Kicking this off at a bad time, as I'm missing tonight's and I didn't see the final last night, but felt it was in keeping with some of my other favourite threads in here.

Topics for discussion: Konnie's performance as Richard's replacement?

Boring hobbies that Xander has to make sound fascinating. No. 1 'baking.'

People who say 'this isn't my strongest subject' for ever single subject.

The relative performance of extremely fat people. I theorise that they are significantly worse on average than people who aren't obese.

I saw just the title and thought "who starts a thread that's pointless?"

They've replaced Richard? I didn't even know. I gave up on Pointless months ago. Alexander Armstrong's manner was getting on my nerves. Mrs Ilkley Orn still enjoys it, but I much prefer Richard's House of Games, which we regularly watch together (when she's not away looking after grandchildren).

I agree wholeheartedly about the 'strongest subject' comment. Why not just answer the question? That'll tell us what how strong a subject it is for you.

I'm not sold. Nothing against Konnie but Richard is a very tough act to follow.

    Richard is impossible to follow.

House of Games and Only Connect reign supreme.

'Oh, I'm only 28 so this is before my time.'

She's now been replaced by that laddish guy from the Last Leg Alex Brooker. Seems they are doing a rotation thing with guest co-hosts for 10 episodes each.

I got 3 pointless answers for the final yesterday.

    George Wendt
    Shelley Long
    Paul Rudd

(Name an actor who appeared in the final episode of: cheers, friends, the big bang theory)

Right, I’ll bite - weren’t two of those in Cheers?

I’m surprised they were both pointless.

Yeah they've had Sally Lindsey, that frog faced actor who sometimes hosts Have I Got News For You and one or two others

Yeah, sorry, I thought that it was one from each.

Still, Wendt and Long do surprise me. Makes you wonder whether anyone remembered anyone other than Danson, Harrelson and Grammer.

It's a common mistake people make, often giving a crap answer for one category, when they had 2 or more good ones for another. The celebs especially make this mistake.

Ratzenberger was also pointless. I think it was everyone apart from Alley, Danson, Grammar and Harelson.

Yes, just added that to my post.

Couldn't remember Cliff's 'real' surname. Damn.

You've got to remember how dense the pointless survey panel are. If they show a picture of Elizabeth II and ask them to ID her, she would still only score about 85%.

Contestant this week delighted in telling Xander she likes 'mud running.' Ooh, you absolute nutter.

Still, less boring than 'baking,' I suppose.

I'm usually terrible at the cast naming. It's usually a film and it's usually only people you've never heard of who don't score.

  31. Lauren Laverne was my personal favourite stand in.

    Stephen Mangan was decent enough.

Not a fan of Alex Brooker as don't really like The Last Leg. Always favour a bit of Graham Norton instead on a Friday night.

House of games is definitely my preferred show of the two nowadays.

For the final round, it annoys me that people who aren't really strong at any of the categories, go for a common one where plenty of people have genuine interest. How do you expect to be in the top 1% of the population at a category where many people are better than you?

The success rate for pointless answers in film and music must be significantly smaller than those for random things like 'flying' or 'colourful objects' where no one feels like an expert. If you can get a category that actually allows you to give something numerous and/or use local knowledge like tube stations or capitals, you're laughing.

Today's final question was all about Jamaica:

Name a Jamaican sprinter who's run 100m in under 10 sec.

    Songs by Shaggy

Parishes and parish capitals of Jamaica

I guessed St Johns might be a parish (it wasn't) and couldn't remember Osafa Powell and Yohan Blake's names, but they scored points anyway.

  34. I think the same thing. If you're not strong in any of the options, going for something that will be popular you can guarantee you'll only be able to remember the same few that the 100 people also knew plus a couple of the 100 Probably a bit more. Better to go for something random and obscure and hope to get lucky on something you may randomly know.
