If The kid is True to form Cleverly will not walk straight back in unless Zinc is injured, because Zinc has earned his spot, it's a bit like the Bachmann / Foster situation.
Pushing to be fit for tomorrow, which could be important, I don't think Zinckernagel has been on top form over the last two games, I think we have missed his energy in disrupting the opposition
Fair point but there's not a lot between Bachmann and Foster, given that the average number of shots he's faced recently is very low. Bachmann has better distribution though, which is probably why Foster hasn't returned.
Think he should play against Brentford/Norwich as a pressing 10. Think Zink is better suited to Reading/Luton/Millwall.
We’ve been a bit flat these last 2 games, I hope he plays as IMO we’ve missed his energy (yes I know he has flaws but not so noticeable at this level)
He's a reminder of a bygone era, when players with limited football ability but who ran around lots was the best we could hope for in a player.
If Tom Cleverly is to be recalled tonight I would not be dropping Zinc to the bench as suggested by the Wobby, I would either give Sema or Pedro a rest. I would play Zinc wide left and either just drop Sema to the bench or move Sema central to lead the line and give Pedro a rest. In either case I would probably use whoever is dropped for the last 20 or so minutes.
He's a lot more than that but it's your opinion. Horses for courses as they say. Imo his desire is what we've lacked the past couple of games from midfield.
That would be rather a bold and unorthodox choice, given that it's a completely different position to his own and one he has never played in his career to date.
What???? I would probably go with Clevs in for Zinc. I like Zinc and think he would ok if we go up but he doesn't give us the energy Cleverley does. I wouldn't be against Zinc wide left though with Sema dropping out Whatever we do just please win, the nerves are killing me and I would like to enjoy the weekend!
I presume you mean Success to lead the line? In agreement with those who are calling for Clev in the midfield, take out Sema for Zinck, start with JP, but bring on Sucess after 70-75 mins to give JP a rest, as well as act as an outball to help us chase/control the game
Fantastic performance from clevs after being out since wycombe dont stop running unbelievable engine well done lad
One of the best performances of the season from TC on his return to the team. Some real bite to the tackle, wonderful measured and creative passing - he kept us on the front foot for most of the first half. He was my MOTM.
He's meh at many things, but at high energy high press, winning the ball and giving it he's one of the best.
Now this is a proper captain's interview. Humble, determined and affection for the club shines through. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/19253876.tom-cleverley-hopes-payback-watford-fans/
The WFC baby boom continues. This time Tom comes up with a brace. Many congratulations to the Cleverley family. Georgina Cleverley pregnant with twins (femalefirst.co.uk)
I'm a big fan of Tom and until recently I have thought it was a no brainer that we should retain him for the PL, however with his recent spate of injuries I am beginning to wonder if he might not be fit enough for the PL? Overall though I think he should probably be retained at least as a backup mainly from the bench for his experience alone and I sincerely hope that his fitness holds up for at least next season and hopefully beyond.
Erm, funny you should say that, because... https://www.footballinsider247.com/...everley-opens-talks-over-new-three-year-deal/ Only the 3 years though this time.
I think it was rumoured a few months ago that he was going to renegotiate and get an extra year for a slightly reduced salary. The last thing we need to do is sign ageing, injury prone players who aren't great (in the PL) to deals that will keep them at the club until they are a month shy of their 35th birthday.
Maybe the last one involved a gentleman's agreement about looking at the contract again if promotion was secured. He has shown that the club is at his heart and has the heart and passion needed. On another note does anyone know how many substitutes will be allowed next season?
Yep, and a good guy. There should always be a place in the 11 for him and Gomes, as long as they want one.
Ha! The bit they're wrong on is saying he's out of contract in 2022. He signed a 3 year deal before Xmas and so is contracted to 2023, by which time he'll be 33. And he'll be 34 by the time the 23/24 season kicks off. I just don't see the rush to tie him down.
Gomes has moved on to a higher purposes... unfortunately Be careful what you say, wouldn't want you struck by lightning or anything
Doesn't bother me one bit this news. Every squad has to have at least one old git in it and if in a few years ours is Tom Cleverley then we could do a lot worse. Great guy to have around for these younger players we seem to be targeting.
I guess everyone has forgotten that it was patently clear in the relegation season, and the season before that, that he is nowhere near good enough for the premier league. But bradford city fan tom cleverley loves watford apparently, so we can all forget about that fact.
