The ball was played to the burton player, then the ref blew for HT, then the burton player got annoyed and kicked it in the goal.

As for Deeney and Ighalo, I felt they both played ok actually, but they are becoming too similar in that they do their best work with their back to goal. They could both still do a decent job, but need someone like Sinclair (possibly) or Success (if he can be effective down the middle) maybe Okaka ( not seen enough to know his best abilities and areas.

Me and my 10 year old daughter enjoyed our day out anyway and saw a win.

Pants miskicked straight to a Burton player, the referee blew his whistle immediately for half time, and the player put the ball in the net after the event.........so it was a bit of a lucky break that the whistle went. From my view it looked like it went in, but either way, it would have been a good chance given away and we were saved by the referee's time keeping.

It's the only thing that anyone has picked up on over the entire report, so by conclusion the rest is pretty much accurate as no one has challenged it. Plenty don't like it, but then they don't like having their rose tints smeared I guess.

A depressing win, just to quantify the meaning for you. It's a game where you get absolutely no satisfaction from the performance, other than the result. Burton played a poor game against us, even their manager admitted he got it wrong. Strangely blaming 3-5-2 as the problem.

We won, and once again everything in the garden is rosy for some. I liked Mason's performance, and it was nice to see an academy product do well......although I see the coach taking credit, but we all know he's only got his chance because of the injuries. Doucoure's come in, and has equally taken his chance.......hmmm....wonder why he's not featured before now.

We won because we faced a side who were sufficiently poor enough for us to beat. We were slow, laboured, ponderous throughout the game. Only a couple of quality moments were provided by players that wouldn't have been anywhere near the first team under normal circumstances.

Next week, when a Premier League team turns up to play us, let's see how well we do then......as if we don't already know.

I'm just joking. I am probably with you. Today's game is pretty irrelevant and the Boro game is huge. Looks like the board are sticking with Wally through baring a further 3 games lost on the bounce though.

To be honest, it was a dissapointing result. We're still in the cup which we could do without at the moment. A loss would have given us move leverage on Gino's wallet.

The sooner Ighalo farks off, the better. Bottling tackles and applying minimal effort...the bloke is an absolute waste of a shirt.

Kabasele at wing back works well.

You seem to be an expert in siege mentality, as if the whole forum are against you. I think most agree that we are in a sorry state at the moment. However, you have not answered me from my previous point, except to say you like ****.

    1. What were you expecting today?
    2. What was it about the performance that so disappointed you?
    3. Who would you have played instead of Deeney and Ighalo. (who did seem pretty inefectual)

  9. hornetboy1

    hornetboy1 First Team Captain

Well you started talking about **** so I didn't read the rest of your points.

    1. I got exactly what I expected.
    2. Read my match report.
    3. Deeney and Ighalo

Not sure why you've even raised your points though. I was expecting us to be poor and to have this confirmed disappoints me. I have no problem with picking Deeney and Ighalo, but their form is depressingly poor. I've not given up on these guys though and rate them highly......even though most of the rest of the forum gives them plenty, constantly telling them to f*** off, which I find disgraceful.......but then I represent the minority view apparently.

Sometimes I think some members look who has written a post and immediately read it in a negative way.

I'm no fan of HB1 and i'm pretty sure that that works the other way as well. Most of the time we have totally different opinions on most matters. You can probably count on two fingers how many times we have replied to each others posts in the last year or so. I briefly read his posts and then move on. I guess he does the same to mine ( its ok he won't be reading this !! :naughty: )

There is nothing wrong with his post or summary at all. Its his opinion as he has seen it and from what i can see is pretty accurate. Jumping on every single post and nit picking knowing you are going to get a reaction is ruining every single thread. Its becoming pointless reading further than the first reply to HB1

Seriously if you don't like what he posts either add him to your ignore list or skip what he writes.

There you go again. Stop playing the martyr. Let me state what I thought was wrong. The lack of movement up front and the long balls to Ighalo and Deeney, probably caused by the lack of movement.

