It’s an election day! Don’t forget your ID.

Most contributors to this section will be fine as you can simply show your OAP bus pass, but you may know younger folk. Don’t let them be disenfranchised and remind them of what they need to do.

    Get the vote out!

The prevailing mindset amongst too many youngsters is very frustrating.

They can't be bothered because "it won't change anything".

The fact is that they are largely ignored as a cohort is because they don't vote in large numbers.

There is a reason the oldies get their triple lock pensions, winter fuel allowances etc. The politicians are scared of losing their vote.

If the youngsters used their democratic influence by voting then they would find that they would be listened to more by those in power.

    Oh well.

When youre an oldie then I’m fairly sure you’d want your pension to be protected

Didn't the polling station know that the voter ID laws are only for the plebs?

Someone was on the telebox the other day suggesting that the pension should be the same as the living wage, £23,700 a year.
I'm now of an age where a pension hike will sway my vote, so definitely up for this

That’s not an unreasonable shout (pension credit does not make up that shortfall) but the difference between rich and poor pensioners is so huge that awarding this across the board would be an odd and very costly move to make.

There is also a moderate case to be made that working people who receive that sum don’t get free travel or fuel payments and may have children. So making them effectively poorer than pensioners won’t be popular or right.

How to pay for the increase you propose? You’d have to heftily increase the tax burden on moderately well off and wealthy pensioners, one of the most effective political groupings in the Country (unless you want the burden to entirely fall on those working now). So good luck to any party taking the Mail, Express, Telegraph, Sun and every right wing commentator on with that one.

On reflection I realise I've been hooked in by more of his performative nonsense. No doubt it was a deliberate ploy on his part.

Yes, I did wonder about that. Then gets to say, it’s the same for everyone, it’s no big deal and by the way, I’m still here!
