This is an e-mail just sent to me, not heard any of this in the news just wondering if any of you have. Don't know if you have heard about this but Ken Livingstone is planning to use tax payer's money to build an enormous mosque costing an estimated ?100M in the docklands. What do you think about it? Wouldn't it be better to spend the money on a new hospital or improved transport facilities? The plan is for the mosque to be so big that people flying in from all over the world for the 2012 Olympics will it see it as the biggest landmark in London, bigger than St Pauls, Westminster Abbey or Wembley Stadium. Take a second to cast your vote in The Evening Standard on-line poll to determine public opinion about whether a mega mosque should be built for the Olympics. The vote so far is 57% in favour. It looks like the Muslim community is casting its vote in droves and, as usual, the Christians are burying their heads in the sand. After voting, forward this to as many people as you can. When you see other peoples opinions Personally I feel that as a Christian I'm being dicriminated against in a Christian country! Even being white now means we are at the bottom of the pecking order for jobs such as health care, policeing, ETC... Why can't we go back to the way things were 5-10 years ago?
I received the same email from someone at work the other day. Looks like the proposal to build this mosque has been around for quite some time but I can't find any information to say whether planning permission has been granted yet. There are some interesting articles on the web about Tablighi Jamaat the Muslim sect that wants the mosque.
Religion regardless of type should be separate from the government. ie there should not be any government funding for religious schools, places of worship etc. etc. Whilst I am not against these establishments, they should be privately funded.
Reading further in the story it is unclear if this is to be publicly funded or not, more this is to do with the consideration for planning permission.
I'm sure some public funding will find it's way towards this project if planning permission is granted. c+p from http://www.metamute.org/en/The-London-Markaz Currently the London Muslim Centre in Whitechapel, opened in June 2004, holds the title for the UK's grandest mosque compound. As I earlier described it, "the six-storey building can hold 10,000 worshippers and includes a gym, a library, crèche and classrooms." But what is of greater interest is that "center members raised about £4 million (of the total £10 million), with the bulk of funding coming from taxpayers via such public agencies as the European Development Fund, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, and the London Development Agency." One can only wonder how much the European, British, and London taxpayer will put out for the Markaz.
I have extremely strong feelings about racial stuff. No offence to anyone, but this is the most stupid idea i heard. There are more important things in Britain to sort out! Gun crime for example. Sort the country out first. Improve the transport system. There loads of things to do! Sort out the homeless in this country etc. How is this even helping sort our country out? Will this even produce any taxable income?
and cudey who brings the gun crime to england ??? makes me feel sick- sooner people stand up for whats right the better
religious schools, my school is catholic, and get good reports. by privately funded how much do you mean?
Tell me this. What Muslim country would currently allow a Christian Church to be built? Answer not f'cking one.        Red ken is a grade a cnuut of the highest order.
all of it?! how is a church expected to pay for the computers? sports facilities? text books? as a faith school we have to raise 3 million to build a new building. religious schoools arent praying all day : the only difference is we have to do RE at gcse, and have mass about 3 times a year on ash wednesday etc.
You've got to hand it to the Evening Standard; they know how to reel people in. From the same stable as The Daily Mail; you can still use the headline generator.
Fair play. Your old man has come here and adapted to the way of life. The thing i hate is the people who come here and want to change the way England is. We need more people like your old man who are proud to be English, and support us (well Footballl anyway) and live the English life. I'm sure it'll be the same if we went to say Saudi Arabia! (sorry if this offends people)
so people are opposed to a mosque being built in london because enough people want it and its privately funded? its not hurting anyone so whats the problem? if its that its going to be big which is the problem, why not build a bigger church or something.
I completely agree. all i would say is that i'm also against faith schools of any kind. kids should figure this kind of stuff out on their own without any kind of 'indoctrination'
f**king disgrace, if i said all i thought on this i would be banned so won't, too sum it up, religion = bullsh!t, lousy emmigration system = ruined country
By being funded by the governent like all schools should be, but not by being a secular school which has restricted access to people of other or no faith.. I feel that religion is a personal thing which should be separated from government funded education.
