[RUMOUR] Stefano Okaka

Discussion in 'The Transfer List' started by Nnnn, Jul 7, 2015.

  1. Irrelevant, for the reason I have highlighted

Okaka is (probably) the Deeney back up, Vydra was competing against Iggy

Iggy back up is Success & Sinclair

If you don't think they are good enough that's a perfectly valid view and worthy of a thread, but it's not got anything to do with Okaka

Of course it's relevant for the reasons I highlighted ! Vydra would have been Ighalo back up now we just have a couple of inexperienced wingers to back up the prime goalscorer who plays off the big man upfront ......but have back up for the big man. We've swapped back ups ! Ideally we need proper back up for both unless Walt is happy to play with 1 or 3 upfront if Ighalo is injured or loses form.

  3. It really isn't. The Pozzos look upon players as assets for the group. If they deem him as worth whatever they want to pay, and have a potential role for him within the clubs, then they will buy. It does not preclude buying another striker or any other player.

They made money on Vydra. That is done and dusted, and has no relevance to future transactions. The money doesn't go into the piggy-bank labelled 'pacy strikers'.

You are choosing to misread what I've written. Nowhere have I said there are discrete sums of money for each area of the squad !! I've simply made the point that we have have spent on Okaka roughly what we got in for Vydra. I'd have preferred to have kept MV as back up to Ighalo rather than bought this guy or had both as we needed back up for both strikers. You argue that the Vydra sale is irrelevant but start your post by stating that the Boufal bid IS somehow relevant !!

  6. Really?

You are going to put WD Sport on a pedestal as the font of all Watford knowledge?

According ot that article we are still only on the 'verge of signing him, I guess that clears a lot of misunderstanding up them :dismay:

You might as well have posted a picture of a cow t*** buzzing with flies in a meadow on a bright summer day

The club don't tend to pull out the 'Welcome to Watford' clip art thing for those who end up moving straight on. I'll be surprised if he's loaned out during this window.

I didn't say this was definitive...but when the tag line is Okaka lined up as Vydra replacement then he's got that from somewhere and considering Vydra was sold and Okaka signed a day later, you can draw your own conclusions.

No point in attacking me, I didn't write it.

He likes having the squad number 99 (true fact, not made up), which by a strange coincidence is Troy's favorite ice cream (I possibly made that up)

  10. Well why don't you draw your own conclusions then instead of taking what Afleck posts as gospel?

  11. hornetgags

My conclusions are he's a replacement striker for Vydra, as Success and Sinclair are wingers by trade.

One thing I will say in Okaka's defence, looking at the goals he scored, if AMrabat puts in some of those delicious crosses and he's playing then I think he could bag a few goals.

They did with Doucoure and Penaranda last season. Agree that he'll probably be stay here though.

Also, it appears that Anderlecht signed a forward called Hamdi Harbaoui from Udinese yesterday. He'd only signed for Udinese in May this year and has got the same agent as Okaka and Kums - profitable day for him yesterday!

Are the Pozzos just hoping if they sign a load of **** Belgians, one will just turn out to be a Lukaku or a Hazard?

We've only ever seen him in the championship and not really seen him at all for a while where as the coaching staff see him a lot more

  19. Vydra is not particularly strong, fast, great finisher, complete garbage as a target man and complete garbage with his head. He's a 2nd striker / #10

Okaka is big, strong, powerful, not all that quick, not as good a finisher, good target man, great leaper, great with his head. He's a target man / #9

If Okaka is a replacement for Vydra the scouting team have well and truly screwed this transfer up, they have bought a completely different player

I don't think they have and draw a different conclusion

True. But didn't they straight up that they were immediately heading out/back to Granada?

I accept including Okaka in my post on the other thread was a bit misleading to what I was actually saying. When we comment on whether or not we believe a player is good enough, thats what this forum is for. My post was more about the increasing amount of times that people question a players attitude when Watford have shown over the years that we are a great place for players to turn around those questionable characters. There are very few footballers around that don't have a high opinion of themselves and the higher up the footballing ladder we go, the more we will have these players being signed or at the very least linked with us. If we turn down every player with a questionable attitude, sadly in the modern game, we won't go as high as others up that ladder unless we take those risks.

4th choice back up striker who has 4 caps for Italy. Don't see what the fuss is all about. 7.5 mill seems quite a lot but who cares , it's not our money to spend.

Would be nice to have a decent header of the ball in the team seeng as we have eventually got some players that can cross the ball.

To be fair we have been putting some good balls in the box so a striker that can head the ball will be a decent option to have.

What I have learned from this board is that we will be relegated and Vydra and Forestieri will fire their clubs to the PL promised land... and shortly thereafter the Champions League.

Rewatched Anderlechts home game against Spurs from last years EL and Okaka was actually a real handful (scored the winner too), and he's far better on the ball than people seem to be making out. Think he'll pleasantly surprise a few, including myself.

No idea why people are so angry with this signing.

Think he will be more than capable of being a back up, look forward to seeing him play

I agree. We cannot expect to have the highest quality players come here as back up. It might be an inspired acquisition and a player who is eager to impress when he gets the chance. We should give the club and the player our support and the benefit of doubt. It won't be the first or last time we will take a punt or, as the club might put it, a calculated gamble.
