Ellington. All that talk & for 1.7mill it is Ellington (Which i think is a bad price from what i have heard on here,but you did sign him for a big fee though did'nt you?) Can you tell me what Ellington is like please (Is he pacey,cocky,good goals when he scorers & how many has he scored for you this season?) Please bear in mind this is only a rumour or a target so if it does'nt go through dont have a shout at me:]]
I think the guy is genuine - but I also think his source is bull. He may have heard a rumour they were going to make an offer of 1.7 mio but surely we won't take a 1,5 mio loss on a player after 6 months.
Like i said it is what my source has told me weather it is bull or not i dont know. & a few people on hear i heard saying they dont like him unless they were saying it but they dont mean it i dont know.
Ellington was bought as cover for Marlon King. Their playing styles are pretty similar, although Ellington is a bit more of a bruiser pushing his way into space, where King is more likely to manouever into space. Ellington is also a bit faster than King, I think. But they are generally pretty much the same and so are unlikely to play that well together since they would clash rather than complement each other. I cannot see Ellington being sold. The fact that we paid 3M for a backup gives you an idea of how much we value King. Henderson may not be up to the Premiership although I personally think he simply hit a patch of bad form that coincided with the first 6 months of last season... but he is the only big centre forward that we have, is most definitely one of the best strikers in the Championship and so is currently vital to our success. Again, I cannot see him being sold until the summer, if then. Priskin, Kabba, Hoskins and Ashikodi are all good players, but with different skills that, at least for now, are not really suited to the Watford playing style. As such, if a good enough offer came in, I suspect any of those would be sold with our best wishes. I doubt that Kabba is currently worth 1.7M even with inflated prices (not because he is a bad player, he isn't... he has just not found a team that complements his playing style). Hoskins and Ashikodi are not yet established even at Championship level and so are not really worth 1.7M to a team to buy them and so Priskin is the only Watford striker who is in the right ball park. He is not playing regularly for us and has not impressed particularly when he has had the chance (probably no fault of his... again, his skills don't really match the way we play) but he has a decent record as an International and so most managers would appreciate that he could be great in the right team. The only way you would get Ellington for 1.7M is if you are including one of your players and I'm not really sure who you have that we would want.
Simply not true. We wouldn't pay £3m for a player, and sell him for half of that 4 months later. Aidy is in love with ellington and has tried to get him for the last 2 years.
Can i just say on a QPR forum it has said that watford are going to buy Lee Cook for 1.4mill i think he said because of the sale of your other left winger to fulham, i hope not because us Rangers boys want him back! I can ensure you i am making nothing up because i am not the person i thought i would have a look what watford's fans point of view's on what i have been told our.
Im not agreeing with this guy , but the way I see it at the moment we are losing in excess of 3 million , due to the fact he is being used as a bench warmer. So far how many of Aidys buys from January 2007 have brought us dividends on the pitch ? The best player so far was Johnson , who was too good and got recalled . If only boro had been middle of the league.
I also seriously think this could well be genuine. He hasnt had a look in which suprises me and I think I read somewhere that Boothroyd had said we would see the back of a fairly new player in January? Amazed how he can spend so much on a clearly very talented player but then not give him a chance?! If it is true it further demonstrates Boothroyd's less than impressive record in the transfer market. Also who has the purse strings and sanctioned the loss of £1.5 million on a single player within 3 months??

If Boothroyd sold Ellington for 1.7m he should be sacked. end of. No business can justify making a loss of over 1.3m (plus wages) for no reason at all. The transfer market is still strong, and in the unlikely event that he did want to sell Ellington, he could easily recover his initial outlay. People simply don't write off that sort of money willy nilly.
Is he f**k! If he is then why doesn't he give the bloke a chance to prove what he can do!? Hendo has been wan* for the past few games now, but yet he still can't get in the team!! He doesn't even bring him off the bench as first replacement After watching King and Ellington start against Saints earlier this season (and cause them no end of problems first 60 minutes of the game) I was looking forward to seeing more of the same in the future...have they started a game together since?!
Harry Redknapp once said that if you realise you have made a mistake with buying a player, get rid asap. I would agree with that. You could apply it to many more players than Ellington at the moment.
Ellingtons value is going down every week. If he sits on the bench and plays 10 minutes out of 90 and is not scoring or setting the pace then he has little value.
Same here, the movement and clever running tore holes in the saints defence. Unfortunately, that game came when King was well out of form and if i remember correctly, a number of times fluffed through balls etc to Ellington. Had King been in form i've no doubt we'd have broken the net a few times in those opening 60 minutes.
i doubt the Board could justify such a massive loss in value after such a short amount of time. Even if Aidy did want to let him go it would still have to be rationalized at Board level and I dont think that would go down well!
Is it all in the mind? There is a trend here - Ellington did not get a run in the first team at WBA, transferred to us to improve his career, and can`t get games for us either. There was the whole issue about Ramadan and he is obviously not fit enough to push Aidy into selecting him. It makes you wonder if the guy has a character flaw - because the manager is quoted as saying on the training pitch his skills are sublime.
