    I like Man City.
They were well supported in their darkest days and those fans that stuck with them desrve the team they have now.
Most of all I like that they're a nail in the coffin of Liverpool's ambitions to become a big club again.

The other day I noticed that one of my socks had a slightly wider elasticated band at the top than the other one. I can't remember whether it was the left or the right one but, seeing as socks are 'foot neutral', that's an entirely superfluous issue. Obviously they weren't a matching pair though and I must have committed the cardinal sin of failing to adequately supervise myself and lost concentration when taking them off the dryer. The fact that nearly all of them are black and I might have just cracked open a second bottle of claret were probably contributory factors.

    So should I:

    1. Try and put the whole sorry episode behind me and try to carry on somehow?

    2. Man up, raid the sock draw immediately and address the situation head-on in carpe diem fashion? Or ...

    3. Go to the pub, contemplate the whole unfortunate saga as best I can, and await further instruction?

    Option 4 Kelso:

    Buy Babolat tennis socks.

They are helpfully marked 'L' and 'R' for us dimwitted tennis players!

    Now go to the pub!

I would recommend you getting socks with L & R written on them in the future.
Further, you could buy your underpants from C & A for the same reason! ;)

Funny that,I was speaking of the demise of C&A this morning!

Having said that there is an ironmongers in Harpenden by that name I believe.

I wonder if they have one in Manchester?

Fair enough. But I'm still struggling with the bandwidth issue. Draw/drawer* b.t.w.

Mmmm. Contemplating all this feedback. Whatever will the 'Blue Mooners' make of us? If their problem's 'mooning' however then some y-front instructional advice has already been offered.

    It's only Tuesday.

Pretty sure I lent him my souped but street legal RD 350 to shoot back to get a forgotten item from his digs pre race (although it could've been his mechanic that went). Peter Sutcliffe's lad Ralph was among my best mates and between them they knew everyone bike.

I think it is usual that the elasticated band on one sock may be further stretched than the other, usually this will be with the favoured leg, like having a stronger grip with your favoured writing hand. If they are all indeed black then I would be less worried about pairing them precisely assuming they are of a similar length or at least you are wearing long trousers to cover any anomalies.

It is understandable that mis-matched socks are sometimes paired with those of a similar design, however I have never solved the odd sock conundrum. How is it possible to put 8 socks (4 matching pairs) into a machine and seemingly only retrieve 7, thus leaving 1 odd sock, and with sufficient frequency to constantly have 10 - 12 odd socks at any given time. Baffling. It's like the Bermuda triangle of the clothing world.

In response to your options I would say that 1 would be the usual response but will not solve the issue, 3 is the better solution as long as you can discuss the matter with like minded individuals.

I wish you luck, please feedback any advances you make.

Then two away games till Arsenal on October 14th, which is going to mean a 2 month gap since seeing Watford live :(

Sorry to report that the Harpenden C&A - the self-styled 'walk-through' store - is also long, long gone.
But you can still sometimes see Mick Harford shuffling along the high street and kicking the odd passer-by...

We'll score first, they'll get 2 in the second half.

Headlines will be about plucky Watford and City's resilience and how they struggled to get going after their long trip on Wednesday
