Since I don't see one, I thought i'd start one as our adventure to being the first scalp for a lower league side begins tomorrow night at the Vic It's Coventry, a side who have somewhat fallen from grace but a decent outfit vying for Championship football again. Team news? No idea. Probably a mix of second string and first. That means Success, Prodl, Gomes, Kabs, Quina maybe? I will say this. If we thump them abd play well, that same side better line up at St Jame's Park. Wfc 2 Cov 1
Sounds like he might play Jaamaat. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...rd-use-coventry-city-game-confidence-builder/ As many Coventry fans as ours it seems .
Javi should play the duds who played against West Ham & tell them if they don’t win by at least five clear goals, they can all **** off!
Going to this. First one this season. Surprisingly looking forward to it. Hope he gives some youngsters a chance. No need for Gomes, Prodl, Zeegelaar, Okaka etc. Think we'll win.
They must have given them the whole end (bar the sides of the stand) if they have over 3,000 tickets Some of us might remember the 1980 Q-F league cup when we were in Div 2 and they were an established Div 1 side. Over 27,000 for the 2-2 draw here but in the replay GT brought Steve Sherwood back and we lost 5-0-not all Sherwoods fault but blimey it was a terrible night. I have just decided to go tomorrow as in this moment of crisis the team needs every bit of support it can get from the fans.
Yet again, I’ve been conned into buying a ticket and will no doubt be disappointed by our second string and bench players as they are out fought and out classed by lower league opposition. The only encounter between our sides which sticks in my mind was a League game on a blisteringly hot Saturday afternoon in August 2002. As I remember it Ray Lewington’s men put on a 5-goal masterclass of 5-3-2 and we pretty much dominated, but as Watford do, we still had the courtesy to concede two goals. Over the years I’ve come to the conclusion that this round represents some kind of tax dodge. I cant fathom how the scam works but it is quite obvious when attendance figures are announced as 16,548 and anybody who actually goes can clearly see that there is barely 8,160. I don’t want to see any resting of players Javi, they look like they’ve only just started pre-season and need to build confidence. It’s not about formations, it’s about a group of players playing with determination, effort and spirit. Gray needs a long run, Sarr and Welbeck need game time. Get them out there and create a team. Watford 1 Coventry 0
Who remembers when Eustace played for this lot? The pessimism round here smells from some distance. Going on about sacking the manager and being relegated while it's still August-with the gulf between the sides it shouldn't be a contest. The last game I remember was 0-0 at VR in 2012, we had a disallowed goal. The last good one was in 2005, Young scored a consolation screamer. No hard feelings chaps but cheer up, it could be a lot worse.
I remember Danny Webber being an absolute menace in that 5-2 victory. One of the finest individual performances I’ve seen in a Watford shirt. He terrorized them from start to finish and almost broke one of their defenders with a magical turn for his goal.
Oh yes. Probably in my top 3 Watford goals ever for the sheer WTF? moment of John Eustave going Lionel Messi on us.
If it’s not something like the following I will be very disappointed. Bachmann; Janmaat, Mariappa, Kabasele, Masina; Chalobah, Dele-Bashiru; Sarr, Quina, Peñaranda; Welbeck Dahlberg, Foulquier, Prodl, Capoue, Cleverley, Success, Okaka A few of those should be able to force their way in to Saturday’s team. Although I don’t actually remember ever seeing us play well in round 2 of the league cup.
First 2nd round game I have missed for a long time. I now have a 2 hour drive from work so not fighting the M25 for this game. How many times have we had to suffer extra time in these games only to still go out.
Do Coventry even have a ground anymore? Maybe I was dreaming but thought they played at a local park.
Equally WTF was how we turned a very comfortable 2-0 into a 2-2 draw. The ref got injured I think and his replacement gave the softest penalty. Went home wondering what on earth just happened.
John Eustace, one of many 'orns midfielders who the fans ended up being wrong about. See Mahon, Watson and Capoue for other examples.
Helguson overhead bycycle kick in 2000 was pretty cool. Nice way to end a really hard season. I remember singing "We'll be back as champions". Funny things was, until Sheff Wed beat us 3-1 at the Vic, it looked like it.
Yeah this isn’t going to end well. gray might score plus one of the midfield. But our defence will be shown up by a lower league club. Score draw and out on penalties if this isn’t a replay situation.