Your match report is just a whinge about Mazzari. Burton were poor but you can't use that as a stick to beat the team with.

Maybe you'll answer a re phrased question. What would have made you happy about the team's performance?

  13. Jumbolina

    Jumbolina First Team

I thought HB's post today was a reasonable point of view as well. However when it comes to ruining threads he is the one poster involved in constant long arguments on every match thread so to blame the numerous other posters involved for that is ridiculous.

  14. hornetboy1

    hornetboy1 First Team Captain

You've actually agreed with my summary, so I don't know why you're asking such questions, as my answers will probably be in line with your own opinion anyway.

But I will answer your rephrased question. I was happy to see Mason do well, I was happy with the "moment" provided by Sinclair and I was happy with the energy given by Doucoure.

I want to see a greater tempo to the game. 3-5-2 does not work for us, and Burton made the same mistake today and change the system which clearly did not work for them either. It's one of those systems that looks good in theory and can work for the top sides, so is seductive to coaches. The reality is it gives the opposition so much space on the flanks and puts your defence under way too much pressure.

We need to be moving ball around quicker, creating chances. We all know when the team is playing well, or has the potential too. Right now games are just a waste of time. It's just predictable, boring, uninspiring and really difficult to see how we will improve.

I somewhat agree with you, but the trigger seems to be the silly nit picking of his initial post, which he then replies to.

As soon as he relies to the nit picking it starts to go down hill pretty rapidly. No nit picking = no reply = a nicer place to be

Hey don't have a go at him........we cannot have squabbles between other forum members.

If you really read the threads I'm involved in, you'll find it's actually a debate. Not an argument. I'm happy to keep that up for as long as anyone wants to. If I'm asked a question I'll answer it.

I think too many are a bit precious on here, and it's taken a bit too seriously at times.

Just enjoy the chat. If someone posts a lot.....so what. Everything I write has truth in it, but the problem is, people don't really like that. They feel the club is being knocked or whatever. When things are not going well, you have to have discussion about it.

If I thought the coach was on the right track, I'd be defending him. If I thought the team were playing well, I'd be praising them.

Thanks. Why didn't you write something like that in the first place?

Something like 'I'm glad we won but I'm still not happy with the movement,' takes less typing and doesn't wind most of us up.

Bad bad luck for their new striker - getting clattered by big Pants and probably breaking ribs by the sounds of it.

Worrying that Kabasele seems to do a Hitler moustache and salute as his goal celebration. Any chance we could be kicked out of the cup and fined for that?

Frankly the forum seems pointless if people cannot disagree with him on the grounds of his persistent replies.

I think his posts are well made (if verbose). However when he says things I disagree with I am going to reply and I think he's fine with that.

I think your assessment of todays game was spot on. Burton were absolute ****e and we huffed and puffed and played the same old crap. Deeney and Ighalo were played clearly to get them firing again, and offered nothing yet again. Funny how we do create something when players run at defences instead of passing it sideways and backwards at a snails pace.

Positives - Doucoure (apart from the few wayward passes), Kabasele, Mason, and Sinclair in the 2nd half. A clean sheet.

Negatives - Cathcart going off injured, Watson not getting a look in, and the defence still looking very dodgy on crosses into the box.

However, a wins a win, and we're in the hat for the next round. But lets not kid ourselves - Burton were awful, and we were a bit less crap than them.

Forgot to add another positive - the fact that Dja Djedje does actually exist, and looks as if he can play football reasonably well (lets hope he's not picked up a "strain.")

Deeney and Ighalo did ok. Deeney very much captain, sorting out positions and giving Mason and the like encouragement, Ighalo was tricky and somewhat unlucky, if he gets a goal he may go on to get another 10. Mason was very encouraging, Doucoure was slightly in and out the game but did well when in. Capoue was ok, Sinclair grew into it, hes got skill and pace and I think I'll reassess my initial opinion of him as not a premiership player, he's got potential. Defence all good and they really only got a couple of crosses in early second half. They are a championship team after all, so who expected them to not threaten at any point? Idiots that's who.

