Good point in context, they should have been 3-0 up at half time Femenia changed the game, MOTM for me Masina is painful to watch, reminds me of some of the brainless full backs we had in the old championship days, like Carl ****inson Gray was poor overall but continues his habit of scoring crucial late goals We really missed Deeney tonight, think we’d have won with him up against their CBs Capoue and Doucoure both getting first half bookings is really annoying and not for the first time it’s hobbled our midfield somewhat for the remainder of the game Really need Arsenal to win tomorrow now
Hasenh*ttl is a good manager. He’s new to the league & grabbed a messy changing by the scruff of the neck.
Fair play - it felt like a loss on some level. And not on another. Obviously my statto title could be rescinded as we obviously didn't lose. In my defence... I blame the wine for that post! I've sneakily changed my post so I don't look like such a fool*! * insert your own word
Agree with this. It was hard to see where our bad play ended and their excellent tactics to negate us began. We can look at Capoue, who most agree played well, but he wasn't able to make anything happen in attack. There simply wasn't any space between their midfield and defence for us to work the ball. Giving away an early goal obviously made it a massive uphill struggle too, however Southampton made the better of the first half and probably should have been 3 or 4 up. People criticise Javi, but he changed it at half time and we came out and nullified their threat. If he hadn't, we'd have lost today, probably 2 or 3 nil. We had a lot of players on an off day, but Southampton gave us no time and forced errors. Pereyra, Delofeou and doucoure all tried stuff but nothing was coming off, making us look bad. Southampton looked a very decent outfit to me, jist lacking thar final quality, very much like us, in many ways. Let's not forget how long they've been in the top flight and how they've consistently reinvented themselves. It's disappointing that stupid errors are starting to cost us now, because of we just miss out on 7th because of them, it would be a harsh reward for a historic season,
Someone on this forum, probably a younger person, showed me how to delve into the labyrinthine world of vowel modification. I’ll be sad when Pr*dl leaves. Spoiler alert. You hold your digit slightly longer on the key & a whole GoT runic smorgasbord appears!
So.. this will probably start a forum fight, but guess who is man of match of the BBC website https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47505641
Unfortunately the centre backs have been making stupid errors all season between them despite playing well as a unit. If you go budget then you get caught out over a long season unfortunately. How might we have done with some minor summer investment in 2018? Pozzo’s gonna budget.
In all seriousness, we were swamped in the first half by their midfield in the usual 4222 with their 4 in their 541 tucking in very narrow to swamp Doucs and Capoue. Even when changing to 352 at half time the legs weren’t there from Hughes to support both. Could’ve done with the energy of a fit Cleverley this evening.
Got away with just being 1/0 down at half time - hopefully our back line are getting their mistakes out the way ! Just didn't click up front due to lack of movement or ability to control the ball. Southampton defended well too in all fairness . Still good finish by Gray .
I do think they'll lose, but had we won tonight and Wolves lose as I expect tomorrow then Saturday's game would have had less riding on it and a draw would probably have done us very nicely. Now it's just as much in Wolves hands - more so in fact - than ours.
Deulofeu and Pereyra continue to be either selfish, blinkered or downright thick. What the hell was he playing at leaving that ball for a throw in in the last few minutes. Gray makes good runs but only gets spotted / a decent ball a couple of times a game.
With Holebas injured it's nice to see the others in solidarity with him by collecting 5 bookings between them.
After Southampton scored in 6 seconds the writing appeared to be on the wall. Had they maintained a tempo of scoring every 6 seconds we would have lost 900-0. But we didn't. And a 1-1 draw is far preferable to a 900-0 defeat. So I will take this point and carry on.
A future quiz question which premiership team let in two goals in one minute of play! Answer us Huddersfield and tonight!
I’m no fan of Gray but I felt sorry for him tonight. The other players and the coaching staff must know by now that he is incapable of receiving the ball with his back to goal in the way Deeney can. So it’s pointless playing the ball up to him in that way. They have to find an alternative style to suit him and that is playing through balls in front of him to run on to. This was only tried a couple of times and each was cut out by the defenders. The rest of the time it was the usual insistence on starting all moves from the defence, passing the ball around a bit and then getting bored/closed down and playing it long in the air.
What a difference a goal makes. If you add the goal we conceded at Huddersfield to the start of tonight's game, I reckon that's 2 goals conceded in just 10 seconds of play.....impressive stuff. I was a little concerned over our ability to create chances with no Deeney or Holebas in the side, and my concerns were well founded. Let's be honest, we were sh1t tonight. We saw where we are lacking, and without Deeney our forward play lacks any focus. He's not prolific of course, but he holds the ball up and brings in others into the game. Without that we lacked any real quality. You cannot moan about lack of effort. Our players do try (apart from Gerry who just gave up tracking back when they had a counter-attack), but they all put a shift in. It's just frustrating to see all those moments which should produce goals fail with a heavy touch from Gray or an over indulgent piece of play from Deulofeu or Pererya. We are a good side though, in parts. Even when we're crap we are resilient. We rode our luck in the first half but Gracia sorted it out at half time. It felt like a good point in the end, from a game we just had to win in order to finish 7th. Of course 7th is not over, but we will now need to beat Wolves and West Ham in order to achieve it. It's going to be a lot harder now, but still a bit easier than beating City in the final. I'll be hoping Arsenal will do us a favour tomorrow at Wolves, but we all know they won't. I thought Kabs played really well and was my MotM. Of course Foster played is usual high level performance and made some very good saves. Like I said, what a difference a goal makes. That late finish giving us a point, has ensured this performance will be glossed over and a feeling of relief and satisfaction replaces the feeling of frustration and annoyance.
So happy with a draw at the end we were shocking at times. Southampton could have been 3 up at half time. Kabasele was a liability throughout and Cathcart had a terrible game. Gray ran around and couldn’t control the ball, Doucoure forgot how to pass properly, deulofeu tried too hard and Masina loves to commit to a slide tackle. Lucky to draw Southampton were much better than us on the night. Motm for me was Masina for the greatest dive I’ve ever seen
Yep. Gravy did well to change it I think and although it was never pretty, I thought we were worth a point, albeit 3-0 at half time would not have flattered Saints. Once again great spirit and endeavour from us,perhaps the frequency of games has impacted on us. Certainly Saints were impressive in the first half and JWP put in numerous good crosses. Unusual Fanta experience post match.I've no idea what flavour it was.I was bamboozled by the choice in Urmi Stores and selected a Polish version that may or may not have been hemlock. Time will tell. Poor of Saints fans to steal a Spurs song I thought. Get your own arts programme!
