight". As a young innocent lad, I accepted his crude plans and went on my way to the pitch invasion that ensued. I never did find out if said nailing occured. I like to think he took her out for a nice meal instead.
I would take 17th and the League Cup this season every single time. In fact, I'd bite your hand off for it. Even staying up by one point and winning the League Cup would be brilliant.
I've put a fiver on us winning the League Cup and a fiver on us winning the FA Cup. As the Black Eyed Peas said, I've got a feeling
Be interesting to see what Silva goes with tonight, I imagine a blend of experience and youth giving minutes to those who need it like Deeney. I think we may see something like Bachmann/Djedje Kabasele Kaboul Mason/ Watson Capoue Hughes/Sinclair Deeney Success Possibly Pereira instead of Success if he’s not in Silvas good books/too unfit. I also wouldn’t be too surprised to see Gray play and give him a chance to open his account for us and get up and running. I’m expecting the fringe players to put a lot more effort in than previous years, I have a feeling unlike our previous managers Silva will play anyone who shows they have the effort and skill rather than being sticking to his favourites every week though granted we didn’t have the depth we obviously do now.
