Watford FC 0-3 Burnley - 23/11/2019

  1. Haha - it's amazing how you forget these moments until you see a list!!!

It'd be funny if it wasn't awful.

The best part is that, Gray, for example, will collect probably 50k this week, despite doing less today than I would have done.

    A question.

Why shouldn't we have a really bad season now and again given that we're one of 14 'also rans' living in the rarified atmosphere of the 'greatest league in the world'? Did any of you really think that we were immune to that and that at least another eleven clubs would always do worse than us on a consistent basis? If you did think that then I'd suggest you really do need to 'wake up and smell the coffee'.

We are a small town (100kish pop.) with, admittedly a bit of a reach into NW London and other towns in Herts in competition with the bigger London clubs. But if you think that should now qualify us to mix it with the 'big boys' on a permanent basis then I'd suggest you should 'get real'.

That will never happen. Your 'cross to bear' having come to our football club via whatever personal route will always be a 'roller coaster' of ups and downs. A 'metaphor for life'. If you can accept that then you'll always be happier than if you have a 'self-entitled' agenda that denies the real world. If you can't deal with that then there are three big London clubs that would welcome your 'self-entitled' support. Or 'b.gger off' up north'.

Maybe Gino Pozzo's main motivation for having purchased our football team at a time of extremis was for familial self- agradissement. So what? This is our fifth consecutive season in 'the greatest league in the world'. Be careful what you wish for. B.t.w., my sense of perspective is also being tried this season too.

As to the seemingly sad little cabal that would seem to be ranged against me for 'telling it like it is' then feel free to perk up anytime you like. You know who you are. I've got broad shoulders bully boy gang. Been around the block a few timesm

I rarely post on here but I’m feeling very low tonight. I’ve supported Watford since I was 16 (before this age I didn’t think girls liked football) & at the ripe old age of 42 I finally make it to the top of the waiting list at the same time as being able to afford the £500+ season ticket. Today I spent 6 hours on the road to watch that utter *****. I’d rather have stayed at home and built Ikea furniture with the new husband.....we could have bought an extra ten cupboards with the season ticket money too

  5. Oddly enough after travelling 140 miles to the game on the horrible treacherous rain dreched M1, sitting through the game, getting soaked on the way back to the car and travelling 140 miles back on the horrible treacherous rain drenched M1 in the dark getting heckled at a service station (wearing my Watford shirt), I'm in a strangely happy mood.

I mean, despite the awfulness of the result and some of the awful moments of play during the game as listed by someone else above, we actually massively outplayed them. How we weren't 2-0 up at half time is beyond me and the general feel on the Rookery concourse by the bar was buoyant while we watched the unnecessarily copious amounts of replays of every moment of first half action.

Dawson going off was massive and was probably the main reason we lost IMO. He's become huge and hope not out for too long. And I find myself wondering if Deeney was brought on 5 minutes earlier before their goal could things have been different?!

I look at the table and I see we're still only 3 points off 17th. Unbelievable after our start.

There is still a lot of hope. We are playing well generally and just need to convert chances. Deeney will hopefully help that.

So not all is list at all.

On a further point, can we all take off our hats in a moment of solitude and remembrance for the poor Burnley fans at this sad time. Today was utterly desperately depressing from their side and their fans endure that every week. From the time wasting after 2 minutes, the kicking the ball away at every opportunity, the fake walking to take a throw in or free kick only to walk away for someone else to take it, the falling over and rolling around in agony every couple of minutes.

As bad as our situation is, their fans have to watch that every week and I actually found myself feeling sorry for them. Even when they were singing at 1-0 up, you could see their souls had been utterly destroyed and it was more signing for their very existence as human beings rather than enjoyment of their teams position. At least they get to stay in the Premier League I guess. Hopefully that can keep their depressing lives as Burnley football fans going... for another week at least.

Not to be outdone, the off the pitch staff seemed to be equally as inept. Service at the bar seemed to be run by a mix of people with motor neurone disease and extreme retardation.

