Sure, they take years off your life and make your **** fall off (needs verification) but some are very tasty.

I’m going with crisps as a personal favourite.

Anyway, what is everyone’s favourite Ultra-Processed food?

Apparently, Americans get 60% of their calories from Ultra Processed Food, which, if you take into account those eating healthy, means some eat almost nothing but.

But then crisps are very tasty.

What about reconstituted horse testicle in a condom aka hot dogs? Mmm, mmm. And that comes with onions which is one of your five a day.

Yes they were mentioned before on another thread and I made a special trip to a co op to buy some. How much salt and vinegar can you get on a crisp ??!!

I used to love a pepperami back in the day and a chicken and mushroom pot noodle

I used to like those Fray Bentos steak & kidney puddings, then one day about 20 years ago I read how many calories were in them, I haven't had one since.

Presume about 3 pints per packet just to keep your blood salt levels in equilibrium?

I remember them fondly from childhood. Delicious.

I think Fray Bentos was an invented umbrella supplier for Argentine meat products. Fair play to them if it was.

    I can live without crisps.

I guess anything with MSG in it - does that count as ultra processed?

    Bacon.

Did you know that Pringles are so shyte and processed that they don't qualify to be called "chips" in the US, which is never shy of processed food. Don't contain enough potato to qualify apparently....

Aldi do a currywurst kit that comes with 2 bread rolls, 2 bratwurst and a sachet of curry ketchup. That would be my current favourite though I do also like a Pukka balti chicken pie. Can't think why my doctor is concerned about my cholesterol!

Isn't MSG pretty much the definition of ultra processed ?

Unfortunately a lot of this comes down to simple economics.

Unhealthy food over here is simply far more affordable than fresh fruit/veggies, in part because of the ridiculous subsidies paid for the likes of corn and soy.

I don't understand that. How much is a fresh chicken and a bag of carrots in the US?

In Tesco you can get a (scrawny) chicken, 2kg of potatoes and a kg of carrots for about a fiver.

Throw that in a pot, add some stock (probably msg laden stock cubes) and baby you've got a stew going.

  33. Arakel

You wouldn't be able to touch that for five quid over here. The potatoes alone probably break it (this does vary by state though).

Very likely, but I don't have relevant personal experience with any other country's prices at the moment so can't say for sure.
