No chance this is happening, unless replacements are already done behind the scenes. That would literally leave us Gray as our only senior striker since Okaka is off as well. That would mean we would have to sign 2 strikers in less than 2 weeks now.
If it’s true, £15m for a player of his age, and on the wages he is, I think you have to take it. I can’t see us ever getting an offer like that again for him.
I can't help but feel all of the striker links over the last week or two are pretty indicative that we are in the market for one. I guess it is hard for us to bring in another while we have Deeney and Gray taking up absurd wages for their ability.
If anybody has seen War Dogs, I can imagine Gino and Scott receiving the bid from Cardiff was very similar to the part where the guy offers to repackage their ammo for $100k.
There was a fairly recent quote from him along the lines of "I've had a good run here and if the owners get a good offer and wish to sell then I'd accept that and shake their hands on the way out". Does someone remember the exact quote?
You'd have to take that - extra 15 million and wages to fund a new more proven striker or two. Mind you knowing us we'd just get a virtual unknown or over spend on someone!
Utterly pointless unless we have better players poised to sign on the dotted line. I'd prefer to keep TD than sell him and sign Shane Long for £22m or Pierro Cheapo from Serie B for £3m through desperation on deadline day.
Plus Richarlison money ofcourse.. Clearly we won't spend all of that money but a good amount should go towards the squad - or maybe medical team!
I think TD would perfectly fit warnocks long ball style. should we really be selling our most experienced striker to relegation rivals ?
I can't imagine the club without him. But it's still a good offer. If we don't sign a replacement and they stay up at our expense, however, we'd look a little silly...
Have to take that - 15m plus 5m wagesover next few years. If he is in first 11 we would likely go down in any case so take the cash
https://walsall.vitalfootball.co.uk/walsall-set-for-cash-windfall-from-deeney-move/ Bless poor old Walsall, every time a Deeney bid story crops up it's the same old optimistic "will we get our sell on fee?"...
Cheers Deeney for all the things you have done for this club, a true legend. But, I think your time at Watford is slowly stagnating and you are a shadow of your former self, both on the field and even off it. £15 million is good for all parties as I think he'd suit Cardiff's play style and in return, we have a nice budget to spend on a prolific striker - if the Pozzo's haven't taken it and run off. If this is true, we should absolutely take the money
No! Don’t sell. He’s back to his best and going to be great this season. Under no circumstances should we sell to them. But by all means string it out.
Given the market as it is, and I can’t actually quite believe I’m saying this, but I think given that most clubs will be looking for a striker and starting to get desperate, we should be asking/holding out for more than £15m. I’m also not convinced that Deeney would accept a move to Cardiff.
Not a bad time to design a new team? With 10 days to go until the window closes/season starts? I assume that isn’t quite what you mean?!
would always be sad to see him go, but for £15m when his never going to get back to being the influence he once was, you have to take it. We must have at least two others lined up, including a deadline day Italian with 2 caps against Algeria and Mongolia from 2014
It's the future Burnsy. We want to evolve the squad & that's not going to happen with TD. Must be accepted by all, eventually.
He still has a bloody lot to offer this league. If we aren't going to use him the right way then let him go somewhere else and prove it. Hopefully not to our detriment.
£15 million is nothing in this day and age. Rather keep a HG striker to play 20 games a season than sell him for £15 million bring in some dud from Serie B and have to lose another overseas player to fit the new striker in. £20 million or more, he's still Troy Deeney.
If he is to go, I'd rather it be to a Championship team, but I still wouldn't be too disappointed. He 'does a job', but he's just not Premier League level anymore, thanks for the memories and all, but it's time to go for me