I don’t want to state the obvious too strongly but this has always been football. Today’s winners are tomorrow’s losers. The game goes on and on and on and on. We keep playing until bankruptcy makes it impossible. That’s how it works, it’s how the game keeps us coming back for more. Of course, some will drift away on relegation but many will stay and go through the whole thing again. The good, the bad, the awful.

The game enriches the few, and always has to a degree, although today’s exponents can enjoy some terrific riches.

The only thing missing here is someone saying that the young players are the saviour, in spite of all evidence that demonstrates that young players today have the same impact on the game as they always did. The % that make it is completely unchanged and only the thought that Watford gave a disproportionate number of talented youngsters can save us from the inevitable disappointment.

Exactly, I'm afraid I've made my mind up for the time being, why should I drive a couple of hundred miles, spend 8 hours of my life and the best part of a hundred quid for me and my lad to watch this cr*p.

I've always believed in supporting and lifting the team when they're down and have done since 1972 as that's when they need us the most but I've had it with this team, coach and season. Get rid in Jan and plan for next season in the Championship. Bring on a team that want to wear our beloved shirt and I'll be back in the Vic.

I thought we were much the better team for 60 minutes, and they were lucky to be in the game when they scored. They are truly a blight on football, and some of the stuff we have served up over the years has been less than impressive, but Jesus Lueessus they are rancid!

How do you kn0w, did the players tell you at the training ground?. We had an attacking coach before this one and were still losing. We had a good recent defensive record going into this game but Dawson's injury and Kabasele's stupidity last time out meant we didn't have the personnel left to keep them out.

I would agree it was inevitable that at some point we’d have a bad season and go down. The frustrating thing about this one is that it felt avoidable. Many many people said we should be refreshing the defence, pretty much since the end of Gracia’s first season. Pozzo and Giraldi did nothing over 3 or 4 windows and here we are. In the meantime we spent £30 million on a winger who doesn’t play.

This felt very avoidable. The worry is we may well find it very hard to get back.

Every post from me on here tends to be something substantial that others might choose to engage with or not. Also interspersed with the odd one-liner.

Methinks you have, over the decades, indulged in a personal agenda on here and never had the welfare of our football club at heart along with your sad little entourage.

Methinks the mods (a position you've never aspired to) think the same.

Not sure they had a shot, never mind one on target, until they scored. You just knew it was going to be (yet another) one of those days. Promising 60 mins, goal against the run of play, confidence shot, heavy defeat.

We'll probably be relegated, but hey-ho, that's football. At least it probably won't be a relegated-on-the-last-day-of-the-season, we've got plenty of time to get used to the idea. And it might clear some of the 'entitleds' away.

But whatever division we play in, I hope we NEVER, EVER try to play football the way Burnley do. I'm not just saying that because we lost, I was saying that from two minutes in. Absolutely dreadful tactics.

I wonder if I get another email from the club this week offering me the chance to have steak and chips at the next home game for £250 and the chance to have Tommy Smith walk past me while I eat it?

Or corporate club "messages" about how Spencer Field, the marketing czar, has decided to splash a new secret, not consulted on at all, brand new logo over new merchandise attracting global interest and moving the Hornet Brand into new markets worldwide? And feck off to anybody who liked the existing badge.

Priorities this season are all over the place.

Watford are a dilemma. It depends on which side of the fence you sit as to how you perceive the strength of the squad.

I saw us as quite decent, but were punching above our weight with the players we had. A new coach seemed to get a 7 or 8 out of the majority of players for a good period of time, before they lapse into 5 or 6 performances, which contributed to the spectacular collapses in form. I suppose players got used to the coach and stopped performing at the higher level which is understandable as it's difficult to play above your own ability for a sustained period of time.

We were getting away with it every season. Who are the real Watford. Are we the side that typically starts a season, or are we the side that typically ends it.

