Strongly disagree Paddy. Respect should be the starting point. Then it can be lost. Manners do matter. You'll be going all Maggie Thatcher on me next and saying there's no such thing as society. I really think you should hibernate when the temperature drops.
So we all respect Saddam Hussain cause he went to war with the help of US and Gb weapons on Iran - who we do not respect. The war ends in Iran and we lose respect because he invades Kuwait. We then lose respect for Bin Laden who goes to Afghanistan to hide and we lose respect for afghans because Bin Laden is being sheltered there. We then kill loads of innocent Afghans trying to capure the disrespected Bin Laden person who because he is not captured is still disrespected but as he apparently has some connection to Saddam Hussain who we no longer respect, we send tens of thousands of troops ( who with respect, were not sanctioned by the UN) to toplle the disrespected Saddam Hussain. Who then gets captured, trialed unfairly and hung on TV and everyone starts sympathising with the fact that the poor barsteward had bee treated badly by his own people. Respect man Manners don't matter - it's rude not to Burp in Switzerland after you have eaten a meal. Ah - society - a brainwashed community told to act in a similar way and abide by the rules and regulatons of a democratically appointed spokesperson with a massive ego. Or society ruled by an oppressor with a massive ego and where the people are brainwashed to abide by the rules and regulations of the said oppressor. Thank uck for the REBELS!
