I doubt Nadal could finish off 158 in 3 darts. I bet Luke Littler could fluke a backhand winner though.
Tennis is a difficult sport to play well. I was great at squash, hit a ball in any direction and you can get it back to the front wall, but simply returning a serve at tennis was impossible. However I doubt any tennis player would be able to win Wimbledon whilst p*ssed on 6 pints of lager.
Maybe to fluke a point, he’d never be in a position in the first place to fluke a winner of a game or set.
I did enjoy the argument on twitter after the Preston game. Goal 5. “Limbs” duely recording and posted. “Limbs!” Concurs poster 2 Hold on. What’s this. Poster 3 declares it “fake limbs” and all hell breaks lose!
Agreed. Nadal is never taking even a leg off ‘The Prince Of Style’ Rod Harrington or Dennis ‘The Menace’ Priestley.
One area of darts which is arguably more important than in other sports is the mental aspect as we saw in the final last night. Both players had periods where they dominated the other during spells of high confidence. But those periods ban disappear in the blink of an eye. I agree with those saying that tennis is one of the most difficult sports, but I would put in a vote for golf. Even the very best players almost never dominate consecutive tournaments like they can in tennis.
I think I have to put in a vote for baseball batting. I can't stand baseball but, if hitting the ball a third of the times you bat is considered to be an excellent performance, it must be very difficult to do.
It’s actually getting a base hit, rather than just hitting the ball, i.e. successfully getting to first base. But you’re right, doing it once every three ‘at bats’ on average means a batter is having a great season. This batting average is the main metric measuring a batter’s performance.
I wouldn't be so sure! Just a question of practice with darts,no other incoming distractions, other than lager or kebabs as seems to be the case with today's darts professionals.
Be more media hype and expectations on him now . https://www.skysports.com/amp/darts...s-debut-after-run-to-world-championship-final
The press have clearly had something much stronger than water. Luke the Heavier is now being asked for his opinion on Man U transfer options. Next week he'll have a bash at the NHS and the education system.
So Luke, what meant the most to you, the £500k, the knowledge that you've reached the peak of the sport you love, the support and adulation of your friends and family, the positive media attention, or the congratulations of a tiny little scrote who has no ******* clue who you really are?
I was there. There were muted celebrations, then someone mentioned they wanted to get it all onto Tick Tock so we all counted down from 3 and went wild to generate 'limbs.' Fair play.
Wade Boggs hit two doubles after drinking 73 beers on a cross country flight to LA. May he rest in peace.
Comparing tennis and darts or baseball is like comparing apples and pears as they say . Tennis and other sports are skilled based , someone is trying to make it difficult to play your game , darts/golf etc is pure technique , no one is lobbing grenades in from the side when you take your throw. That said the hours of practice and sacrifice is equal .
quite late. I know this darts world championship brought loads of new fans but the thing is is can the PDC keep them and I don't think they can (of course a few but very few compared to what was watch the WC) I'd say people will watch the first opening weeks of the Premier league of darts and eventually get bored the fact thats the only darts same format, same players and usually same people winning. The PDC need to find a way to get the weekend player championships on air to people to experience something new and different.
The Players Championship are streamed on their own platforms, but events are all on midweeks now, a controversial move as there will be a lot of lower ranked semi-pros out there who simply can't afford to play the tour (but nice for the players who don't need to work so they get more weekends free). Think the job for the PDC now will be to show more events on the major free to air channels, or perhaps on their own YouTube channel, they have a lot of ITV events, but they are relatively hidden on ITV3/4
Need to see more of these guys winning his and hers watches, heated hostess trollies, luxurious dresing gowns, canteens of cutlery, DIY tool sets, speedboats and caravans to really get people engaged.
Yeah I know there shown on there own channels but I couldn't see a new darts fan paying however much just to watch the darts. Like with sky you get multiple different sports whereas with PDC TV not half as much people will pay for that service. I agree with you on they need to get it shown on free broadcasters but not on ITV because that's only shown in England and is unavailable in most if not all the countries outside the UK.
Having the Lakeside on the BBC was such a huge thing for darts, even in the 90s after the split when the popularity of the game waned, it meant the Dutch could watch as Barney burst onto the scene, until it eventually grew to the level that they got their own channels involved (on the flipside, the BBC losing the rights to England Test cricket matches meant that the sport lost a lot of the popularity that it had over there). Not sure what other countries have BBC though outside Ireland and the Netherlands though
Yeah even Lakeside now on youtube brings in loads of viewers for darts that was quite below par compared to the PDC.
A few years ago they did a pro celebrity darts comp for charity that was quite entertaining. Bullseye is a good format that they could try and re-boot again but they need to find the right pressenter. Personally I'd like to see indoor league done again.
Young Luke making headlines again . https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/darts/68035347 . https://twitter.com/ITVSport/status/1748393170075779094?
Even the most British institution that is the game of darts is not safe from sportswashing! He's off the mark now, a scary prospect for everyone else!
Wait till they launch the Saudi Masters and double the size of the bullseye and make it worth 501 points.
