I am not the greatest at spelling and many on here are even worse than me. Therefore would it be possible to have a "Spell Checker" on the site? I don't know if I dreamt this, but did we not have one before? Anyway Admin if it is at all possible I would think that it would be welcomed by many on here. Thank You!!!
There is such a device available but it would add to the processing power that we use on the server. I am very keen to only add what we can all benefit from, so in this case I have to say "nein". Plus the dodgy spelling adds to the mix!
That thanks system definatley overlooked then also!? Pretty sure we'd all benefit from that nice piece of software!
You use your brain and explore the options. The dictionary won't fall open at the page you want unless the word is rude or a body part.
Do you really think so? Over on the MSE forums my username has something like 56 thank you's in 29 posts, but to me it's utterly meaningless. I just don't see the point. Please feel free to persaude me otherwise.
At the end of the day, if thats your opinion I don't think theres much swaying I can do! I just think it's a nice little touch. Limits can be put on it so people ain't 'thanking' every post (limits for every hour or day). Up to you though sir!
You've got to admit, if the options for discussion are ploughing through a dictionary or an automated spellcheck, you've got a tough sell on your hands.
I'd suggest instead of draining the server's speed that people install a plugin. I have one in firefox which works for all internet text boxes I start to type into. Not tried this but might be worth a go for you ie users: http://www.iespell.com/ Firefox spell checkers can be found from the usual plugins and extensions route.
If you either can't spell or can't type, why not write your piece in Word, spellcheck it there and then paste it in?
Not being a computer geek I had no idea it was such a big deal to add one, and I think I do say if it is not to much bother, or words to that effect in my original post My spelling is not that bad, but I do use a dictionary at times when I can be bothered and am not sure of a word, I just thought it might be useful, but I am not overly concerned one way or the other. Over to you Admin
At the end of the day this is a forum about Watford fc and not a forum on spelling, so if a word or two are mispelt so what, as long as we can work out what it is and it is not text speak I can't see the problem or a need for a dictornary (sp).
It's a forum where people talk about Watford FC in the English language, yet our mother tongue is butchered in every other post it seems. A forum on spelling is a good idea though - Admin?
And the irony is, I made a basic spelling mistake in the above post. Edited now. Where's the smiley for blushing?
Personally speaking (or should that be writing?) if there is a word i want to use but i'm not sure of the spelling.. I have a Google window open and cut and paste it into there. The spell checker is pretty good and always picks up on things like the correct spelling of peoples names etc.