Personally I have never been convinced that we were all that good and have been constantly surprised we ended up mid-table. Our defenders are Championship and the strike force are not sharp enough. The only thing I would consider anywhere Premier League level is the midfield, but even that is misfiring now.

The hierarchy have to take a lot of the blame. They have been complacent and have not seen this on the cards. I think a lot of fans thought the defence needed a major strengthening. The owners did not. The fans have been proved right on this though.

It's one big screw up and looks like it's fatal for this season now. We are a Championship club in waiting. Things have now got to be readjusted and the players who we think are ****, will be very good in the Championship. We will lose our so-called stardust in the summer, if not in January, and plans have to be in process, even now, for our bounce back season.

  22. I don't think it's as bad as that. I think we're maybe 3 players from a decent mid table prem side for the rest of the year.

But the side is aging so a lot of work needs to be done for next season.

He was. Wood and then Barnes got "done" by Dawson and they both then colluded and took it turns to hammer him. Both led with arms and elbows numerous times and the ref didn't see it or wouldn't.

They also tried that on Mariappa and Cathcart. Marriappa and Barnes had several long chats because of it.

Ditto Will Hughes getting clattered late repeatedly when the ball and gone.

Running across Watford players deliberately but making it look accidental.

Slowing play. Kicking the ball away even for their own free kicks in the first half to disrupt Watford's flow.

Going in late on Holebas in front of the Burnley bench first half, then abusing him to target him to provoke a reaction. Holebas fell for it.

    And so and so forth.

    Pub team and tactics..

All hardly surprising to anyone in the stadium, yet still effective against our lot, who have fallen for this every time they've come up against it, whether in the guise of Stoke or Burnley.

Burnley players get booked, but they make every one count. We get reds and yellows like confetti, but mostly for stupid fouls in stupid places.

We have terrible discipline, we aren't tough, we are terrible at dead balls (defending and attacking) we are poor in the air, we seemingly never get the rub of the green from refs, which is probably just due to our players being, on the whole, completely unlikeable and confrontational without any guile. We're just bad at everything. We're even bottom of the league for green credentials.

But, hey, let's keep the Vic full and let's engage with the start an argument with 4 worse Twitter hashtag whilst we debate the designs for a new badge, whilst our club decays around our ears.

As much as we decry Burnley's tactics and lack of being pleasing on the eye they sit in sixth yes sixth place this evening so not only have they got the better of us but have taken a few other scalps this season .
I thought we were reasonable in the first half and didn't feel remotely threatened up until the time they scored but never felt either we would get back into the game after they scored

Too many wrong decisions when approaching final third and we are not getting a kindly bounce of the ball.

    Doucoure rubbish
Delofeu some good moments but a decent striker would have buried the chances when he was well placed

    Foster flapping, not inspiring confidence

Deeney ineffectual when came on, didn't galvanise the crowd or the team

For me Flores got to go, would rather go down giving it a proper go than than limp out of the division with a whimper which seems rather likely right now.

Difficulties with traffic getting into Watford and then parking before the game not helping my mood either.

No they've given us marketing BS and simply done exactly what they wanted.

The whole point any corporate rebrand, and what they said about THIS rebrand , is to choose a strong recognisable , marketable image for, in this case Watford.

For the new world-wide fan base and to attract the new Asian nirvana, blah, blah, blah)

Did any of them say they couldn't sell yellow black and red and the club badge when they took their roles, I ask or did they make that up later?

So the current Fan ID holder elected to keep the current badge/branding.

Immediately the (piqued?) marketeers quietly announce the while the current badge will go on the new kit for next season they're putting a new, secret, not been seen yet bright shiny club logo on everything else they can think of for next season.

Totally at odds with having ONE Watford FC brand image as they said before they started all this.

Just doing what the want and justifying their existence and mission statement.

I wonder if the players have to first run their new tattoo designs past the marketing department before they get them, in case they cause social media followers to be lost in the Far East?
