Been a lot of talk that he wants to move from Palace due to not playing, i would welcome him at Watford. He has alot of pace, great free kick ability and can grab a few goals.

No no no no no no.

I'm halfway through an article about how he's one of the biggest con merchants going in the PL. How he keeps getting 80k a week contracts is beyond me.

He (allegedly) didn't want to come here last season because he believed we would get relegated. On that basis, he'll probably join Hull.

    Some stats for you:

Benteke has had 50 shots in the PL this season. Townsend has played 347 minutes less and has had 40 shots - 36 of those coming from outside of the box, 8 on target, 1 goal. One trick pony who can't even do that one trick very well.

In his entire premier league career, he averages either an assist or a goal every 4.7 games - terrible for a winger of supposed international class - Nathan Dyer averages the same for perspective. McClean 1 ever 5 games. Hoilett averages 1 every 5.16 games - I admit goals/assists aren't the be all and end off of being a winger, but beating a man is a key part and he's not even overly fantastic at that either

My palace friend doesn't rate him at all.

His stats are that he goal to [outside of the box] shot ratio is about 0.2% or something ridiculous like that.

His constant desire to shoot from outside the box (0.2% remember) causes the breakdown of other, sometimes better opportunities meaning that the teams overall chances per game drops quite dramatically.

When he was available in the summer I was one that was eager to get him in. For the reasons above I'd rather not.

How does the assist/goal per game ratio compare with Amrabat?

Amrabat is goal/assist ratio of one every 4.3 games when played as a winger/striker - however that's only 13 games so not a great sample size.

In 1911 minutes of football for Watford, Amrabat has scored 0 and assisted 3

In Townsends last 1900 minutes of football in the Premiership he has scored 3 and assisted 3

Position makes a big difference though, Amrabat has 0 goals + 3 assists in 1120 minutes at winger/forward - obviously less effective at wing-back so would be unfair to include those minutes.

Just been speaking to a Palace supporting mate over lunch who tells me he's been a load of sh*te and his attitude stinks. He said there's a rumour they're tring to loan him back to Newcastle.

Amrabat is less effective at wing back than either Janmat (who has 1 goal and 1 assist after 600 minutes at wing back compared to Amrabat's 0 in that position), or Holebas. Holebas has 2 goals and three assists at wing back after 1833 minutes. Perhaps if Palace sell or loan out Townsend they may make a move for Amrabat.

True, but Amrabat wasn't bought as a wing-back nor has comprehensive experience playing there so it's pointless comparing them.

I would ask Mr IBB how Dros has played but he is in a catatonic state due to Palace's plight and is incapable of a coherent word of English, not unlike Walt.

Amrabat s strength lies in transitioning play . It only takes a hopeful cross field pass from Britos , capoue etc that he has no right in winning and he inevitably does. And all of a sudden we ve switched defence into attack .His crosses always look dangerous too
    .

However his stats are really very very poor as Cassettis Beard highlighted .

In the 13 games he played for Malaga at the start of last season he scored no goals and created 1 asssist.

There has to be a recurring patern there, and I'm wondering that perhaps the reason we ve signed 2 wide players in transfer window is because Mazzarri has made a similar observation .

i agree he was bought as a forward/winger - but three assists is not great, so we do need to strengthen in that area, that's why i think Ashley Young would be a good acquisition - much better than Townsend.

I agree, if Cassetti's beard had highlights, it would be very poor........something like this maybe?

He's a far busier player than the stats suggest. But that's about it. We do desperately need him back though as he's a good outlet when he's not given defensive responsibility.

Stats schmatz. Ambrabat's play, despite a desperately under-performing front line, also leads to goals, with runs or balls into the box that lead directly to assists.

For all the questions asked about his output, he is, in my honest opinion, and when considered in the team he is playing within, one of the most effective wingers in the country. I will be surprised if there is not a lot of interest in him this Summer, and some big bids to fend off.
