you cant say that for certain though with johnson were a far stronger side even without king as he gives us another option hes young and so will only get better and we would finally have someone who can hit a dead ball. i feel ellington and prisking with the midfield of johnson and smith plus two out of 'toole, williamson, francis and williams were a much stronger team than how we are now as its a ball on the ground fast flowing quality side. 1 player doesnt make a team never has and never will
I'll start by saying that there is NO WAY I want to lose King, but I tend to agree with pyro, especially as we do have plenty of strikers. Such as Priskin, Hendo, Ellington, and not forgetting Hoskins, Ashikodi and even the young lad on loan at Hereford, whatshisname I can't remember, is it Grant? I think that if King were to leave, at least one or two from our pool of strikers, would come out of the shadow of "The Mighty Marlon", and begin to flourish in a similar fashion to the Arsenal lads when Henry left. Not that I am claiming we would be as good as them, just that our team could blossom in a similar way. Plus Aidy would have a considerable addition to his war chest, which might be able to finance some quality defenders and possibly a "Playmaking Midfielder", which is where we are lacking in my opinion.
But they didn't leave in the middle of the season whilst their team was top of the league and making a title challenge did they? I totally agree that we need a cash + player deal though, look what happened with Ash, we had all that money and still nobody wanted to join us.
To be fair we were in a slightly different situation when Ash left, we were favourites for relegation. Whereas on this occasion we are one of the favourites for promotion, which in my opinion makes us a more attractive proposition for players, don't you think?
And if we do go up, we will once again be favourites for relegation as will the other two promoted clubs.
The WO today has Aidy insisting once again that King's not going anywhere and 4 of the clubs listed in the original post have been linked with him this week. Sources close to the player have said that Marlon feels that too much responsibility will be placed on his shoulders if Watford go up and he wants to join an established premiership side. Mahon's definitely going, but that's for another thread
We also have Henderson, Ellington, Priskin, Hoskins & Ashikodi (Ainsworth or Smith can also play upfront if needed)...or Aidy can go out in January and sign a replacement for King!
Aidy Boothroyd on interest in Ashley Young (oct/nov 06) "I've said no and there may come a time when that is a yes, but at this moment in time, that's a no. January it's a no and the end of the season it's a no." Trully shocking. :dismay::dismay::dismay::dismay::dismay::dismay::dismay::dismay::dismay:
All I can think of is the club had no inkling that such a ridiculously risky amount of money would be offered.
If last January is anything to go on I would say that Aidy CAN'T sign a replacement. He can sign some garbage but that will be all.
As we have seen, Foster, Ash and Boozer have been irreplaceable (unless you count smudge) and the saem applies to Marlon King We will not be able to replace the quality we do have and this has been proven. We couldnt bring in quality when we were in the Prem and we certainly cant do it in the Championship We lose King and we blow our shot at promotion as the rest of em aint up to it Would be a nice bit of bunce for Graham and his closest chums though eh??
I saw the title of this thread and thought Marlon had been kicking off again like he ALLEGEDLY did last year. Then again, if he was, he'd do worse than to call on Jordan Stewart. Kung-fu kicks and all.
Yes, but last January we were all but relegated! He's not going to sign any top notch players if we're heading down a division! The shoe is on the other foot this time and we look as if we're heading back up again!! We'll see come January, but until then you should quit your whining! :dismay:
Hendo's winner against Southampton. Hendo's first at Cardiff. King's goal at Palace. Just off the top of my head!
Hendos winner was set up by Mahon Hendos first at Cardiff was set up by Mahon and Johnno did set up the goal against Palace
No Hendo's SECOND at Cardiff was set up by Mahon...the first was a melee from a Johnson free-kick!! Hendo's winner against Southampton was yet again set up from a Johno free-kick!!
im pretty sure johnson set up a few goals at least, i remember aidy saying about it in the fans forum.
it was a Johnno free kick that ended up in Mahon shooting and hitting the post in which Hendo tapped it in as for the southampton one it was a Johnno free kick that was cleared and fell to Mahon who shot and it luckily fell to Henderson who tapped it in.
It was actually Demerit who hit the post at Cardiff before Hendo tapped it in, but you can hardly call that an assist!? Nor can you call Mahon's against Southampton an assist!?
I think King will jump at a chance to leave us for the prem in January after the service he got today :dismay:
Perhaps so, but I'de be a bit annoyed too if know one could play a few simple balls along the floor. I don't think he has been too commited for the past weeks though.
He spent far too much time today out wide and why was he back in the box defending all of the corners , not once was he up the pitch waiting for a quick break. You couldn't blame him for going if he gets the chance with our current form and lack of direction.
after watching him on saturday i think he should have a weekend or 2 off. maybe a sub and give duke a run out with hendo ?
