Boothroyd eyes Pistone By Kevin Affleck ALESSANDRO PISTONE, the former Everton and Newcastle defender, is on trial at Vicarage Road. Aidy Boothroyd is seeking cover at left-back for Jordan Stewart following the foot injury to Jordan Parkes and is running the rule over the 32-year-old at the club's London Colney training ground this week. Pistone is familiar to the English game having spent a combined ten seasons with Newcastle and Everton, but is now a free agent after being released by the Toffees in the summer. http://www.enfieldindependent.co.uk...artid=1681958&FROMPAPER=watfordobserver.co.uk
Wouldn't be a bad signing til the end of the season, with an option for an extra year if he's good enough. He has Prem experience but he's no Powell (ie too old).
Sign him up I say. He could probably teach the youngsters a few things. As long as he keeps out of the medical room, he could be a good signing IMO
Have to agree. Decent competetion for Jordan Stewart and may give Parkes the opportunity to get some first team football out on loan.
He had a cruciate ligament injury and never got back into the reckoning at Everton. He was on trial at Middlesbrough the start of this month but Southgate decided against offering him a contract.
Awesome defender at this level...as Cudey says if he can stay fit he'll be a big asset here! Can play right or left back.
Agreed - but his ability to stay fit worries me. Also he won't come to play second fiddle so it would mean either Lloyd or Stewart would have to move over. Had this been before the season started I'd have said Doyley but since he's been fantastic most matches - Stewart most vacate left back I feel.
Got to be better than sitting at home watching Tricia:]] Explanation for non UK residents: http://www.trishatv.com/
Released by Everton, turned down by Middlesbrough after a trial. A top Championship side is the best he can hope for especially at the age of 32. Pay as you play is unlikely but he could be given a small contract to the end of the season with decent appearance bonuses. Option for us to renew for a furter season.
he would be a good player for us and if he stays fit i would put him in above Stewart purely for his experience i always rated him until he got injured
definitely a good shout we need left back cover and this not only provides that but competition at left back which we need frankly to push stewart even further
Wouldn't go that far mate, he's had a good past, but after people get injured they're different. Example, look at Michael Bridges, he was on the verge, or he may have even been in the England team at one point, then he got injured and slowly dropped down the league. Same goes with Ricketts.
I know that mate, what i'm saying though is when you had such a long period out like he did, he may not come back to play as well as he use to. Especially at his age.
I think he would be more than happy to sign if we offer him a deal, after all he is not getting any younger and he is out of work. As to him not being happy to sign as cover, I think he will be quite happy to sign and fight for his place, after all he has been dropped by Everton and Middlesbro obviously thought he is not the player he was. I also don't think he is in a position to make excessive demands, and we could probably get him on a reasonable contract. All in all, if he is anywhere near as good as he has been in the past, he should be able to good job at our level, and IMHO would be a good signing to add to our squad.
Aidy is having on trial for a couple of weeks to get his fitness up as he is only 70% fit and will decide then
