But in hindsight, who would rather have Mahon alongside Eustace than Williamson or O'Toole? I probably would.
Yeah let's have a totally defensive look about our midfield! You can't play two holding players together!? I'd much rather have Williamson in midfield thanks.
Good point actually mate. I'm guessing him speaking out about the captaincy did him no favours either.
I was surprised at him leaving before the play-offs but i'm not upset at all and I see this as an early start at the re-building. If Sadler gets injured it may prove to be a mistake, but if not we've saved on the wages. I think some of the players have got a bit too comfortable - he is/was one of them so hopefully some of the others will realise aidy is not always 'the nice guy' and this will fire them up a bit. It's been obvious since QPR away if not earlier that he was on the way out, and to be honest when he has played he's hardly looked interested (ok hardly going to be motivated by the fans reaction i accept) but it seems obvious he's had another offer and was very unsettled (maybe causing dressing room probs?)
If he wanted to play in the playoffs that badly he would of signed a new deal. If his contract is up there is no point keeping him. The deadwood clearing has only just started. Poom , Jackson , Doyley , Francis along with the other failed young players will also be gone soon.
Warehouse, I hear he's going to be on the nightshift as the Watford Junction security staff. Have fun!
We all knew he was off, but the timing is most certainly puzzling. Why release him just before two massive playoff games?
Why pay his wages longer than needed? He clearly hasn't got the club at heart, so why use him in the playoffs? He's off so why would he care if we went up or not?
The vast majority of you hate his guts and have been calling for him to be sold the entire season. In fact for three seasons. Now he has been released, suddenly Aidy is a useless w@nker? You lot are ridiculous sometimes. He was a very nice guy, and was very popular with the lads - but I am glad he is gone. How many of you would have been whining if he actually HAD played in the Play Offs? He was a rubbish LB, end of story. He probably didn't want to stay and try and get a team promoted who didn't want him and whose fans hate him, which is fair enough.
I think people are more annoyed at Boothroyd with the timing of the decision rather than the actual decision itself. In any case, I agree - the guy was terrible and embaressing to watch.
This is the best news for a while and a really good decision. Aidy is gathering a small concentrated squad for the play-offs. Why have a load of hangers-on? I can't believe that anyone would really think that if we needed a replacement for Sadler, Demerit, Bromby, or even Doyley or Mariappa wouldn't do a better job than JS. More importantly we are spared his weak-@rsed free kicks and his obvious current attitude. I have rarely witnessed a WFC player who, over a large number of games, has contributed less. Ineffective in attack, or defence JS is the left-back with the leastest. Either out of position or getting skinned he's the left-back most unlikely to put a cocky winger into row A. JS's problem is he got left behind. His play-off contemporaries have moved on (other than a few who are more realistic about their worth). Unfortunately he doesn't have Marlon, Ashley, or Hameur's talents. Hence the griping. His career is about to come to a full-stop. Sure another club will come in for him and the usual wheelbarrow full of cash will get banked, but he'll make no impact and eventually his flashy boots will be on display in the 2nd div or conference. Rumoured to be a nice fella, he's done well by the club and should go gracefully, but I bet we'll be in for the usual sobbing.
strange timing by the club/Aidy. It didn't work out for him and the past season has shown this but wish him all the best. Lets see if he gets this prem move now. Come on bookie Stewart's next team, QPHAHAHA for me
Timing baffles me I must admit, must be due to him having quite an influence in the dressing room and Boothroyd deeming that to be a negative influence. By the way, for those who suggest Parkes, I have seen him play 3 times for Barnet as well as knowing one of the head stewards there, he has played right back in all but one game as they tried him on the left and he was too right footed to be deemed good enough there for league football.
One of the best defenders in recent years in the top division was Denni Irwin at left back for Man Utd and he was terribly right footed. It does work for some, Jordan Parkes, it does not as he has neither the football ability or the physical presence. Zambrotta for Italy has made a career of this too but they are on another level. McAnuff swapped a lot with Tom Soares at Palace playing on the right and left in games, somthing I would have liked Aidey to try this season more with Smith (who won player of the season for Derby on the left). We did do it initially 3 years ago with McNamee and Young.
I hardly think this was boothroyds choice of timing, stewart probably had an arguement, which is why he was dropped, he didnt want to stay, and aidy didnt reallly have a choice
Can anyone, hand on heart, say that Stewart played worse at left wing and put in less effort than McAnuff has recently?
