Didn't watch Norwich vs Brighton match, read reports or anythings. But just saw Farkes interview after the match saying that his team is not relegated ,but realistically it was their last chance of getting into the mix. Once the manager has given up hope on survival surely it's only a good thing. Apparently a few took to just sitting on the grass sulking after the match too. Another plus. Like doing a little stat work. Norwich have only scored once in the first half all season. We've kept 5 clean out of 9 at home under Pearson. This and that they've downed tools publicly is giving me a glimmer. I will still back Norwich to make sure we get the result.
Deeney has turned from talisman to a hex. He was never blessed with pace which is fine but he was good with smart movement and some agility to compensate. He's stopped moving and lost the latter as well, whilst over relying on his raw strength and decent aireal ability which leaves us too one dimensional. Look at the difference Welbeck made against Chelsea; he got a good shot off on target and nearly set up Hughes. We missed that dynamism and movement to worry defenders. I do think Deeney should be moved on this year as he's becoming too big for the club in his head whilst his performances have simply been shocking for the most part barring 4 or 5 games. Our defence hasn't had a major investment since 2016, barring Femenia, Masina and Dawson during 2017, 18 and 19 respectively but those don't address the glaring issues at CB. All 3 are find as supplements but not as the big arrivals. Cathcart has fallen off a cliff this Season after being Mr Reliable for so long whilst Dawson to his credit has grown during the break whilst Kabasele remains our only CB with good acceleration if error prone. Our central midfield carried our poor defence and attack last year papering the cracks we are seeing this year and contributed massively to our usual post Christmas slump as they are cannot cover it again. Capoue who looked decent to good and has outshone Doucoure regularly since 2018 has fallen off a cliff since the restart hasn't helped. I think financially we will be fine should we go down and our owners are no fools nor here to make a quick buck with a lot of infrastructure work done and a lot of excellent future talent finding. (We can sell Sarr, Doucoure, Capoue, Deulofeu, Deeney, Janmaat and a few others should we need to and still have a decent Championship squad on paper) The issue is there has been too much neglect with the current squad thinking they could squeeze out another year on the cheap and it's finally caught up with us. I would want to see a more dynamic team vs Norwich to stretch their weak defence so we stand a chance: Foster Femenia - Dawson - Kabasele - Masina Chalobah - Hughes Sarr - Doucoure - Pedro Welbeck If we start with Deeney again I won't watch the game as we will have already decided the outcome.
Well even Doucoure says we looked better with Welbeck on.. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...city/?action=success#comments-feedback-anchor
Haha I just read that. I expect him to be dropped now for that with Deeney starting. How dare he express what every supporter witnessed too.
I honest can't see Nate or Pedro starting. Even though I like the look of selections. I wouldn't even mind Holebas starting on the left. He can deliver a good cross on occasions and will certainly throw his body on the line.
It was clear last game Pearson's plan was to sit back and try and grab a 0-0. If he does the same against Norwich and starts Deeney he can do one.
Norwich have looked there for the taking on the counter in recent weeks. 442 with Gray/Welbeck up front. I'd actually start Pedro on the left as well for the pace. Doucs/Hughes in CM.
This. Big Nige seems wedded to his one supposed tactical innovation of playing Doucoure in what is effectively an unintelligent number 10 role, but has he actually been that much more effective or improved our or his own performances whilst there? Initially, it might have given us a bit of an energy boost, although it's hard to say given the whole team had picked up having been freed from Quique's shackles, but he's always looked most effective going both ways from central midfield, including when he came on the other day, if I'm not mistaken. Add that to the fact that he can't shoot for **** at this point, and he's certainly not picking/spraying passes from the position, and what is the argument against putting him back where he belongs alongside Hughes or Capoue?
Foster Femenia - Kabasele - Cathcart - Masina Chalobah - Hughes Sarr - Doucoure - Welbeck Deeney Gray My choice. I'd be confident that we would boss the game with this team. Doucoure wouldn't have to bomb forward so much with the other 4 in attack and on song, he can help out Hughes and Chalobah. I would give Deeney another chance because with Gray and Welbeck and Sarr around him he has no excuses not to lay it off to someone. Convert the chances we would get by around the 70 mins subs time because all the recognised strikers are starting. Alas, I am not expecting Pearson to pick that team. (I've not seen enough of Pedro so wouldn't be prepared to roll that dice in such an important game. I've left Capoo out to start as we don't need to give away silly fouls around our box. And I just don't like Dawson at CB).
Foster Femenia - Kabasele - Cathcart - Masina Chalobah - Doucoure - Hughes Sarr - Gray - Welbeck After confidently saying we can boss the game with 12 players earlier... I'd have to go with a 4-3-3 and without Deeney with the players we have. Try to move the ball quicker when we get it on the break, create some chances, and get some goals. In reality, expect Deeney to start in a 4-2-3-1.
A bit of team news, which is good for us. Todd Cantwell is definitely out for tomorrow after tweaking a hamstring.
Quite like the idea of 4-3-3 but would prefer Welbeck in the middle in which case I would like to see Pedro or Pussetto instead of Gray. Must win game is over used in my opinion but it is very apt for this one. Villa or Bournemouth are going to get a surprise win somewhere so we must win this plus it puts Villa and Bournemouth under pressure to get something when they play later in the week against Man Utd and Spurs
Todd Cantwell is out for the game tomorrow. Massive for us. https://www.canaries.co.uk/News/2020/july/team-news-watford-norwich-city-premier-league/ Honestly, if we don't win tomorrow then we truly deserve to go down.
Thank you. So he's somewhere between a very large rock and an Olympic sprinter. Certainly narrowed it down!
I think this is the key point - if we can't win this game, we should not be in the league. No ifs, no buts.
They were just showing their disappointment and that they care, I think. It compares with our players having a joke with each other as they walk off following yet another loss.
For some reason he hasn't been starting for them recently. Agreed though it's good news for us he is a very good player, I have been really impressed with him this Season, I think Norwich will have a few offers for him in the summer. On a side note I think they will probably lose quite a few player, I know what they have done regarding transfers is sensible but they have never really gave themselves a chance of staying up, if I was a Norwich City player I would probably be questioning the Clubs ambition and aspirations.
