Mistake by Ponty last night (see from 00:31) in a 0-1 defeat to Charlton.

I know we have the Woosh Detector already but think there might be room for a Dud Detector on here these days too.

Too many dodgy moments at League One level, this one's a dud.

Looking forward to two duds fighting it out for number one next season in Okoye and Dahlberg.

....how his prospects have changed since this post 4 years ago just after we signed him.....

That's a bit harsh on the lad he made two saves and somehow the Charlton scorer got a third bite at the cherry, where were the Gillingham defenders, how can be accused of making a mistake when he made two blocks before Charlton finally got the ball past him o_O

I know your standards for goalkeeping are quite low but the first shot should have been gathered quite comfortably, therefore preventing the eventual goal.

The attempted recovery (the second bit) was fine but he should have held on to the first or shovelled it away from danger.

Okoye has been superb the last few weeks. Why do you think he’s a dud? He had a bad patch of form but has been outstanding of late. Here is his manager claiming he should be considered one of the best young GKs in Europe:https://soccernet.ng/2022/03/okoye-ranked-one-of-europes-best-young-goalkeepers.html

Both keepers are young. How many u23 keepers can you point to starting at their level or higher? In the PL/Championship, I think it’s only Meslier, Bursik and Travers (and even the latter two have been in and out of their sides a fair bit) who are born ‘99 or later and playing as consistently as Okoye. Dahlberg has stalled for sure but he did have a match-winning performance at the weekend.

I refer you to my post in the Okoye thread.

    I'm sure you'll agree it's a very convincing argument.

Haha. From the bits I’ve seen of him for Sparta Rotterdam he’s very all action. Not great in the air yet but pretty aggressive at coming off his line to sweep and a great shot stopper. Reminds me a bit of Ederson; he’s got the crazy GK gene (whereas Bachmann just looks like your fairly athletic mate who has volunteered to go in net)

You can almost hear the Charlton players saying "just shoot from anywhere the goalie's shyt!"

You're genuinely calling the first one a 'save'? Blimey.

Should have easily held the first shot. That was a poor mistake.

The Dud Detector finally did its stuff. Pontus has departed to IFK Gothenburg after 4 and a half years. Shame but the loan spells I
in League 1 and 2 didn't lie sadly.

Thank goodness, best for him and us - he simply was never going to make it in British football.
