I don't buy into it. Man city are better than this lit and we at least compete with them .Same as arsenal, spurs, Chelsea and manu. Only v Liverpool do we pull out trousers down and regularly get shafted. I don't get it. Different managers. Same results v Liverpool.
I just don't think the players really believe they can win there. Liverpool have such a hex over this squad in recent seasons at Anfield we're beaten before we go there.
I presume Deeney would have been marking Van Dijk hence the latter scoring 2 goals after he went off.
Shocking performance from every single player except Doucoure who I actually thought played quite well. Masina is an awful defender, thank god Holebas is back next game
Perhaps QSF made a deal with the devil for the 3-0 win, the condition of said deal being that we get spanked in every game against them henceforth. Klopp outfoxed Gracia tonight. He knew that we'd play narrow, so told his strikers (Salah and Origi) to play as wide as possible, hugging the touchline before running inwards. Thing is, if we had played wide to compensate they probably would have gone straight through us anyway, the form they were in.
Genuinely think the move was sold to Masina as him being the new first choice LB and his nose is thoroughly out-of-joint and he’s chucking it in. No one can claim themselves as a defender and be as bad as he’s been for us.
Embarrassing. Shouldn't be happening against anyone in this league. A goal or two maybe but that takes the piss.
Why did we just stand off them and allow the crosses to come in? It wasn't that they were working an opening for a cross, we were just sticking narrow and leaving them all the space in the world down the flanks. So frustrating.
I feel proud of the fans who went and even more who stayed till the end. True fans. The less said about the performance the better. Most of it was forgettable, and they are just so many levels above us right now. I expected us to compete and not get taken to the cleaners. Frankly 5-0 is rather generous, they had lots of chances and you cannot play at total (if you can call it that) defensive line like we did and expect to play counter football. We badly missed Holebas tonight, Masina was poor, Cathcart was O.K overall, Foster had a tough night but with a back four like we have no one can blame him. That second goal was a shocker. It's out the way now. We have to regroup and perform against Leicester now. This is a heavy loss but nobody goes to Anfield and wins anymore. I was disappointed with the effort from the players more than anything else, they didn't seem to want to try. Liverpool ooze class thats true but you have to get in and play against it as best you can. I hated Gracia's late subs AGAIN when we needed fresh legs earlier on. It's too late bringing them on when the game is done. Safe journey back to all travelling fans and let's all hope for a more positive display and overall attitude when the foxes come to the Vic Sunday Lunchtime. It's my Birthday that day and I would love a nice present from them. Thanks to a great and entertaining shout box tonight, Shout outs to @Burnsy , @Squibba, @NathWFC , and others who made it a bit less depressing. I'm not going to say "We Go Again.." Darn it, just did. Oh, and I hate Klopp.
Ok Foster - no chance with the goals - horribly let down by everyone. The defence horribly exposed by the midfield. Hughes and Perreyra can feck off if they're not going to put up any resistance to opposing players. Perreyra is a mouse, show any aggression against him and he disappears - absolutely no physicality to him so opponents just breeze past him. Hughes is lightweight on the ball, he's easier to swat away than a fly. Left the fullbacks completely exposed, so Cathcart and Mapps have to come across to help out and are out of position, Mane makes the runs in the box, neither Capoue or Doucs cover Mane. The midfield defensively tonight was pathetic. Deloo, caught in possession so many times. felt for Deeney as he was feeding off scraps. What showed tonight was Gray should have started as his running off the shouder of their defender started causing them problems. Get Perreyra and Hughes down to Nando's to bulk up and transplant a fecking a spine into them, absolute bottlers as Robertson and Terrence Trent Darby had the freedom of the flanks.
Disappointing to loose so heavily, especially after huddersfield doing us a favour yesterday. Liverpool played well but lets be honest, those were soft goals we conceded from our point of view. For me this 'hex' is all about how hard they work to press the ball as a team, where as we seem to want to take that extra touch all the time and have some players who dont show the same work rate. Also Salah is a poor mans Anya.
Before we all get carried away and start calling it spineless or embarrassing, they are one of the two best teams in the country by a long way, they have the best keeper in the league, the best centre back in the league, two exceptional full backs, two excellent midfielders in Fabinho and Winjaldum, and of course Salah and Mane up front. That is a bloody good side and yes we shouldn't be losing 5-0 but we've had a brilliant 2019 and have lots still to play for so lets not get too down on them on the back of losing one game. And yes, we go again
Hey there is some good news... Capoue and Doucoure have been found ! apparently we left them at Stafford M6 services. In other good news the kit man doesn't have to worry about getting the sweat out of Pereyras shirt. Even better news, in his quest to become a hide and seek world record holder, Mariappa only has to stay invisible for the next 12 hours.
I thought we were pretty good second half. however, I did pop out to the kitchen and got caught up watching Cohen testify so thankfully missed VanDicks 2 goals.
Can’t be bothered to go over everything. 3 small points/thoughts... 1.) Still struggling to see what the gameplan was. That was just a continuation of the second 45 against Spurs. I can easily accept as a long-standing Watford fan that the top teams will beat us the vast majority of the time. But we have to make it harder. The tactics were wrong (non-existent) and that’s down to Gracia. 2.) Every single outfield players defensive deficiency was on display tonight. Not just the back 4...all of them to a man. Not one player helped another out. Liverpool exploited that. 3.) I’m increasingly of the mind that Pereyra can go in the summer. He’s a luxury that we can increasingly ill-afford. Never puts a shift in and just sprinkles the odd worldly goal in. It’s not enough. And Gracia panders to it. How on earth he stayed on for 84 minutes tonight. This was always going to be a fairly hellish run of games...it will be even longer if we roll over like that in the away games. I think the best we can hope for by the end of March is 3 points against Leicester and a cup win. And a goal-difference that isn’t totally destroyed. Any more than that and I’ll be ecstatic.
Pereyra bangs in a couple, everyone's back to licking his anus, don't sell under any circumstances etc.
Every time I've seen Masina he's looked slow, slow, slow. I don't really know what the answer is for someone like him when he plays a Salah. Get tight and they'll spin in behind you, drop off and they'll burn past you, give them an early kick and go in the book. Only think to do is hope that team mates can stop the ball getting out there and you being left one on one, I guess.
Not too disheartened. They are a top team and they needed a good performance tonight which they delivered. That’s the 9th time (out of 14 games) that they have scored 3 or more goals at home in the league this season. Disappointing to ship so many?...yes. But the home games against Leicester, Fulham, Southampton, West Ham and Wolves are the games that will define our season (league wise), not the away games. On current form there is no reason why we can’t get another 15 points this season which will put us right in the mixer for 7th spot.
