There was a line in the papers today saying whilst this was an awful embarrassment for Spurs it was no Manchester City 8 Watford 0 type game .

Spurs at least turned up for half an hour ..

Red Bull Salzburg showing up Liverpool's defence somewhat !

3-3 and could be ahead .

Bizarre for them to claim that.

We are a mid-to-lower end PL team that are in dreadful form and were away to the Champions.
Spurs are CL finalists, aiming to compete for the league title and were at home against Bayern who haven’t done overly well in Europe in recent years and were well beaten by Liverpool last year.

As chastening as our defeat was and I’m still angry about the manner of it, their loss was worse in the circumstances.

The gooner filth I met last night were in hysterics over this. Although, they did stop laughing when they started talking very cautiously about tonight's match with Liège...

Very sensible too. We know the quality of some of the players in that league. Former Man Utd targets, former Barcelona targets...

Another mistake by Lloris - probably be ok in a couple of weeks though !

Brighton going to get 3 points off Spurs - bet we don't even get a shot in against Gazzaniga next match.

Brighton dominating them by the sound of it.

I pointed out on Wednesday, just on the previous page, that Spurs seem to be going through a similar crisis of confidence and collapse in intensity to us at the moment, also having coincided with reaching a final.

Like us, it really doesn't take much for the opposition to get at their defence (though for Spurs it has typically been especially acute away from home). Brighton have been afforded way too much time and space on the ball. Opponents seem to, almost miraculously, discover their scoring touch against them. Brighton have already scored as many goals in one half vs Spurs as they had managed in their previous 6 PL games.

Spurs are club in crisis, we need to forget our own crisis and mental hang ups and go for the jugular. We’re everyone who is out of forms favourite team to play which needs to stop.

I’d say the similarities extend to their defence as well, and possibly the rest of the team. They haven’t upgraded their defence for years, by no means is it bad but it certainly isn’t getting better while those around are always upgrading.

In my more complete post on Wednesday which I was referencing, I did also say that...

    "an ageing, creaking defence"

Impressive that Man City picked up two yellow cards in the same move, doing the pro instructed professional fouls on a wolves break!

    Liverpool's title to lose ..

But they were 8 points clear last season.

Newcastle winning - Man U are awful .

The form of all teams this season has be very random. At least we support one of the two teams showing any consistency.

It doesn’t help us, but great to see a young local Newcastle lad score the winner on his debut. I would really love to see that again one day at Watford.

I see there is some speculation that Mourinho may look at the Spurs job as a route back to English football.
    Would love to see.
Can you imagine Mourinho trying to get money out of Levy to fund his usual £200m+ spending spree ?
    Hilarious prospect.

Duxbury was certainly right when he said "every manager has a lifecycle". Pep and Mou normally move on after 3 seasons or so as the players burn out or the methods stop working. Poch is not exempt to this either - Spurs have stopped their usual high press whilst continuing to try to play the same style of football, which only works with the press that they employ. There's only so much motivation you can give the players to run that much in training and in games before they get bored of doing the same thing week in and week out. Fergie used to change Utds playstyle every few seasons and used to change his closest backroom staff to bring in new ideas.

    The options are

    A) Poch changes playstyle (which seems unlikely since he's stuck with the same philosophy throughout his entire career)
    B) Poch refreshes the squad - Eriksen, Vertonghen + Alderweireld are out of contract in the summer. Selling Kane would give loads of money to refresh the squad (although this didn't quite go to plan when they sold Bale)
    C) Manager leaves and someone with a different playstyle comes in

Option C looks the least risky and cheapest..

I'd prefer that it was Folivi or Sonny-Blu rather than some Geordie getting an away win at the Vic.

A bit of light fun. A quirky picture depicting 18 unforgettable moments in the history of "The Greatest League in he World" (TM) (R).
Can you get them all do you think? Winner gets moog for a week, runner-up gets moog for a fortnight.
