AS (Spanish newspaper) claiming we are willing to pay up to €20m for 21-yr old Bilbao CB... https://as.com/futbol/2019/01/25/pr...xterno_rsoc=comp_tw&__twitter_impression=true
Know nothing about him a part from some comments I just saw. Apparently at some point in his career he had Diego Costa in his back pocket, until he got sent off in the 79th minute. Bilbao fans also claiming he will be the next Laporte. On that assessment alone, throw as much cash as needed, €20mil if that is in fact his release clause. Get it done Gino. Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow
Release clause is €30m and Bilbao generally don't sell players for less than their release due to how hard it is for them to recruit (they only buy players that have come from the Basque region or have Basque nationality) so unless we're willing to up our bid I can't see this happening.
Unlikely, at least during the winter window. I remember hearing that because Bilbao has this policy, and they are in a relegation fight, Berchiche just forced a transfer back INTO Bilbao (he was a youth there). He wanted to come back an help out. So unless they are now skint and need money to pay for that, I doubt that this would happen (to anywhere) until the summer at the earliest.
Quite a few Bilbao fans on Twitter are worried about the rumour at least but all say that their club should demand his buy out clause is met. Their former President apparently always insisted on it but they are worried about the motives of their new president.
Andddddd that's me done. Will get my news from reddit instead. You guys just don't know when a joke is dead.
Isn’t it pretty much a given that if the asking price is even above £15m we aren’t signing. Andre Gray saw to that.
Seems a good player, but I'd also be surprised if we would pay what Bilbao would want. It also seems surprising that Bilbao would sell, unless they really need the money to invest in other areas to help them stay up, and recognise that he is their most valuable asset currently outside of their staring XI.
I’m probably being naive (almost certainly) but I’m clinging on to Leventhal’s words that we are looking to buy a new ‘starting’ CB and I’m reading between the lines that maybe that means we are willing to finally invest a good amount.
But I doubt he baulked at the money but rather the player he was getting for that price. I imagine we would pay the going rate for any player within our reach...but obviously by starting with a now-famous low ball offer! But I tend to agree that he won’t pay this type of money on a defender. However, if he is as highly rated as being said (Bilbao fans claim he has more promise than Laporte), then Gino might see him as one of the few defenders around that we could get and make a big profit on. Won’t happen, but the logic kind of works if the story has substance.
He's only started 6 times this season for the team 14th in La Liga. We're not breaking our transfer record for that level of promise and it certainly doesn't scream out starting centre back.
That's a reasonable observation, although they look like they have have a bit more of a problem scoring goals than conceding (they are 14th for goals scored, and 12th for goals conceded). It could simply be that Núñez is third choice because he is still just 21 and they already have two equally good CBs who are more experienced than him, one of which, Ińigo Martinez, they paid €32million for last January. Perhaps Núñez was fine being a rotation player while developing, but he's probably now reached a stage where he's getting frustrated and wants to be a regular starter somewhere. Also, given their other two CBs are 24 and 27, they are also unlikely to want to be rotated and would still give Bilbao many years of service. Thus Núñez is probably the player who it makes the most sense for Bilbao to try and cash in on.
There's also a link between him and bayern munich. I'd suggest this is much ado about nothing Sent from my ONEPLUS A5010 using Tapatalk
They better get him signed up quickly, I can definitely see us paying €30m for a centre back in January...
28th of December is similar in Spain to our April fools day. El dia de los Inocentes. The day of the inocent.
We’ve allegedly failed with a loan bid for Spanish international defender Unai Núñez. He’s 23 and at Bilbao. Centre back, who has one international cap. Source..as.com
Very good player, Arsenal were linked with him a few weeks ago. Another right-footer (I think), but quality.
