With it looking like Wesley joining us, found this video from Wyscout while on loan last season at Levante. You can see why Ismael wants him. Decent hold up play, presses the backline and GK, tries to bring his teammates into the game. Obviously his scoring record isn’t great, but if and I know it’s a big if, but if we can get his confidence back, I can see him chipping in with 10 goals and a few assists. Looks like his main role though will be to keep the ball moving, keep possession, bring others into play, and be involved in the build up for us to score.
Were there any Wesley to Watford links prior to his Villa transfer? I feel like I remember Wesley discussion on here previously, and we all know how Gino is more than happy to wait until any ounce of talent has disappeared before he gets his man. EDIT: a quick search brings up several posts from Rousy a few years back recommending him. That’s all I need to know that he’s absolutely phucking ace. Get.It.Done.
From Villa fansite: useless[/paste:font] Established Member 27k Title: Threads from the dead Popular Post Posted yesterday at 19:01 My encouraging words to visiting Watford fans. five goals and one assist before his injury in December in his first season with us, which doesn't sound great but also isn't bad, would have probably have got double figures, which for a young striker as he was at the time and new to the country and playing for a struggling team would have been a good return, also look at our goals that season whilst he was fit, you will notice he was involved in the build up to a lot of them, I don't think it's a coincident that after his injury suddenly our attacking players struggled to score until the last few games of the season. Despite his unimpressive looking Levante stats seem their fans are impressed by him as well. Also check out his stats in Belgium, ten goals and nine assists in his final season, despite his size often played as second striker dropping deep, also score a couple in the Champions League against Monaco. Definitley worth the gamble for a Championship team, if can get him for the right money.
Ironically last season was his best scoring season ever . Doesn’t bear imagining what his other season were like .
Expect Bradley Dack. He’s done his ACL twice as well, 29 turning 30 this year and free. Welcome Bradley.
This is the market we’re in, perma crocks who just need a little polish and a cuddle If he can rediscover the form he showed for 6 months 5 years ago then we’ve got some player on our hands!
Tell me moraes, tell me moraes, Can you get very far ? Tell me moraes, tell me moraes, Can you drive a car ?
I’m confused now. I thought we were only considering buying or loaning in players that are returning from serious ACL injuries
It's true he's not yet had an ACL injury, but he's only got one foot, hence why one leg is longer than the other.
I knew he was off-form, I didn't quite know why, but considering he wasn't that long removed from being a real handful at Prem level, I thought we'd signed an absolute gem...
Hold up play, pressing and aerially all look pretty good and I think he could actually be pretty good in a VI team. One thing he won't do is score a lot of goals, I can't help but feel we need to add some goals from the wing pretty urgently. If so I actually quite like this deal, if not it's really hard to see where we're scoring goals from this season.
I said this elsewhere on the forum - we've lost a good chunk of goals from the wing/attacking midfield position with Sarr/JP gone. I think our strikers will score more than our strikers did last season but we're still at a pretty big deficit in terms of goals with none of our current crop of wingers (and Chakvetadze) really being very clinical at any point in their career.
If we keep Louza fit and play him in his best position (ie in a more advanced role, not a deep-lying playmaker), he should be a decent source of goals, he got 5 in the equivalent of about 16 games last season, and that was with an injury and being shuffled around the midfield a bit. Ince will struggle to match the scoring rate he had at Reading last season (whenever he actually plays), but again, he should get more than the likes of Sema. Would still like some more proven goal threat mind you, as it stands we might have to hope for a hitherto unprolific or completely unproven player like Chakvetadze or Martins to chip in
