"And, true to his word, Boothroyd has tabled a new bumper four-year contract that Henderson is ready to sign. " Well all he does is bump into people.
What is actually says is "Sky Sports understands that..." which is media spin for "the tea boy just brought the Watford Observer to my desk".
When it said "New Deal for Hendo" I assumed this meant that Doris was going to find gainful employment via the government's "New Deal" programme for jobseekers.
If this is true and Hendo actually signs this new contract that's terrific news! My faith in Aidy is starting to replenish Hendo is the key to versatility in our forward line. We've create a whooping 48 corners in our first five matches and I can think of no better man to have in the box on these corners than Hendo. Now let's bring in a set piece specialist before the deadline and I'll be very optimistic for the rest of the season.
If Hendo signs a new deal despite us signing Ellington i think we will all be very relieved. Although when Hendo plays the others tend to hoof the ball up the pitch his physical style does add something and he is the type of player suited to this league. With those three we have proven goal-scorers with different styles and then we have Priskin and Hoskins who have both shown that there is some quality there but just need to perform on a regular basis
As most may have noted, I'm not Hendo's biggest fan on these boards, but he definitely has a job to do at the club. My opinion of the current batch of strikers still has Hendo rated at 3rd choice, with Priskin and Hoskins still having work to do in order to establish themselves. I'd not like to see Doris starting every week, but as a sub or a back-up he will be an important player this term.
Its a shame that we've had to offer him a bumper new deal cos Aidy ****ed up with his man management, wonder how much that has cost us in increased wages.
i reckon we should play him away, and its tough scrappy games, and go mainly with king and ellintgon at home
A week ago he was desperate to leave and basically went on a strike and threw a tantrum. Now he is on the verge of signing a 4 year deal. How quickly things can change...
This is great news (if correct), just like signing a new proven striker that you know can perform with Marlon. Unlike you though, Hendo would be my first name on the team sheet, and I would ideally play Marlon and Ellington as a potent strikeforce. With that goal potential you could give the defence time off.:]]
Now thats not true is it. A strike? Tantrum? Do me a favour. At what point did he say, i'm never playing for watford again? He didnt, he handed in a transfer request, but we all know that he did not walk away in a sulk like Kenwyn Jones at Southampton. He has been treated badly, and had every right to act in the way he did. Now I hope he has resolved his differences with Aidy and will now play a big part in our season.
Good point. To be honest i'd rather have taken the reported fee of £1.2M-£1.7M and said goodbye Hendo than a bumped up pay packet and him staying.
At one point he told Adie that he would only play in a training game if Adie started him up front against Leicster. I would call that a tantrum.
Betty has gotten away with this episode it appears! Will be interesting to see if we go up and what he does with Henderson in the summer...
Hendo is necessary to the team. Which has been shown by the utter uselessness of the other strikers of actually winning the ball.
doesnt seem hes signed the new deal yet if the window shuts and hes still here then great but i wont hold my breath until i know for sure one way or the other
He may not have sulked and thrown a tantrum, but who on here really belives that he had an injury that kept him out of the Leicester game? As for an extended deal, he is not Premiership class, so if/when we go up again, we are stuck with him. And before anyone tells me he scored one on Saturday, my son tells me he also missed at least 3 others.
I think he was injured, Malky (not Aidy) said on Tues he was injured, the bid was recieved and rejected Wed or thurs as was the transfer request He is useful backup in the Prem, but if we do go up and get someone better we'd probably be able to sell him anyway...if we dont get promoted he will be useful next season Yes he could have scored 3, but at least he was in the right place. He worked very hard and deserves credit for his performance and attitude
Personally I can only think of one reason for offering him a 4 year deal and thats when we get promoted in May we can sell him with 3 years left to run so another club can't nick him for next to nothing. Coz he sure as hell won't be a scrap of use again in the Premiership next season and the prospect of another 4 years of hoof ball is just too dire to even contemplate, reckon even Mahon will have had enough by then. I know Doris scored on Saturday, but honestly guys he should have had at least 3 goals, his strike ratio for chances is awful and he has a role this season as an alternative to football, but not going forward next season.
