Yep. Straight down the tunnel and out of the stadium. Flores back in for round three before the clock strikes 12.
It's weird that he's only had two decent seasons in his whole career and they were both with us in the Championship and were 8 years apart. And he scored 2/3 of the league goals in his career in those two seasons. He was probably the best 17/18 year old I've ever seen. He and Chelsea made a massive mistake by him not coming back for 13/14 as his next five loans were all underwhelming.
Injured against it seems although not too bad. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sp...s/west-brom-corberan-chalobah-injury-26253886
Yeah, I’d agree with all of this, especially the bolded part. I remember bewilderment on the forum when we signed him, and I distinctly remember shoutbox outrage at sending on a defender as Zola brought him on for his debut when we were behind and chasing a goal. Within about 5 minutes he’d made everybody forget any doubts. Such composure and confidence on the ball under pressure, playing in tight spaces and working the ball out. That goal at Leicester is easily one of the best Watford goals I’ve ever seen. A hit cleaner than a stripper’s bumhole. If he’d come back to us the following season, I think his career trajectory might have been very different, assuming he’d have been able to avoid the injuries that have plagued him since that early spell under Silva where he was looking as close to the early Chalobah as I’ve seen since that season under Zola.
Going to be interesting where we are before we play, Sheff Utd's blip in form continues as Millwall take our playoff place. Deserved too, great goal.
Very different position on the field, of course, but 17-year-old John Barnes was quite something as well. But yes, Chalobah's silky skills at 17 promised international fame. But, maybe more than the loans (?), I think that knee injury nearly did for his career. Such a shame.
Once upon a time a long time ago, we actually did go 3 - 0 down against WBA in something like 20 minutes. At The Hawthorns, mind. But this was under G Taylor, who had a magic touch in such situations, and the final score was 4 - 4. And Brom were a tad fortunate. The game was also memorable for a snow and ice covered pitch and probably should have been abandoned.
Well I've been looking on the bright side recently but if we're going to make a decent "push" this season I think it has to start now.... 2-1. Two deflected mis-hit goals from Gaspar in first 20 minutes, they pull one back in the 90th minute, then miss a penalty in the 93rd with Gaspar sent off for the rugby tackle....
Agreed. Never seen a debut like it. For the reserves and perhaps time plays tricks on the little grey cells but I'm certain Digger scored almost from the kick off. We all looked at each other and thought " we've something special here". Yes I agree the injury finished NC.
I was there! Freezing night. Great match. 3-0 down and 4-1 down. The only time I've sung "we're goin to win 5-4... " etc and actually thought it could be true.
Just a little too young for Barnes at 17! Chalobah had never hit the heights of that first season with us, even before the injury. Just had a succession of loans where he was a bit part player. Really looked like he could've done it all after that season, was astonishing to see a kid that young that could pass, tackle and popped up with five goals. Could tell from his celebration with Zola at Leicester that he was the perfect manager for him at the time too but money talks and Chelsea packed him off elsewhere the following season...
I like the sound of a 2-1 win with 0 shots on target 31% possession and 1 touch in the opposition penalty area. So for me Watford 2 (o.g16, o.g.37) WBA 1 (Bachmann o.g 90 , WBA missed pen 90+4)
I was there also. Nearly walked out when Bob Taylor made it 3-0 early on. Glad I didn’t! 2 Colin Foster goals?
Thanks for posting that. Happy days (or, at least, happy second half). You can see players struggling to manoeuvre on the icy patches. Did the commentator get paid for his efforts? If so it was too much.
So was I. Zoomed out of work, picked up my daughter and made it to the ground just in time. Had trouble getting them to accept a card at the turnstile, sat down literally on the whistle, watched them go three down in 20 mins and thought 'ah!'....
Yes. Chelsea, like several of the big clubs, have a habit of hoovering up all the promising talent and then not knowing what to do with it.
Sadly it’ll most likely be another unknown manager in the Xisco mould who’ll get a few months before the players once again down tools.
I remember the 4-4 score very well, but I wasn’t there. I was at school at the time and my best supported Chelsea, and his dad took us to see Chelsea Vs Man City that evening. Ruud Gullit scored a screamer, and it was when the mesmerising Georgi Kinkladze played for City. The memory of seeing the 4-4 score at the end of the game on the monitors on the concourse is etched in my memory though.
Our season will be defined here in 90 minutes. Win this and we may push on to make the playoffs. Lose and we look to next season. Regardless of personal opinions whether we are ready for the PL or not I want the team to win but this will be no easy feat.