For the record the ref blew before pants miskicked and their player didn't put it in, he missed.

We may not have driven through as much as id have liked. The ball often going to pants before necessary. But we controlled that game for mostly 90 minutes and 352 meant Mason and Kabasele were the free men in attack.

So anything that focusses on it being boring, poor, uninteresting and negative, without accepting it wasn't all bad is just talking drivel.

FA reportedly looking it on whether Pants miss kick was before or after whistle and whether Burton player did or didn't put it into the net. Possible they will make us replay the game according to twitter.

I bet you my house, my car and my missus that he doesn't get another ten goals this season. He's a one trick pony who has been rumbled and his effort levels resemble his ability levels.

I didnt put a timescale on the 10 goals.

Point is, he need the confidence of a goal.

Yes that was very nasty. Pants seemed very concerned.I also liked the way he gave his shirt to a fan and posed for a picture after the game. Maybe his final game? I hope not I like him.

My counter to that is we can only beat what's in front of us.

Yes you can focus on the negatives, like Deeney and Ighalo misfiring, however there were some positives.

Mason, Dja Djedje and Doucoure getting more minutes in the legs.

Sinclair scoring which will help his confidence.

Clean sheet and in the hat for the next round.

    We did enough to win.

So onwards to Boro, which is a more important game.

I also thought Deeney did OK again. He's not setting the world alight, but that is unlikely in a misfiring team (and I just don't understand the negativity about him on here). As far as I can see he never stops working and agree a good captain - in the quite quiet 1st half in front of me in SEJ you could hear him talking to Mason a lot.

    My thoughts on the match:

Mason MOTM. Exciting to watch and showed bags of potential. I really hope he isn't forgotten about when our injury crisis is over

Docoure and kabelese also impressed me. I really like kabesele and have done for a while. Not the finished article by any means, but at 25 we need to keep him given our ageing squad. I predict he'll end up at a top side in a couple of years.

I was shocked to see how much of a midget brice djedje was, but he's fast and another player who could come good.

Sinclair was ok, but I am not wholly convinced by him. Brilliant goal, but Deeney would have killed him had he missed! He doesn't look like he's much fun to play with. My gut feeling remains that he's not gonna make it with us. Hope I'm wrong tho.

Ighalo remains rank. Deeney at least looked like a captain, if not a goal scorer.

I know there is talk of 4 new signings but a striker and creative midfielder are utterly essential. We were crying out of these players this time last year too though, and we ended up with mario suarez and amrabat...

Burton reminded me of everything i hate about the championship. God I hope we stay up

Accrington Stanley? Who are they? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

So a flop and the best player at our club by a distance. Not too bad of a return.

  32. Relegation Certs

As good as amrabat is, he's not a striker and that's what we were crying out for then, and are crying out for now. QSF bought him claiming he was a striker if you remember.

He needs to start applying himself properly. He shirks challenges and passes runners on without any sort of challenge. If you are lazy then in the end you get found out - ask Sordell.

He did, I forgot about that. I take your point. Quique had interesting views on things didn't he...

  35. You are honest to your emotions, but not to the facts. You watch a game but only recognise in it what suits your opinion, like your description of the game above, particularly in how you describe the failure of Burton convert the chances they created as if they were unfortunate, and suggest that the only moments of quality were the two goals we scored.

Your opinions are fair and insightful, showing us how a negative view will see things, but again, by saying you tell it honestly, you are missing the point that your opinion is not reality, it is merely how you see it, and at the moment it is very subjective to your dislike of Walter as a head coach.

I don't think anyone will take your occasional aside that you hope he works out seriously, because you have made it clear that you are incapable of giving the guy any credit.

Not a bad game yesterday, and though it was a strong side, we still got yet another injury early on, which can't be blamed on Walter, we still had to field a front line that would not be playing if Success and Okaka were fit.

Another significant improvement on the last few weeks. I am feeling Much more confident now.
