Oh yes. I remember that. It was a replay as well. The result came through on the ship’s radio. I got so annoyed I jumped into a life boat and rowed all the way back to Southampton. Can’t believe I got away with it, but no one from the White Star Line ever found out.
I don't understand the vitriol (not just from you) for Foster. I've now watched the highlights, having seen the game live on Saturday and apart from the penalty he's not in any way at fault for the other goals. So you want him not just dropped, but banished from the club? Presumably therefore for the crime of the after match interview? I've now seen that too and don't understand the problem. As someone else suggested it could have been described as a rueful smile, but either way I prefer interviewees like him and Deeney who haven't been media trained to within an inch of their life. Do you really believe the monotone majority? (I don't know why, but Steven Gerrard comes to mind when I write that). Would you have thought him genuine if he was almost in tears declaring his embarrassment? I think because of the perception about Foster's approach to the game, he would be damned either way.
Banished is hyperbole on my part but he’s been poor for about 10 games now. Age has caught up with him. Obviously Gomes is not an option and should not be near the squad so I’d give one of the younger keepers a chance. I do think he showed a massive lack of self awareness with the interview though. It wasn’t a bog standard 0-4 defeat. The team was disgraceful.
I can't decide whether you are an out and out WUM or whether you are genuinely that lacking in self awareness. Pot, meet kettle....
Had that been disallowed, I think we'd have come back to win 3-2. Pawson's mistakes have cost us 5 points this season. FACT.
Might have missed it but have the club said anything about refunding the poor saps that travelled up to Manchester? I'm sure there will be a lot of debate about whether people are right to demand/expect refunds but I think it is a very poor show if the players haven't been prepared to put their hands in their pockets after such an abysmal showing totally lacking in effort.
No, they made up for it with the stunning and epic win over Swansea in midweek. Also, Spurs tickets sold out within hours so the away following have clearly forgiven them. COYH!
They’re waiting to see how much money Aguero’s shirt raises at auction before they commit to affording it.
They did. They released a statement which says: "Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha....are you serious? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha surely they knew what they were letting themselves in for?" They've also announced all those who went are eligible to buy a limited edition £50 commemorative foam hand with 8-0 written on it in marker pen. And which definitely wasn't left over from the Wembley stock.
Can people please stop commenting in this thread so it - and the scoreline - can sink into oblivion and I can try to forget it happened.
Of course not. If it hadn't been for Pawson we would have won 3-2 and the travelling fans would have had to have a whip-round for the players
