I watched the QPR game last night on TV. Tommy was on the bench and despite 3 subs being used he was not one of them.

With Wright-Phillips and Barton being new midfield additions I can not see Tommy getting much football - and that is before the January window when QPR are likley to be active again.

Would you take him back on loan or have we moved on and it would be a backward step? My gut reaction is that he would definitely do a good job but he is into his thirties and would hold down a place that one of our youngsters could develop in.

I would but we will need to ship someone on. We have enough strikers at the moment.

If Igloo doesn't come good, then he would be the ideal candidate if not, not to extend Wee man's contract.

Yes, I'd love him back here. He's class in this division, and proven.

I think we need to stop this fantasy. No way will Tommy be allowed to leave on loa. He may not have been used yesterday but we know better than most the cost of having too few attacking players in the PrL. He'll get plenty of games this season - I have no doubt about that.

1stly I was very impressed with QPR last night and if they perform as well week in week out they will do well. Pleased for Colin more than their fans who have become just a little arrogant (the ones I know).

As for Smithy, while I would love to see him back at the moment he is too much of an asset to the QPR squad which still lacks depth. January would be the time when he may be available.

HH is more of a possibility and would be a welcome asset.

Lee Cook, Rangers are willing to pay his wages if he becomes injured (again) on loan and I think he could be a real asset at our level. Some other will no doubt disagree but I know that at the present time all he wants to do is play football again.

I thin Rasiak offers a different option to Smithy. Of the two, I'd take Smithy.

Why not have him back if he's better than anything else we can find?

Would definitely have Smithy back. You know what you're getting with him - 100% for all 90 mins, and a quality Championship player.

Feel sorry for him being left on the bench at QPR. Just a few weeks back he bagged the winner at Everton for them, and suddenly, following a transfer deadline day spending spree, he looks like he might have been cast aside. Typical really.

On the face of it I agree that it may seem fanciful. However, consider some of these facts:

    - QPR has a squad size at least 3 or 4 players bigger than most other Prem teams. It needs to slim down.
    - Jason Puncheon got on ahead of Tommy last night. They are similar players and puts Tommy further down the pecking order.
    - QPR want their players match fit in the event they suffer injuries. Players that are only getting the odd run out is a problem. If QPR can loan players with a recall clause that is sensible planning.
    - We can guarantee first team football; this would not be the case from Prem clubs or West Ham, Brighton, Middlesbrough etc.
    - Tommy would not have to move to come to us and would still be close to his parent club.
    - QPR don't need money now so if we can only pay £4K per week this should not be an issue.

I do think that if Tommy goes out on loan (or is sold) it is more likely to be in January. If its a loan we have to be a strong contender, if its a sale we can not afford his wages. I also think it more likely that HH will go before Tommy - what about taking both!!!

Whilst Tommy is a great Championship player I think he's actually a yard or two short of pace for the Prem and I think Warnock has seen that.

It might not be that impossible!

Personally I think the club are gearing up for the sale of Sordell hence the top heaviness of strikers. In the Jan window I can see Starvin Marvin going for £3mil + add ons and T.Smith coming back for around the 800k mark. Just a thought......

Tommy Smith, is a class act better than any of our current players, he would improve our team, put numbers on the gate and help to win matches, if there is any chance of getting him back we should go for him.

HH could still do a job but not sure how long for, although again with him you know what you are getting and would be a useful loan addition

It is an insult to HH to suggest that Iwelumo is in the same league as him.

Unless we will be playing him on the wing, we don't need him.

Colin likes to collect strikers. He gets as many as he can in the squad just in case. I doubt very much if HH or Smithy will be going anywhere for a while.

This is the only real issue I see.
We have Yeates who, in my opinion, has done a good job so far this season, and I feel it would be a shame to cast him aside, even though it would be for Smith.

Didn't Smith score the winner in QPR's victory away to Everton a few weeks ago? Surely he isn't being dropped quite so quickly.

I only think the wing would be good as we don't have much depth there. He would be excellent competition for Yeates IMO.

Completely stupid to play him upfront. We're all set there.

So what you're saying is don't let a virtually brand new team have time to gel and get to know each other, but condemn them as not good enough during their brief Watford career just so it justifies bringing back an old player who let's face it, his best years are virtually behind him?

I say we stop looking back and look to the future.
