Have to say I was distraught yesterday and barely spoke to anyone when I got home. Today I feel more objective, yes we lost due to another inept ref, yes he bottled many decisions and yes it still hurts to know we could/should have gone up but for the ref and Jenny saves. However if you had offered me this chance and the play offs after 10 games of the season I would have bitten your hand off. If you offered me 3rd place against a team we have beaten home and away in the play offs after the brighton away game, I would have taken it. We have come a long way and try to remember as I am now, it's actually rewarding to know we are disappointed with missing out on automatic now! I certainly never imagined I'd feel that way 6 months, 1 year or 2 years ago.
^^^ I didn't say it wasn't a booking, just that there was no contact at all - yet Brown was rolling around the floor clutching his leg like it had been broken.
Apparently we can be a bit intimidating. For example Frankie Fielding named us as the most intimidating set of fans when he was in front of the Rookery. Can't speak about the reaction when Ince was here but for Poleon, well may be because we thought he was responsible for knocking out our goalie and booed him and called him all the names under the sun, it got to him. I dunno but I'll tell you something, people say we have one of the quietest sets of fans in this league (which we do), but surely that's hyped if we can rile up players like that to react like that?
Now you mention that I also remember Beckford having a little something to say about us on Twitter if I remember correctly. No-one likes us... (nah maybe not)
Have deliberately avoided posting my thoughts immediately following the game for fear the emotion would take over. In brief: - I was 100% confident of auto promotion going into the game - even with Almunia out I still had faith in a positive result - only when Bond was carried off did I start to thnk it might not be our day - nerves got to too many of the team - although individuals did well we didn't put in our usual team performance - I was disappointed with the atmosphere given the sell out. Too many prawn sandwiches not contributing? - Anya was my man of the match - Deeney still my POS (hope he doesn't become the new whipping boy) - Feel for Bonham (ditto above re whipping boy) - Hope we can regroup quickly and positively - Glory hunters welcome at the play offs on condition they sing up for the lads - We might be the underdogs but that seems to suit us COYH
As a result of a domestic misunderstanding, which was clearly my fault, we never got to record the game yesterday, although she managed to record the last 15 mins of the hull game!! Despite being at the game yesterday with my boy (and yes we were subject to foul mouth abuse from Leeds ***** as we walked past their coaches) and having the most amazing 2hrs of the season i want to relive it all again...so, any ideas how to get the game on catch-up or any websites? We're on Virgin with full sky package. I don't really want Hornets Player, unless you can subscribe for a one-off just to get yesterday? Can't wait for next Sunday...oh, and finally, a word about our fans...as a squaddie (based at Northwood HQ) and a bit of a travelling nomad i can't say enough good things about how we've been welcomed as new hornet fans. As a new regular in the LRS its like i've been here all my life, thanks guys...and Stu, in LRS3E...my boy thought it was ace when you picked him up and spun him around when Abdi scored!!! COYH!!!
When is the Rookery appearing in the next The Real Football Factories series........ I do hope next season we apply pressure on referees behind the scenes a la Ferguson. Zola has been too much of a gentleman to make anything of some of the shocking decisions we have had.
Cheer up mate. Whatever happens it will be a thrill ride and look at this way slowly but surely everything is coming into place. Other clubs have failed at the first hurdle only to make it the following season. We have despite some errors made great progress on and off the pitch and who knows an extra season may actually be beneficial in the long term. Zola will no longer be a Championshop greenhorn and several members of what is a young squad will have the invaluable experience under their belts. We can do it.
I think Brentford have proved tonight that missing the automatics in excrutiating circumstances, need not be terminal!
We're the best team in the playoffs, by a country mile. On our day we'll beat Palace, Brighton or Leicester. Everyone will fear us. We will win.
Glad to hear you had a good time. One bit of advice I was given by Mum was "Leave what you hear at the football, at the football." if you're concerned about idiots.
I mentioned the same on another thread. They took that adversity and came back fighting, credit to the management and players for doing that because if anything the manner of them missing out was worse than ours. I pray GFZ, the staff and players go into these games knowing they have a great chance to right the wrongs of Saturday and grab this chance to prove what they're capable of.
I have it on good authority that Danny Dyer is terrified of the Rookery and refuses to venture beyond the Bill Mainwood Programme Hut. #itk
Thought I was over the result on Saturday until I came back on here today and caught up with a few other threads. In fact, the result is probably the only thing I've accepted. Arguments about Poleon pushing Anya are ridiculous. He clearly did, had he not a smaller collision was inevitable and more than likely to have resulted in a less serious injury. I don't wish any career threatening injury on the little p.rick but should be held totally responsible for his actions. Also, the Deeney yellows? Booking him for kicking the ball away when it had already been going on and continued after yet no action was taken? Also "the tackle", he didn't jump in from what I saw and was about a foot away from Michael Brown, who isn't exactly the most honest man on the pitch is he? Was also surprised to see how many stayed for the standard end of season walk around the pitch after too. I think this will help lift spirits and move on to the next step. Also, a great reception for the Pozzos as they walked by The Rookery. Duxbury clearly looked as gutted as everyone else in the stands.
Hehe.....Just for you Malteser...... .
I've not been terribly well so have avoided upsetting myself by coming on here to relive Saturday. I did, however, have an absolutely incredible 2 hours. The factors out of our hands played out in a fashion that you couldn't write, and along with everyone else I was sure we'd grab that goal to take us up. To be fair to Kenny, he made a great double save, and before that his save to deny Vydra's deflected effort was brilliant. Leeds, I thought, were a disgrace. Niggly challenges, play acting, time wasting. They truly did meet the expectations of them being scumbags, and that Poleon should be ashamed. All in all though I think we lost it ourselves rather than Leeds winning it. They didn't have to work for their goals and we were better the whole match. Didn't think we played especially badly, but it looked a little flat and nervous at times. Onwards and upwards!
