As the internet in my house has still not been sorted (almost a month now) I feared this would be another 'teletext' game. Fortunately for me, Dave (the Liverpool fan from previous blogs) offered me the use of his laptop and the chance to play a few matches of Pro Evo.

Before kick-off I said how the game, and the F.A Cup didn't mean much to me this season, Premiership survival being more important. Dave pointed out to me that a win would lead to a mini cup run - a nice distraction, Watford's first away win of the season, and allow us the build momentum. All true, and as the blog title suggests, as the game wore on, I realised just how crucial a role the game could play in the remainder of this season.

When Damien Francis 'scored' only for it to be ruled offside, I hadn't reacted in my normal way, partly being round someone else's house, partly because of the distraction of Pro Evo, but just as much to do with the lack of passion I had for this particular game for a reason I just can't explain. I wanted us to win but at the same time I had that gut feeling that I wasn't going to be overly disappointed if we lost. That feeling would change quickly.

As the first half battle drew to a close it sounded on 3 Counties as though Watford had dominated, having the better chances, however it appeared as though the scores were going to remain level. But then Macca, who has always been one of our flair players - the one most likely to do the unexpected scored a overhead kick when Carol missed the ball from a cross. It sounded like nothing less than we deserved, and to be honest about time we scored in one of the most crucial times in the game, I wasn't there but I could hear the boo's over the radio which says it all.

The 2nd half was the onslaught i anticipated, West Ham seemed to create chance after chance without really getting anywhere, the best chance being cleared off the line by Jordon Stewart who seems to be excelling in his role as captain. It was only a week ago I went to Villa Park where I felt he put in what I thought was one of his poorest performances.

The 2nd half seemed to pass at an agonisingly slow pace, as each minute passed I realised just how important this game could be. The first away win and against fellow league strugglers, it wasn't a league game, but it was obvious this game could increase moral levels to heights they haven't been since that day in May.

Again we seemed to be defending to deep, but this time we were not punished, hopefully, just hopefully we can start to learn and pick up some more wins. This past week we have shown we can win at home, against a team who destroyed Luton (much to my joy), and we have shown we can beat a team who have spent many more millions than us this January window.

More positive signs and hopefully this week wasn't just the eye-of-the-storm before the match at Old Trafford on Wednesday. Top Vs Bottom, David Vs Goliath as Aidy would say…I'm going to start dreaming again, F.A Cup final (Europe) and Premiership survival!

    Thanks as always, Aber

I live in Berko and ive overheard 3 seperate conversations about Watford fc thats more than i have heard in like 3 years!!! Even my step dad who cant usually go2 the football due to heart has said he wants to sneak in Ipswich game. There certainly seems to be a bit of a buzz about the place.
